Here is a great piece by Jon Stewart of The Daily Show where he takes a slice out of the pompousness of CNBC.

He made me laugh, but this situation is very serious.
The television show is there to keep you up to date, people watching this show must not take their words as god given truth. Mario, you say pompous, maybe the word is desperate. This market is disastrous, I believe no one knows what they are doing.

As far as the homeowners go, I do not agree with Jon. The banks ask you to borrow money..people should have been smart, SAY NO , there is no sure way of becoming a millionaire quickly. No, the homeowners that are in a mess today is by their own design. Not all, there are some who have worked hard all their life and are now paying for the greed of America! That is the tragedy.

This news reporting business is problematic.

Everybody puts in their two cents these days. News is no longer just news, everything is analysed, probed, questioned, dissected and then regurgitated into a story. And there are so many news venues these days … television, cable, satellite, radio, internet, print, etc. Some news programs lean one way, some another, some have panels of “experts” that lean every which way, project different views and influence.

We, the people, all of whom are in different places in our lives, are sorting though it all trying to find out what the hell happened and where the hell are we headed! Trying to take decisions for ourselves is ever so hampered.

Hindsight is 20/20 so Stewart’s exposé is funny, scary actually. But what is this telling us? Where have moral values in news reporting gone? We hear lies and propaganda, truths and half-truths … what happened to honesty, integrity, and responsible reporting?

Are we to take everything we hear with a grain of salt? WHERE IS THE TRUTH? Is the answer more whistle blowers.

what happened to honesty, integrity, and responsible reporting?

I believe there has always been a degree of untruth in journalism be it 30 years ago or today. It is incumbent upon all of us to not rely upon a single source but to instead seek information from many places. Over time it becomes easier to decipher the bull from the truth but this can only happen if one has a sound basis in the topic at hand.

While there is manipulation of information from both of our political parties, I do believe conservatives have championed the art of lying. Over the last 20 years, conservative radio has become a hotbed of ugly and hateful commentary. We need look no further than the distortions and lies of Mr. Limbaugh.
