    Well done.

Here is an illustration idea: the low-information voter. They drive me crazy.

An unbelievable percentage of R voters in Ohio are either unsure or are positive that it was Romney responsible for taking down bin Ladin. How do you get that stupid?

Actually, I saw a good cartoon – a man and a woman, watching FOX. Their heads were toilets. On the TV screen was a close-up of Rush’s behind, getting ready to deposit what behinds deposit into toilets. However, I see your illustration being more refined.

  2. occupyalways says:

I remember 9/11 as the first war declared on America by cowardly religious fanatics. Cowards that will kill innocent bystanders as long as their long term goals are met. Cowards that do not wear warrior uniforms so they don’t obey international rules of war. Cowards that will put mothers and children in harms way so they can live another day. Cowards that kidnap NGOs that do great humanitarian efforts and cut them up or bury them for noone to find.Cowrads that will man planes in twin towers to annihilate people that couldn’t defend themselves

So 9/11 shows the worse of humankind but America and the world transcend this ugliness and provides HOPE of a better day. Whether one is religious or not,the right to liberty and happiness remains at the forefront of every individual and will remain the focus of democracies across the world. We refuse to disappear into the night and we accept the right to be free.

Religion has its place in the world but when it becomes a tool to dictate human policy and intervention other than God’s will of peace in the human heart, then we should stand solidly against the wolf in sheep’s clothing.

  3. JOHN LIMING says:

I was struck by what I thought was an audacious public statement that credited President George W. Bush for “Keeping America Safe.” I hope someone mentioned that to the families of the victims of 9/11.

  4. JOHN LIMING says:

‘…Religion has its place in the world but when it becomes a tool to dictate human policy and intervention…”
and of course, in case anyone isn’t noticing, this is exactly what the far right religious extremests in America intend to do…

  5. Carol says:

I was remembering this morning with a friend…my remark was that the entire day seemed like a horror movie and it took a long time to face the enormity of what had transpired. I mourn for the fallen and for those across this world who live in danger.

Thank you for your post so beautifully spoken, occupyalways:
“…we accept the right to be free”

Just the right tone in your illustration Mario…I’m so glad to have found you.

As for the persistent meme that George Bush kept us safe, well…we know better.

  6. Sydney says:

Read the op-Ed in the NYT by Kurt Eichenwald and the exerp from his new book “500 Days” in vanity fair. You will learn that the Bush administration were warned months before 9/11. Bushs hubris and small intellect shoed no interest in the many warnings provided by the CIA . We all know about the daily briefing “bin laden determined to strike the US”, but the warnings came fast and direct from the intelligence agencies, MONTHS before this daily briefing. Bush was the wrong president to be occupying the whitehouse in 2001 and this country and Iraq paid a enormous price.

  7. brian says:

George W Bush ignored the warnings put to him. He’s repsonsible for the attacks, and the deaths of 3000 people.

  8. Hello all. Just returned from Portland, OR doing my fraud fighting thing. So much going on these days, I’m having trouble keeping up on all things.

Up early this a.m. and logged into twitter only to find the GOP en masse sending out their remembrances for the first responders. The hypocrisy of it just set me off. The GOP voted almost to a person against the Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act. They refused to even consider legislation that would have kept these first responders in jobs all across the country and The Help Emergency Responders Operate Emergency Systems which was sent to a committee to die (along with the unfunded mandate that first responders update their communication equipment by 2013 so they can communicate between agencies). Congress passed the law in 2004, didn’t provide the funding and still hasn’t, leaving the burden to comply up to the states and communities to pay for the upgrades they demand be implemented. You’ll note, all done under a GOP controlled Congress. The 2011 bill – proposed by a Dem, was ushered off to the Communications Committee where it hasn’t been heard from since. Rep Peter King made a big deal about it – co-sponsored the bill, and issued all the press releases and then…nothing. But you can bet his constituents haven’t a clue.

All they’ve done since 2010 is denigrate these men and women who would take a bullet for us or walk through fire to save us all because they belong to a union that wants to make sure they have proper equipment, decent salaries and pensions when they can no longer take the stress of the job or their health from breathing toxic fumes has done its share of damage to their lungs.

And yet the tweets flooded over twitter as if they all gave a damn.

    They make me sick.

  9. Sydney says:

The first responders are trotted out like so many other props that the GOP has in its magical bag of tricks….the troops, god, the constitution and their ever favorite stand by….the founding fathers. Just like an entertainer who gives the audience what it wants, the GOP KNOWS it’s audience well. In the bubble, that is their worldview, they can always knock ‘em dead with guns god gays and patriotism. Works every time.

Are there some more details that you can offer to back this up? I would be interested in seeing some facts and not someone’s theoretical conjecture as there are enough conspiracy theories floating around as it is.

  13. Saint Stephen says:

The way the Republicans handled 9/11 was, to me, their greatest con job ever. It happened on their watch, yet they were able to convince enough voters in 2004 that the country would be in greater danger of being attacked again if we voted a Democrat into office. Just amazing!

I remember thinking, in my more politically naive days in 2004, that they should be ashamed to even ask for a 2nd term. I have since learned that Republicans have no shame.

BTW, my nomination for their 2nd greatest con job is the assertion, which Romney repeated just recently, that cutting taxes produces more government revenue. Or 2 – 1 = 3, or something like that. Like the Big Dog said, they have a problem with arithmetic.

