The House of Representatives has passed a bill calling for comprehensive reforms to the American health care system and universal insurance coverage, marking a major milestone in the battle for health care reform.
It’s the first time in the nation’s history a chamber of Congress has gotten this far as the House passed the Affordable Health Care for America Act by a vote of 220-215.
The vote came after President Obama made a last-minute appeal to his party during the House Democratic Caucus, asking them to “answer the call” of history.
A single Republican voted for the bill. Louisiana’s Anh “Joseph” Cao’s words are worth noting.
“I read the versions of the House [health reform] bill. I listened to the countless stories of Orleans and Jefferson Parish citizens whose health care costs are exploding – if they are able to obtain health care at all. Louisianans needs real options for primary care, for mental health care, and for expanded health care for seniors and children.”
“I have always said that I would put aside partisan wrangling to do the business of the people. My vote tonight was based on my priority of doing what is best for my constituents.”
Exactly. If there is a single issue where politics should play a secondary role and the true needs of the people takes precedence, it’s health care. The suffering is real. People dying is real. The politics is not.

I would be interested in (and I’m sure someone will do it) following the re-election efforts of those who voted in favor of this atrocity over the next couple of election cycles.
It would be interesting to know how many of those that voted for this bill are not re-elected. I predict a major public backlash.
WHOO HOO!
