With the Supreme Court ruling, corporations and unions can now spend as much as they wish on campaign ads for specific politicians. Foreign interests in control of multi-nationals now have unprecedented influence over American politics. It is hard to imagine how every American, regardless of party affiliation, would not be outraged at one of the most dangerous and irresponsible decisions to ever come down from the high court. Chief Justice Roberts has put politics in front of country with this decision.

“This ruling opens the floodgates for an unlimited amount of special interest money into our democracy,” the president said in his weekly radio and Internet message. “It gives the special interest lobbyists new leverage to spend millions on advertising to persuade elected officials to vote their way — or to punish those who don’t.”

Not just “for” but also “against” specific politicians. The Supreme Court is too fearful of “chilling” free speech. Now election campaigning will be dirtier than ever.
I live in a predominantly Rethuglican area (read redneck). However, they’re rednecks with computers. There’s also a local blog, and it’s been interesting that even these Neanderthals seem to understand (for the most part) that this Supreme Court decision isn’t good for the nation, and certainly isn’t good for the man on the street.
Unfortunately we’re stuck with the Supreme Court members appointed by Republicans ’til they croak, so the only way to fix things is through legislation.
What kind of democracy will this become if we let this happen. All this smells like a short-term plan to have our democracy dictated by puppet politicians of corporations and that our voice will not be heard because corrupt politicians will never hear us.
Next election, vote for Democrats because we give corporations a hard time. And remember :
If allowed to run free of the social system, capitalism will attempt to corrupt and undermine democracy, which is after all not a natural state.
