Fox has long ago dropped any pretense that they’re anything other than a lying, propaganda network.
We wrote a few days ago about a report put out by the Center for American Progress which revealed that seven foundations have spent more than $42 million in the last decade in a concerted effort to fan the flames of Islamophobia. The report named Fox News as one of the agents used to disseminate the anti-Muslim hate. True to form, Fox has come to their own defense by stating a blatant lie.
Last night, Fox’s Eric Bolling hosted a panel discussion to rebuke the report’s findings. He opened with this line.
I need to point this out – I’m reading directly from this report: “The Obama-allied Center for American Progress has released a report that blames Islamophobia in America on a small group of Jews and Israel supporters in America, whose views are being backed by millions of dollars.”
Faiz Shakir, one of the report’s authors, responded over at Think Progress.
To be clear, that quote is nowhere to be found in our report. If Fox wants to read “directly” from the report, we’re happy to send them a copy. In the meantime, they should stop making up quotes and issue a correction.
Don’t hold your breath waiting for a correction from Fox. The Bolling statement was not a mistake on their part. It was a calculated lie and another example of what Fox does best – distort the truth and openly lie as a means to tell the story they want their viewers to believe. Nothing new there.
And the sheeple will never know that they’re being manipulated and fed a load of crap. After all, what makes them such good and obedient sheep is that for most of them, Fox is their only source of information. How convenient for the Goebbels News Channel.
This weekend, Tea Party Nation (TPN) sent an email in support of Lynne Torgerson, who is running against Rep. Keith Ellison in Minnesota. In the email, TPN lists the reasons Ellison should be “retired.” Among them: “He is the only Muslim member of congress.”
The email:
There are a lot of liberals who need to be retired this year, but there are few I can think of more deserving than Keith Ellison. Ellison is one of the most radical members of congress. He has a ZERO rating from the American Conservative Union. He is the only Muslim member of congress. He supports the Counsel for American Islamic Relations, HAMAS and has helped congress send millions of tax to terrorists in Gaza.
May I suggest that teabaggers are for the most part a small-minded lot of bigoted scum?
(For the record, there is a second Muslim in Congress: Rep. Andre Carson of Indiana. Shhh. Don’t tell anyone.)

I haven’t commented on the Juan Williams firing from NPR because, honestly, I just don’t care. Williams has never struck me as particularly insightful or brilliant. I tend to view him as the quintessential Fox Liberal – a sort of political Goldilocks and the Three Bears, not too hot, not too cold but just right.
As for his comment regarding Muslims, I’m with Sullivan on this one.
“…the full context in no way exonerates Williams in his conflation of Muslims – not Jihadists or al Qaeda or extreme Muslims or radical Muslims – but Muslims period with terrorism. Williams is not observing and airing the irrational fear of Muslims who put their Muslim identity first and foremost, airing a fact, he is saying it is justified given the extremist Muslim origin of recent terrorism. He is conflating the extreme with the general. This is what bigotry is. It is unfairly tarring the vast majority of innocent members of a group with the acts of a tiny few of 1.3 billion people.”
Is Williams a bigot? I don’t know but I’m guessing he’s not. Was the thought he expressed bigoted? Absolutely. Should he have been fired over his statement? I’m thinking not but whether it was justified or not, Williams comes out ahead with a three year/$2 million contract with Fox.
What we know now is that CNN and NPR take bigotry seriously and that Fox actually rewards its employees for making bigoted remarks.
Yep.

There is no more ignorant, misinformed, shit-for-brains, fear-mongering, lying fool running for Congress than Nevada’s Sharron Angle. At a Tea Party rally last week, Angle took the following question from an equally ignorant teabagger.
“I keep hearing about Muslims wanting to take over the United States … on a TV program just last night, I saw that they are taking over a city in Michigan and the residents of the city, they want them out. They want them out. So, I want to hear your thoughts about that.”
Angle’s response.
“…we’re talking about a militant terrorist situation, which I believe it isn’t a widespread thing, but it is enough that we need to address, and we have been addressing it.”
“My thoughts are these, first of all, Dearborn, Michigan, and Frankford, Texas are on American soil, and under constitutional law. Not Sharia law. And I don’t know how that happened in the United States. It seems to me there is something fundamentally wrong with allowing a foreign system of law to even take hold in any municipality or government situation in our United States.”
The woman who affirmed by her response that she believes at least two American cities are currently under Sharia law is now leading Harry Reid by a slight margin in the polls.
A person who believes that demonizing Muslims by way of outright lies is acceptable politics might very well become a United States Senator.
Something is terribly wrong with this country.

Led by the Republican party and its irresponsible leaders, right-wing hate and fear-mongering has now led to this.
Slices of bacon were laid down on a brink walkway to the Florence Islamic Center in Florence, S.C. on Sunday in a manner that spelled out “PIG CHOPS.” The incident — evidently aimed the center because of the Islamic dietary restrictions against pork — is just the latest in a string of anti-Muslim episodes around the country.
This is not going to end in a nice way.
