On Beauty Queens and Same-Sex Marriage

carrieprejean

This whole affair is hokey and both sides share the blame.  If Miss California, Carrie Prejean, had left her statement at the Miss USA pageant as is, that would of been fine.  She is entitled to her views on same-sex marriage and she answered the question asked of her in an honest manner.  No one could fault her with that.

But Miss Prejean went further.  She publicly endorsed the National Organization for Marriage and set herself up as a poster child for the anti-gay movement .  As she is learning, there are consequences to such actions.  In addition, she was in violation of the contract she signed with the The Miss California USA pageant.

From AP:

The detailed document prohibits the titular Miss California from making personal appearances, giving interviews or making commercials without permission from pageant officials. In the last 10 days, Prejean has made televised appearances at her San Diego church and on behalf of the National Organization for Marriage, a group opposed to same-sex marriage.”

Now there are semi-nude pics of Carrie taken a few years back surfacing all over the net.  What nonsense.  She’s a model…who cares?  Well, apparently, the pageant officials care.  The contract she signed, specifically asked whether she had ever been photographed in a nude or partially nude manner.  That was a no-no and another violation of her contract.

I don’t think this whole affair helps either side.   The right is using Prejean as a martyr while the left comes off as mean and petty.

Prediction:  Prejean gets stripped of her title and eventually gets her own show on Fox News.

“….set herself up as a poster child for the anti-gay movement.”

So, is that how you guys frame the debate? If you do not approve of “Same Sex Marriage” you are “Anti-Gay”?

BTW….the left IS mean and petty. Spiteful. Vindictive. Hypocritical. Fickle.

  2. CelticPrincess says:

As one who has repeatedly defended Michael Savage, you perhaps should be wary about calling anyone mean, petty spiteful or vindictive.

  3. bandit says:

I feel no empathy for the beauty queen. She made a decision to profit off the pageant publicity. When one takes a hard stand on any issue of national importance, there will be consequences. It’s the nature of the beast so spare us the whining.

  4. liberalsRs....d says:

Again, I don’t defend Savage. I just don’t jump on the band wagon of condemnation.

But that’s how you guys operate. Since I don’t ridicule, hate and condemn someone as you guys do, then I am “defending” them. Because I don’t support Same Sex Marriage, I’m homophobic or “Anti-Gay”. See how you guys operate?

Note: Piperni is the one that said the Left is mean and petty. I just agreed with him and elaborated.

  5. mario says:

You are free to quote me, just try be honest about it. Piperni did not say that the left is mean and petty. He wrote that the left comes off as mean and petty in this instance.

You should be aware that distortion only weakens your position. And btw, someone who calls himself ‘liberalsRstupid’ should not be writing “I don’t ridicule, hate and condemn…”

It sort of makes you sound s….d.

  6. mimi says:

“So, is that how you guys frame the debate? If you do not approve of “Same Sex Marriage” you are “Anti-Gay”?”

    Yes, Libby. You are.

My prediction is that Miss “Jugs for Jesus” will have a change of heart. It might be awhile, but she will.

  7. CelticPrincess says:

Miss “Jugs for Jesus”. Funny! Good one!

  8. liberalsRs....d says:

“Piperni did not say that the left is mean and petty. He wrote that the left comes off as mean and petty in this instance.”

I won’t debate semantics with you. But I’m not sure I see a lot of difference.

That’s my opinion. Liberal Thought in general is “stupid”. (Perhaps naive would have been better.) I don’t hate you. I actually kinda like some of you. And I don’t condemn you. I don’t want to silence you. I don’t want to see you persecuted.

I want you to be able to continue as you are so that in time, you will be a victim of your own excesses.

And I distorted nothing. Lying kinda makes you, just…well….a l..r.

  9. liberalsRs....d says:

My my, Mimi. Such hate speech.

Do I understand you correctly? You feel that if one is opposed to “Same Sex Marriage” they are “Anti-Gay”?

If so, that seems pretty narrow minded for such an intellectually superior group of people.

I won’t debate you on YOUR understanding of MY thoughts. Think what you want. If it somehow makes you feel better to think my opposition to Same Sex Marriage establishes me as Homophobic or Anti-Gay, feel free.

  10. mimi says:

“Do I understand you correctly? You feel that if one is opposed to “Same Sex Marriage” they are “Anti-Gay”?”

Yes, Libby. I think that anyone who would deny the same rights, benefits and recognition to gays would be anti-gay.

“I won’t debate you on YOUR understanding of MY thoughts.”

I was responding to your statement:

“If you do not approve of “Same Sex Marriage” you are “Anti-Gay”?”

Did not mean you personally. My apologies.

  11. liberalsRs....d says:

“Yes, Libby. I think that anyone who would deny the same rights, benefits and recognition to gays would be anti-gay.”

I find that an intellectually bankrupt statement. Just another way of labeling thought and incorrectly framing an argument.

  12. Mary Nelson says:

Hey Libby, you do realize that you use the same tactics in your arguements that you accuse “us” of using, don’t you? You are the epitome of hypocritical.

Ok, go ahead. Make some left field comment about how I am judgemental.

  13. liberalsRs....d says:

    Nice photos, Mary.

  14. Michael Webb says:

“….set herself up as a poster child for the anti-gay movement.”

So, is that how you guys frame the debate? If you do not approve of “Same Sex Marriage” you are “Anti-Gay”?

BTW….the left IS mean and petty. Spiteful. Vindictive. Hypocritical. Fickle

Your screen name is liberalsRstupid. You might not want to accuse anyone else of being mean, or petty, given that fact.

  15. liberalsRs....d says:

No….my user name is “liberalsRs….d”. I changed it out of respect for Mimi.

I find liberal thought not necessarily the brightest and just not very logical. And this is a perfect example. I simply do not approve of Same Sex Marriage. I’m older. I’m more traditional. I believe some things don’t necessarily NEED to change and I don’t necessarily feel ALL change is good.

YOU guys are the ones that assume I and others that feel the same way are “Anti-Gay” and “Homophobic”. You just don’t seem to understand that someone can think differently than you without trying to insult them or discredit everything about their thoughts and how they arrived at them.

Don’t get caught up in a name. I wanted to get everyone’s attention. Support your thoughts and opinions.
