Sunday Morning Talking Heads

.

Woke up to find an empty box of Mini-Wheats.  Not happy.

Here’s the morning lineup via C&L.

ABC’s “This Week” – Sens. Kent Conrad, D-N.D., and Lindsey Graham, R-S.C.; former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright; Honeywell International’s chief executive, David Cote, a member of the president’s debt commission.

CBS’ “Face the Nation” – Sen.-elect Rand Paul, R-Ky., and Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y.

NBC’s “Meet the Press” – White House adviser David Axelrod; Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz.; former Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan; former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.

CNN’s “State of the Union” – Sens. John Cornyn, R-Texas, and Mark Warner, D-Va.; Reps. James Clyburn, D-S.C., and Heath Shuler, D-N.C.

CNN’s “Fareed Zakaria GPS” – In Asia, the mood towards American intervention in the region appears to have shifted dramatically. See why a year ago the talk there was about American irrelevance, but now many are thinking about the United States as a counterbalance to the rising power in the region, China. Then, Fareed has an exclusive conversation with elder statesmen, George Shultz.

“Fox News Sunday” – Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., and Axelrod.

I made my choice.  It’s going to be Woody Allen’s Broadway Danny Rose on DVD but if you do watch any of the above, give us a shout.

Sunday Morning Talking Heads

.

If you somehow missed the news, Republicans won big on Tuesday which is why the powers that be decided that no one was really interested in hearing what the losers had to say.  Republicans outnumber Dems 11 to 2 on the morning shows.

Via C&L:

ABC’s “This Week” – Sen.-elect Rand Paul, R-Ky.; Rep. Mike Pence, R-Ind.

CBS’ “Face the Nation” – Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky.; Rep. James Clyburn, D-S.C.

NBC’s “Meet the Press” – Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., and Gov. Chris Christie, R-N.J.

CNN’s “State of the Union” – Gov. Rick Perry, R-Texas; Gov. Tim Pawlenty, R-Minn.; Sen.-elect Pat Toomey, R-Pa.; Rep. Chris Van Hollen, D-Md.

“Fox News Sunday” – GOP Reps. Eric Cantor of Virginia, Paul Ryan of Wisconsin and Darrell Issa of California.

Hey, I just realized I haven’t yet moved the clocks back an hour.  Another hour to my day.  Nice.

Happy Sunday.

On Sunday Morning Talking Heads and Flying

.

Yesterday was a travel day.  I had a 6AM flight so I naturally began packing at midnight.  Dumb, I know, but that’s how we procrastinators roll.   There are a few things in life I don’t enjoy (cutting the grass, painting and shopping to name but three) and packing is one of them.  The strange thing is that I’m actually a great packer – quick and efficient – but there is something about gearing myself up mentally to get the process started that I find difficult.  I think it has to do with having to spend time deciding what I’m bringing that I find most troublesome which is why I always find the return trip packing an easier task.  You bring back whatever you brought.  Nice.

Anyway, after an hour of sleep, I arrived at the airport at 4:15, checked in and had my first go at one of those full body X-ray scanners.  Yippee.  The process is quick and painless and certainly beats a full-body pat down which is what they subject you to should you refuse the X-ray scanner.

I still hear people complaining about airport security as being too intrusive given the check-in waiting times, removing of shoes, x-ray or rummaging of one’s carry-on luggage, metal detectors and now full body scanners.  Certainly it’s a bit of a hassle and travel would be somewhat more pleasant if we were not subjected to any of the security measures they put us through.  But it’s a small price to pay for peace of mind.  I’m not complaining.

As for the Sunday morning talking heads, here’s the list compliments of C&L.

ABC’s “This Week” – Democratic National Committee Chairman Tim Kaine; retired Gen. Hugh Shelton, a former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

CBS’ “Face the Nation” – Rep. Chris Van Hollen, D-Md.; former Bush adviser Karl Rove.

NBC’s “Meet the Press” – Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele.

NBC’s “The Chris Matthews Show” – Panel: Dan Rather, Katty Kay, Andrew Sullivan, Cynthia Tucker. Topics: Did President Obama Push His Own Agenda To His Party’s Detriment? Will Tea Party Members Go Rogue On Republicans And Form A Third Party?

CNN’s “State of the Union” – Florida Senate debate with Republican nominee Marco Rubio, Democratic nominee Kendrick Meek and independent Charlie Crist.

CNN’s “Fareed Zakaria GPS” – Americans take to the voting booth in just over a week. The most important issue – jobs. Fareed’s take on why technology and the global marketplace have taken so many jobs from America – and maybe even taken the American dream, too. Richard Holbrooke, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao.

“Fox News Sunday” – Pat Toomey, Republican nominee for Senate in Pennsylvania; Joe Manchin, Democratic nominee for Senate in West Virginia.

Happy Sunday.

Bogart, Teabaggers and a Pizza

.

Bleary-eyed and tired this morning.  I was up till about 3AM watching Casablanca and The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, two of the best Bogey films ever.  I do the staying up late part quite well.  It’s the sleeping in the morning after part I’m lousy at.

Your best bet this morning as far as the teevee world of talking heads go is probably going to be Fareed Zakaria’s GPS on CNN.  He and a panel of historians will discuss the Tea Party phenomena.  I wonder if a group of aged, Fox-watching, bad dressed, clueless, white people with a deep hatred for President Obama can be referred to as a phenomena?  I guess so although phenomena should be prefaced with the word ‘artificial’.

Hey, I found a large piece of pizza dough buried in the freezer!  This is good news.  It comes from a batch I made about a year ago when I was in a pizza-making frenzy mode.   What is the life span of frozen pizza dough?  I’ll have to look it up but methinks homemade pizza is on the menu this afternoon. Nice.

Happy Sunday, everyone.

Talking Heads (and Paint Sprayers)

.

A few interesting things to watch this Sunday morning.  ABC has a town hall thing going on dealing with the Islamic community center in New York.  Might be worth the watch but if not, Fox has the Kentucky Senate debate between Rand Paul and Jack Conway.

Either one of those or the Ryder Cup on NBC…or a morning picnic on the beach.   Tough choice.

Happy Sunday.

.

Quick question: What is it about stupid infomercials that make them so damn captivating?  I woke up at six this morning with the television still on from last night (fell asleep while watching Rainman.)  I opened my eyes to some crazed pitchman selling a paint sprayer for the “ridiculously” low price of $99.99 which you could get with three easy payments of $33.33.  Actually it was four easy payments of $33.33 but they were dropping one of the payments because…well I’m not sure why but they were.  And if you called within the next twenty minutes, they were throwing in 2 jumbo-sized drop cloths as well as masking tape.  Nice.

Anyway, I’m lying in bed watching this guy paint an entry door in less than a minute (it took him only 58 seconds which I thought was pretty impressive) and I’m asking myself why the hell I’m up on a Sunday morning at such an ungodly hour watching this stuff.  And while I’m thinking that, I’m also asking myself if I might possibly have a need for a spray painter.

I’ll let you know if I come up with any answers.
