The Kagan Hearing

.

Five key issues to watch at the Kagan nomination hearing.

* militiary recruitment on Harvard’s campus (a non-story)

* abortion (yawn – the old standby)

* campaign finance reform ( Kagan represented the government in restricting corporate spending in elections)

* Kagan’s liberal background and how it’ll influence her judgeship (what?!!?  a liberal nominee?  horrors)

* Kagan’s lack of judicial experience (could be more of a plus than a negative)

They’ll yap, jab, nitpick, praise, question and at the end of the process, Elena Kagan will be the fourth woman to serve on the Supreme Court.  End of story.

I love the artwork today, Mario!

I have watched most of it this morning and she is doing great. It is jaw dropping how Sessions comports himelf. He hammers her about his fear that she is a liberal, yet today and the days before, he thinks his right-wing ideas are the right way, not any kind of bias that he has. What a self-satisfied right-wing, old white southern boar he is.

  2. Letitia Vaughan says:

Azannaphx, I agree, and to think Sessions is my Senator! (What an embarrassment!) I contact him almost weekly expressing my dissent, but of course, he just replies with right wing rhetoric. I’m not sure why I even bother.

  3. E.A. Blair says:

Sessions is just bitter for having been passed over when he was up for a judicial post. Probably thinks he should be up for the Supremes.

Letitia , you have my condolences. I happen to have one really good senator (Russ Feingold) and one okay one (Herb Kohl). In fact, Kohl’s been pretty positive towards Kagan from what I’ve heard.

  4. Janet says:

    This is beautiful.
    Sharing for you, Mario.

A palindrome reads the same backwards as forward. This video reads the exact opposite backwards as forward. Not only does it read the opposite, the meaning is the exact opposite..

This is only a 1 minute, 44 second video and it is brilliant. Make sure you read as well as listen…forward and backward.

This is a video that was submitted in a contest by a 20-year old. The contest was titled “u @ 50″ by AARP. This video won second place When they showed it, everyone in the room was awe-struck and broke into spontaneous applause. So simple and yet so brilliant.

  5. Letitia Vaughan says:

Thanks, E.A., Both Sessions and Shelby are the pits. Alabama has a Republican Governor, Republican senators and most of our representatives are Republican. For the life of me I can’t figure why.
    Ignorance, perhaps?

I’m glad you have at least have one good senator.

  6. E.A. Blair says:

Letitia, it might amuse you to know that on Countdown, Keith Olbermann called Sessions the “senator from the Keebler Elves’ tree”.

  7. Letitia Vaughan says:

I know! So apropos! And I can never look at him as he bumbles along reading some script without thinking Keebler Elf.

  8. Janet says:

After watching Ms. Kagan today, I like her. She is one cool chick. Very charming, intelligent, sweet, and funny. She will make a fine Supreme Court Justice. I am disturbed by the constant dissing on the late Justice Marshal though. What is up with that?
