Here is something to consider the next time your faith in the President begins to waver. From a DailyDish reader.
Don’t forget the President is still following the script from Doris Kearns-Goodwin’s A Team of Rivals, along with all his other readings on Lincoln. President Lincoln calmly, deliberately, and with a lot of mistakes and few successes for several years led us to victory in the Civil War. Oftentimes he was at odds with his own party, at least the “Radical Republican” wing. Lincoln, and much of the North, even believed he would lose the election for a second term until Sherman took Atlanta. That’s the model Obama is following with regard to the Republican insurgency, slow, steady, smart, and ultimately, successful (we still hope).

Mario, This isn’t the Civil War! Doris’ book is exceptional but it is only a recounting of history, not a recommendation that a President in the 21st Century should pattern a modern day presidency on it! The nation has an entirely different take on morals and ethics and we graduate too many kids who can’t read from high school. We have a different way of assimilating or not assimilating immigrants within our country and our technologies and our economy are based on totally different areas of commerce. Lincoln never had to consider globalization nor did he ever have to think about global warming and eco destruction! It’s a whole other world and if Obama thinks he should base a modern day presidency on a book about the days of Lincoln….hang on for a wild ride!