  14. Margaret C. Smith says:

I agree w/ Steve B.. Colorado Public Television 12 premiered a video called “9/11: Explosive Evidence- Experts Speak Out”. The video is absolutely fascinating and quite convincing. Just as a teaser; how many of you are aware of the third tower-#7- that collapsed on its own foundation with no plane crash or jet fuel for an excuse. Tower 7 is the Smoking Gun. Many eyewitnesses testify to synchronized explosions inside the buildings, molten steel, horizontal projectile ejection of building materials, pulverized concrete and bone, expedited removal of evidence to China (!!!!!) for “recycling” and more and more and more. Can’t wait to see if these folks take on the Pentagon “crash”. Our own government has been doing some Very Bad Things and it’s time for all of us to pay good attention to the hard evidence. The rest of the planet is perfectly aware of what happened and it’s time the good citizens of the U.S. joined them.

  15. demi says:

the day of 911 was ever so scarey i remember hanging up clothes on the clothes line in my back yard i saw a plane go over very low, i didn’t know what to think then it turned around as i was watching it go over i felt a wierd chill go through me. At the time i had no idea to what was going on so i finished my chores and went inside, My husband who was home sick yelled down to me that the towers had just been attacked we were under attack, i told him what happened with the plane i saw we were glued to the tv. Then i thought let me go and get my grand children from school before i could they were released and on their way home. I never saw anything like this before but i know Rudi Gulianni knows all about it though. But still my heart goes out to the families and friends of all those who lost their lives that day and all those brave men and women who are still sufferring from the after affects of the 911 attacks. I pray that this never happens again but with those of us that keep pushing the buttons of the muslims i’m not so sure what our fate holds, cowards no i really woudn’t say that but determined to get us if they can i would say that, things were quite for years now look at whats going on Romneys trying to grandstand all he can. But we must realize Romneys a candidate Obama is the president he is in charge not Romney. no matter who wins the election Obama is still the president right and in charge so Romneys comments really are meaningless, he has no power to do anything if he wins the election he won’t come into office until January 2013 he can’t come back to today and prove any point he thinks he has thats he’s better for the job of protecting us. It will be over finished done by then, unless he wants to follow through with his promise to Israel to war against Iran, if one makes a promise like that and aren’t even in office and has no power at all then one has to wonder what other kinds of promises has this guy Romney made around the world, donating american lives on the premise of what Iran might do or maybe thinking about doing. If Iran wanted to harm Israel they would be doing it right now. No waiting no grandstanding.. Bibi does not need Obamas approval to move forward on whatever he insists has to happen. Obama is right for saying if Bibi jumps the gun and starts a war with Iran then he is on his own as should be, We have to focus on america keeping ourselves safe we can’t keep running off half cocked and sending our men a nd women in harms way for a idea of what someone might do. these things that happened in Libiya my god so crazy but it happened none the less thank god that the 4 who are believed to have killed our people are caught and will be dealt. I think that goes to show that Our President Obama is on the job he’s not leading from behind so that none sense should stop. If any president we have ever had in this country is on top of everything to do with keeping this country safe going after the bad guys promptly it’s the president we have right now.we can’t for see anything most of the time but with a president who stays focused who stays informed and engaged at all levels and events that occur we can’t go wrong. Obama you can hardly call soft he’s proven that today look at how fast everyone worked together to get the attacks of our people.

  16. Sydney says:

Of Romneys foreign policy advisors 70% of them were active and working with the Bush administration, and all of them warmongers. We better pray that this man doesn’t win this election, he has no mind of his own and he is attempting a HOSTILE TAKEOVER of this country. He will destroy this country.

  17. JOHN LIMING says:

I found an article on Wikipedia that I thought was very interesting and I would like to share it at this time.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theodemocracy

  18. Sydney says:

    John,
That’s for that link. I have done ALOT of research on the Mormon religion. Joseph Smith at one time ran for president himself, planning to spread Mormonism throughout the country.
Smith gave many prophecys while alive, the most relevant right now would be THE WHITE HORSE PROPHECY, in which he prophetized that the day would come when the constitution would be hanging by a thread. A Mormon leader would come riding a white horse into the presidency just in tome to save the country. There will be a war with RUSSIA, which we would win and many Americans would be converted to Mormonism, many, refusing to convert would be slaughtered and some would remain to be SLAVES for the Mormon leaders. (maybe that is his job program).
The most frightening aspect of Mormonism, is that they have living apostles, who gets direct information from god and all new information must be followed by all Mormons. Their religion comes first, all good Mormons KNOW this.
So, besides taking advise from every rightwing warmongering nut job, he must answer to his god FIRST.

  19. JOHN LIMING says:

    Dear Sydney:

And who, I ask you, has been declaring that Russia is our number one enemy?

And if you wish to tune back into wikipedia and make a little study of “The Patriot Movement” you might find some kind of suggestion that there are some in this country who have a paranoid delusion about The Constitution being in dire danger right at this very moment….and guess who the greatest threat to that Constitution is? Why in their view, it is the great ursurper himself, B.H.O.

Is this the moment for visions of the past to become the realities of our future?

And how many Americans are even aware of the possibility or who do not wish to discuss it because of the sanctity that Americans have placed on religion?
