Coming Home

cominghome

I came across the above picture at Masson’s Blog and wanted to share it here.  It’s a remarkably moving image which reminds us of a side of war which is so often forgotten – families separated for months on end and the ensuing pain of being away from loved ones.

While the photo is titled ‘Coming Home’, it could just as easily be labeled “Going Away”.   Would there be any difference in the look of that mother except that one would be a look of joy while the other would be one of pain?

Thank you for sharing such a moving photo!

Life takes us away from our children at times and sometimes we do not have any choice but to wait it out! Absolutely no way of reaching them! Absolutely no way of hugging them! No way of telling if they are alive or not! No way of telling if they are safe! No way of telling if they are in a hospital or not well!

At times like these we have to turn within and know that the universal goodness of this world is engulfing your child’s soul and body and absolutely nothing or anyone can adversely touch them! And peace returns… for how long?

Nice. My brother just returned from Iraq a couple of weeks ago, having missed a large chunk of his baby daughter’s life. The pictures from his homecoming remind me of this picture.

Thanks for posting that picture, Mario.

Regardless of Political Stripe, I would hope images such as this put a face on the sacrifice many are making so that people like us can sit here safely and debate the issues and propriety of what they do.
