Attendance was way beyond expectations (they reserved for only around 60k) people. I can’t say with certainty how many people were there, but the crowd was bigger and much friendlier than at the Beck rally.
They are guesstimating about 200K to 250K but of course that’s without the aerial photos and photos around the trees. This of course, does not include the satellite rallies in major cities.
The Borowitz Report said Fox claimed about 7 were there. My guess is 10 billion.
It had to be a lot more than that.. . In the end it doesn’t matter. People were attending these rallies around the country and even around the world. If you dont believe me check rallymao.com Whats even sadder is no one knew about that and the media went radio silent.
This is the real America that the GOP/Teawing nuts don’t want you to know about.
After a night’s sleep I’m thinking with more clarity so my best guess is about 20 billion people attended. I’m low balling of course so as to not appear too cocky.
YOU’RE WRONG WINTER- Foxnews.com, typically referred to as the GOP/Teaing nuts website, covered this yesterday. Perhaps you should check your facts before you speak.
Maria Allison- I’m assuming you were not at the Glenn Beck rally on 8/28. I couldn’t believe the plethora of nice people surrounded by me that day.
Anonymous: Your assumption is incorrect. I attended both rallies. My earlier comment was based on what I saw and experienced first hand. At the Beck rally I saw an older woman wearing a “restoring honor” t-shirt, shove a boy wearing a boy scout uniform. This occurred some distance away from the Lincoln Memorial, but still at the National Mall. While shoving the boy, the woman yelled “you should be ashamed of yourself”. The reason: he was standing with a group of people wearing pro-Obama t-shirts. The Beck fans I observed, generally looked suspiciously at anyone who was identifiable as someone who wasn’t “one of them.” based on such offensive things as wearing an MLK button. Many of the Beck fans, I encountered were _not_ friendly to anyone they considered “not one of them.” But I’ll grant that they were “nice” to ideological soul mates.
In contrast, the random conservative or conservative group (based on the content on their signs) moved freely within the Restoring Sanity crowd. No hostile looks, no shoving. In fact, people smiled at each other, said hello to complete strangers and smiled.
Some pro Obama people even managed to have civilized discussions with people who had different political viewpoints at the “Restoring Sanity” rally.
Sorry to burst your bubble.
Annonymous, I was referring to real live coverage of the event. Fox news did not cover the event nor did NBC or any of the other major networks. This was briefly on CNN and was only covered in full by the Comedy and CSPAN networks. The fact that people around the world met in these rallies should have meant major network coverage. This is the real soul of the country…. and it proved itself when we voted for Obama and it will prove itself again when he gets voted into office a 2nd time.
These are people who are peaceful thinking REAL AMERICAN citizens who want real progress, fairness FOR ALL, and no more plutocracy in America. They aren’t falling for the BS and fear tactics anymore .. if they were ever. We aren’t scared of the brown people, or muslims, black people, the homeless, the unemployed, or being a real democratic society instead of the plutocracy we have been for over a 100 years.
Glenn Beck and friends are sure to spin this in some twisted way to mean something else entirely no matter what. It’s what they have always done.
I suggest you make sure to attend the next rally to restore sanity event with an open heart/mind. We invite you to bring your friends as well.
I went! The entire event was wonderful. People had signs, none angry or misspelled. The crowd was huge, and very nice.
The message: TONE IT DOWN, we can talk about this.

Just people riding the train there (turnstile count) puts the number above 200K. There were a lot of people coming on foot from hotels and apartments.
I suspect that the Daily Show people are pretty keen to not post numbers lest this thing get trivialized into being about beating Beck’s rally.
