The Obama administration has rescinded an offer for Iranian envoys to attend U.S. embassy Fourth of July parties as the violent crackdown in Tehran continues.
Hillary speaks…
“Unfortunately, circumstances have changed and participation by Iranian diplomats would not be appropriate in light of the unjust actions that the president and I have condemned,” she said in her message sent overseas. “For invitations which have been extended, posts should make clear that Iranian participation is no longer appropriate in the current circumstances. For invitations which have not been extended, no further action is needed.”
Might this be the game breaker for the Iranian government? Will Ahmadinejad now admit he rigged the election? I think so.

Ha! Obama had no choice here but to rescind the invite. Republicans are already viewing this as the president caving in to them when in fact it is nothing more than the Obama reacting to the situation on the ground. Exactly what a good president should be doing.
I doubt the Iranians would of shown up for July 4th festivities anyway. The word must of come down that all invites by Americans be rejected so the move to cancel by the State department is moot at best.

I really think they should let the Iranians come on the 4th of July, but if you want to put a hat on them and put them in the dunce category then that is what we will get. But if they come, will they change us in any way? Or is it just that if we make a statement by declining the initial invitation then they are going to respect us more? Bargaining power or false sense of security, false sense of power? False sense of control?
Don’t know if I agree with this move. You cannot shut the door on the prodigal son. Keep your friends close and your enemies closer, if you consider countries with dissenting views to be your enemies… and then the question here would be, why? By you I don’t mean you Mario, I mean the people who ran and who are running this country, the United States. Don’t believe by shutting them down we can discuss the inhumane and civil liberty violations… Etc.
We change our course… I have to write a blog in the Obama website to let them know how I feel. When I do, I will try to see if I can post it here. I can also try to post it at the White House site.
Thanks for inspiring me to write something. Its been a while…
I am of two minds on this:
1. It would be the appearance of impropriety to have the Iranian envoys come to a 4th celebration, which is about democracy and the birth of the U.S., while their countrymen are subjugating and killing their other protesting countrymen. (and by countrymen I mean men/women).
2. The Iranian envoys are probably not the ones making Iranian policy decisions so why not have them to the party, show them what the 4th is all about. When Busch was in office and I was travelling to a different country I did not want those I met to judge me on that administration’s policy. Likewise, perhaps we shouldn’t judge the Iranian envoys on the policies of their country but get to know the person(s).
Well, he can bow, kiss his ring, and call him “Supreme Leader” all he wants… but these blood-soaked tyrants are laughing at Obambi. It doesn’t matter what Obama says to the Mullahs now… they lost all respect for him when he started sending them adoring fan mail. They know this smiley plastic mannequin isn’t going to do anything.

Ronald Reagan’s support of Poland’s Solidarity in the dark days of the Soviet-ordered crackdown is the model here… not the preposterous straw-man argument of “what are you going to do, invade?” disingenuously presented by the do-nothing, Obama-pologist left.
-
And isn’t this what George W Bush told you was going to happen in the Middle East in the wake of Iraq’s liberation?
-
Maybe that’s why Barack Obama has so little apparent interest in finishing the job in Iran… no matter how much it benefits the US and free world.
-
That, and the fact that he’s already piled all his chips on legitimizing this vile regime- and a democratic revolution at this point would be downright embarrassing for him.
