I just had the following conversation with my brother-in-law.
me: Here, I just bought some cherries. Have some. mark: No thanks. I hate cherries. me: What? mark: I don’t like cherries. me: You don’t like cherries? You’re kidding right? mark: Nope. I’ve never liked cherries. me: You’re a crazy man.
How can anyone not love cherries? They’re pretty. They’re delicious. They have a little handle thingy on top to pick them up with. They’re the perfect fruit.
The world confuses me at times.

Mark, cherries are a versatile fruit. They make great pies, drink garnish, jubilees, cobblers. They are great in cereal, fruit fizzies and ice cream! You can even add them to soap and candles.
I even heard people can tie the stem in a bow with their tongue. Isn’t that fantastic?
What is not to like about cherries Mark? Perhaps you only ‘think’ you don’t like them because someone broke your heart over a bowl of cherries. Try one again, the flavor will erase all your bad memories.
THERE is a garden in her face
Where roses and white lilies blow;
A heavenly paradise is that place,
Wherein all pleasant fruits do flow:
There cherries grow which none may buy
Till ‘Cherry-ripe’ themselves do cry.
Those cherries fairly do enclose
Of orient pearl a double row,
Which when her lovely laughter shows,
They look like rose-buds fill’d with snow;
Yet them nor peer nor prince can buy
Till ‘Cherry-ripe’ themselves do cry.
Her eyes like angels watch them still;
Her brows like bended bows do stand,
Threat’ning with piercing frowns to kill
All that attempt with eye or hand
Those sacred cherries to come nigh,
Till ‘Cherry-ripe’ themselves do cry.
@Janine I was one of those who could tie the stem in my mouth with only my tongue – but it took a few drinks, friends at a bar encouraging you and lots of practice- that was years ago- don’t think I could do that again ?
@Mario try giving Mark a Maraschino Cherry in a Cherry coke. I know our ways are strange to him, but he will soon come to join you here among the fruit.
Posts don’t get too much more serious than this. Living in a world where I now know there exists people who don’t like cherries is both disheartening and frightening.
It’s a fine line between hating cherries and believing that Obama was born in Mombassa, Kenya.

Also maybe your brother in law Mark (the crazy man as you say) could do some commenting here on this blog. He could align himself with Hank and Tommy and we could have some fun heated debates. Aye?
Our senses and how we perceive people, food, animals, etc., its all very very personal and it is based on our perception. A perception that has been altered by our “personal” experiences or carried over in our DNA.
To a color blind person the cherries would probably look green or yellow or even brown and that may not be as appealing …
Kiwis I’d understand, but cherries?

Perception is a marvelous concept!
When I worked in the real world, I had a sign in my office that said
“Perception is reality’”
Ain’t it true!
