Neutering Tiger

.

The slackers at PETA wouldn’t do it so I took up the cause.

The animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has nixed a plan to use Tiger Woods’ image on a billboard urging people to spay and neuter their pets.

PETA previously announced it would erect a billboard in Windermere — near Woods’ home — with his picture and the words: “Too much sex can be a bad thing … Always spay or neuter!”

The group, which is known for edgy campaigns, says it decided to put the Woods billboard on hold after talking with the golfer’s attorneys.

PETA wouldn’t say whether Woods’ attorneys threatened to sue.

Instead of Woods, the ad will feature South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford, whose widely known dalliances have also made frequent headlines.

Great ad! So they are using Sanford instead? Makes no sense….

If I were Tiger… I’d sue their ass to high heaven. Then again, I’m not a fan of PETA as you can tell.

  3. Given the long history of castration of black men in this country by white men who claim that black men lust after the virginal purity of white women and are rapists by nature, I would have thought you would refrain from drawing this parallel. I’m deeply disappointed and horrified, quite frankly. I’ve been following your work for a while now with admiration and respect, and I just don’t know how to respond to this. I urge you to take this offensive thing down.

Many men fuck around on their wives and girlfriends without the public condemnation that Tiger Woods has received. Personally, I don’t give a fuck about his sex life. It’s his private business and is between him and his wife and his 7 million girlfriends. I can’t help wondering how much of the reaction is fueled by the fact of his dark skin and his apparent fondness for blonde white women. I wonder if he had been dallying with African-American women or Latinas or Asians, if anybody would have reacted at all.

In the event, aren’t the Emmet Tills and Rosewoods and Scottsboro Boys of history enough to ensure that this sort of post, and the attendant images of black men hanging high with their genitals mutilated never again darken our minds and hearts?

I urge you to take this down.

  4. @politicalcat. The only thing offensive here is the way you have interpreted my illustration. I do not have to defend anything I do here but I will in this case, for three reasons:

    1. You seem to be a decent person.
    2. You’re political.
    3. You’re a cat.

If you have read my stuff, then you know where I’m coming from on the Tiger affair. I have not written much on it. In my last post on Tiger (Tiger’s Meow), I wrote…

“I really don’t care except to note that as a fellow human being, I hope he honestly works it all out.”

That sums up my feelings on the matter. The above illustration had nothing to do with Tiger’s color or the fact he messed around with white women. I did a satirical piece on a PETA campaign which I thought was smart and effective. My illustration has Woods being kissed by a white woman. So what? Should I have put in a black woman? Would that have appeased you even though it would have been dishonest?

The bottom line is that Tiger Woods is a public figure who has made a fortune by way of his talent and the willingness of people to purchase the goods he endorses. If he’s going to accept the good stuff, then he’s got to be willing to accept the crap. He messed up and has no one to blame but himself. When you’re making a billion dollars from advertisers and then run around and screw every cocktail waitress from coast to coast, you can’t start crying about the evil media. It’s a package deal. Period.

So, to reiterate, I don’t really care what happens to Tiger except that I’d rather it all works out in a positive way for everyone involved. I’d feel the same way for anyone in his position. For you to start insinuating that my little illustration in any way has anything to do with his color or his penchant for white women is silly and I suspect has more to do with your preconceived notions than anything else.

    Take good care.
