Blagojevich is Impeached

I had to write something about Rod Blagojevich’s impeachment.  Actually, I need to thank the former Illinois Governor for keeping me amused for the last number of weeks and more important, for giving the professional comedians out there such a rich source of material to draw from.

I think I can best sum up Blagojevich’s performance by offering you a segment of MSNBC’s Countdown with Keith Olbermann’s show from last night.  Watch for the second half of this clip where Olbermann plays the highlights from this week’s late night television shows portrayal of Blagojevich.  It’s hilarious, especially the Mother Teresa, Ghandi and Stephen Colbert segments.

Am I to assume you have no problem with seeing him removed when there are no Criminal Charges against him and no proof that he has done anything wrong?

He may be guilty as heck, but I think they rushed to judgment. They should have at LEAST waited for him to be charged. How will it appear now if charges are never filed?

I don’t support him. But I don’t think he should have been railroaded BEFORE any charges were made or proven.

  2. mario says:

All I’m saying is that I don’t really care about Blogojevich. The guy is obviously nuts but he amused me with his antics of the last three weeks.

What is interesting is how it’s impossible to ever be on the right side of an issue with you. If I wrote what you did in your comment above about Blagojevich, you would respond with how I was trying to defend a Democrat and that liberalism is a mental disorder…blah, blah, blah.

If I wrote that the sun rises in the East, you’d no doubt come back with something about my liberal arrogance in assuming such a thing…

  3. bigdaddy says:

And I thought you were convinced you had me figured out?? I guess if you can’t blame my position on FOXX News or Conservative Talk, you just kinda come up empty? What I DO find as arrogant is that you don’t think I’m capable of independent thought!

For the most part, I agree with you about Blogojevich. The only thing I take issue with is them impeaching him AHEAD of any official charge.

Aside from that, if you are ever on the RIGHT side of anything, I would be surprised! (smile) (that’s a smart a..ed one!)

  4. mario says:

Sorry, but it’s not too difficult to “figure” you out. You’re quite transparent.

  5. bigdaddy says:

I’m sorry. I forgot you were a card carrying member of the Intellectual Elite. Please forgive me for having a thought that doesn’t fit into your nice little package.

I’m surprised being the stark raving liberal you are, that you aren’t equally concerned about an Official being impeached and ran out of office with no charges being lodged against him. Guess it’s easier just to cast dispersion on others.

  6. mario says:

What?!!? No charges against Blagojevich? Where have you been for the last month? There is a 76 page federal complaint against Blagojevich on bribery and conviction charges. You can read them for yourself here.

Also, the impeachment process in the US does not require that the legislative branch of government wait for a criminal case to impeach an elected official. The House and Senate hear the evidence and tries the individual on the evidence presented. The House votes to impeach and a second vote in the Senate is required to remove them from office.

This is exactly what Illinois did in the Blagojevich case. They followed the law and process and did what they had to do. I have no idea what your problem is unless you’re suggesting a change of the impeachment laws.

After Blogojevich was impeached by the state House, he should of stepped down before he was thrown out of office by the Senate.

Sorry buddy, but you’re way off on this one.

  7. bigdaddy says:

He has been “charged”. I don’t know what it’s like up there in Laa-Laa land, but in America, there is a presumption of innocence until guilt is proven.

He claims innocence. Personally, I don’t buy it. But he is considered innocent until proven guilty. But the Illinois legislature has usurped due process and found him “Guilty” by consensus and without trial.

Yes sir. I have a problem with that and you should too. If not, let me make it easy for you. Pretend Blago was someone you liked. The Illinois Legislature was a Republican Majority. And they just “assumed” he was guilty and threw him out.

You’d be crying “Oui, Oui, Oui” all the way home!!!

  8. mario says:

You obviously do not understand the US impeachment process nor its purpose. I tried to explain it to you but I can see by your last comment that it had no effect on you.

No one assumed anything. The Illinois House and Senate studied the evidence against Blagojevich and determined he was guilty. This is exactly how the impeachment process works and how it’s been in every impeachment hearing in US history. Why should this one be any different?

Go read up on US impeachment and then get back to me.

  9. bigdaddy says:

No Mario. I understand the “Impeachment Process” just fine. Do you understand “Due Process”?

“a judicial requirement that enacted laws may not contain provisions that result in the unfair, arbitrary, or unreasonable treatment of an individual —called also substantive due process”

It’s pretty easy to find someone “Guilty” when they can’t present a defense. All I’m saying is it’s pretty unusual that a flaming liberal would be in favor of convicting someone without Due Process.

Why don’t you give it up? We agree on this except I think they jumped the gun and you don’t.

Can’t read up on the US Impeachment Process right now. I’m in the middle of “How To Deal With Arrogant, Pompous Liberals”! Fascinating stuff!!!

  10. mario says:

You’re not making any sense at all and no, you obviously DON’T understand the impeachment process. The legislature did not convict him of a criminal crime or take away his right to due process. Blagojevich will have his day in court. All they did was what happens in EVERY impeachment episode in the US. They did their job as dictated by US law.

Try commenting when you know what you’re talking about. You’re looking quite foolish here.

  11. bigdaddy says:

Okay. You’re right. It’s perfectly fair to impeach a public official for unproven charges or accusations without allowing them the opportunity to defend themselves. Make you feel better? Just totally ignore that I simply said I think they jumped the gun. Maybe should have waited for some sort of substantiation first. Hey!! You guys never bother with facts. So why should I expect you to start now?

Now, why don’t you construct something substantive….like how the Iraqi Elections seem to have gone off with no hitches? Like how it is beginning to appear we (Bush Administration) may have succeeded in the war?

Or maybe how it’s fair to take our taxes to hand over to people too stupid to plan ahead so that they can watch TV? Or take tax money from people that don’t believe in on demand abortion to fund abortion clinics the world over?

Your one trick pony show is growing boring. Nothing wrong with presenting view points. Kinda boring to try to brow beat people into being wrong.

Bush is no longer President. Blago is no longer Governor.

    Next??
