Sad? So you would prefer they just put blinders on, ask no questions and blindly and subserviently approve a trillion dollar plus expenditure? Why? Just because President Obama said so? Are you trying to tell me it is not the CONSTITUTIONAL DUTY of these pathetic pariahs to investigate and thoroughly question the validity and need of this massive, wasteful, “Stimulus” Package?
If you wish your commentary to be relevant, you need to put the Kool Aide down and really need to look closely at this thing. I’m all for doing what they can to stimulate the economy. What I am not for is appropriating ANY FUNDING at this time that is not critical.
I think it is a disgrace that these “Politicians” would use the financial difficulties this nation faces as an opportunity to sneak in funding for a Grab Bag of measures they have been unable to get funding for over the last 12 years.
The only disgrace here is that Republicans are playing politics while the economy nosedives further.
People voted for change and not the economic policies of the last 8 years. Can you not understand this? Did you actually think that Obama would bow down to the party that LOST the election and implement all that they wanted in the stimulus bill? He has already given them much in the tax cuts they wanted.
People are suffering and if there is any consensus by economists, it’s that something needs to be done soon. You know as well as I do that there is NO stimulus package which would please Reps unless they got to write it themselves.
Republicans are still not understanding that they’re the bums who caused much of what we now see in the economy. They spent like drunkin’ sailors for 8 years and now when spending is needed in the midst of this economic crisis they created, they’re complaining?
You just don’t get it do you? You are so Radically Liberal, you just can’t accept the fact that someone may just simply, legitimately disagree outside of Political Persuasion.
Are the Republicans playing Politics any more than the Democrats? Who have used the financial difficulties this country is facing to trot out every pet project they have wanted over the past 10 years or so, and attach funding for them to a bill that is supposed to be rushed through as an emergency measure?
Your reasoning here is just stupid and I would think you could do better. You are living in the past. What you are saying here is that since the Republicans screwed up, it’s okay and acceptable for the Democrats to screw it up even more!! Cataclysmicly dumb!!
And I assume by your statement that, “They spent like drunkin’ sailors for 8 years and now when spending is needed in the midst of this economic crisis they created” then you feel the Democrats, specifically Frank, Dodd, Schumer, et al., had absolutely nothing to do with the housing crisis and other difficulties we now face?
The past is the past. If it makes you feel any better, for your benefit I will say the Republicans are totally at fault for the difficulties we now face. (There. Sounds kinda ignorant when you look at it that way, doesn’t it?) So why should I sit quietly by while actions are taken that I feel will only worsen the situation?
You can accuse me of anything, but you should not accuse me of not being informed and not understanding the difficulties MY FRIGGIN’ COUNTRY is facing.
You just can’t carry on a civil discussion without personal attacks, can you bigdaddy? Well, it’s a sad reflection on the soundness of your arguments.
I’m simply saying that Reps will never agree to a stimulus bill which requires massive amounts of spending. Understandably they are locked in a conservative ideology which runs contrary to the type of action which is now required to stimulate the economy.
What is less understandable is that they refuse to accept the fact that it’s not going to be the type of bill they’d want…essentially massive tax cuts. It’s been tried and it’s failed.
So yes, have the debate but when the argument coming out of their mouth is the type of which you’re echoing – “trot out every pet project they [Democrats] have wanted over the past 10 years” – then we’re getting no where.
When a government is forced to spend 800 billion, it’s never going to be perfect. The time for talk is over and immediate action is needed now.
“When a government is forced to spend 800 billion”
And therein lies the fundamental difference in our reasoning. The Government WANTS us to think they are being forced to spend. I don’t buy it. I believe in personal responsibility. I believe if you fail, you fail. Pick yourself up. Dust off your britches and get on with recovering. I don’t view the “Government” as being my Saviour for difficulties I may face.
And it may surprise you to know I can read. And I can draw my own conclusions. I don’t have to “echo” anything. Something you may want to consider when you’re crying about “personal attacks”.
(BTW In that short reply, you made at least 5 separate disparaging comments aimed at past policies (Republicans/Bush) And I’M the one with the problem??)
I’m sorry you feel my accurate description of your commentary represents a personal attack. It does not. You are a wonderful gentleman, I’m sure. Your Politics and your reasoning are seriously lacking. I would think an Intellectual such as yourself could discern the difference.
You’ve made it abundantly clear what you think of my way of thinking. Am I to understand you have the same position on debate that you have on Politics? If one does not have the same position you do, there is something fundamentally lacking in them?
Here’s the logic I don’t understand. The US is in it’s worst economic crisis in decades and your response to it is, “Government WANTS us to think they are being forced to spend. I don’t buy it. I believe in personal responsibility. I believe if you fail, you fail. Pick yourself up.”
So essentially you’re saying that the elected government of the people should sit back and watch another 600,000 go down the tubes in February?
Here’s a classic case of where blind ideology gets in the way of common sense.
No Mario. That’s not what I’m saying. Do you purposefully try to oversimplify things to make people appear stupid?
What I’m saying is if the Government wants to pump money into the economy in order to ATTEMPT, ATTEMPT mind you to stimulate growth, then do it. But do it in a measured, well thought out and disciplined manner.
You can cry foul all you want, and that IS simply “blind ideology” as you say. The fact is this “Stimulus Package” is stuffed with funding for many things that are unnecessary, or could certainly wait until we find out if this infusion of Government spending will have the desired effect.
So, notwithstanding your total disregard for the fact that someone other than yourself may have a valid thought, by all means, target necessary areas that are in NEED of Government spending. Areas that will be enhanced by the infusion of funding and that stand the best chance of creating jobs. Preferably jobs in the private sector and not just Government positions.
But now is not the time for the Democrats to be exacting their revenge by trying to attach unnecessary spending to a bill that is supposed to be essential to sustaining our economy.
That’s why I say the Government (Democrats for now) wants us to think they are being “FORCED” to spend. And it may be the situation calls for spending. But it certainly doesn’t call for unnecessary, frivolous and gratuitous spending. THAT is what I am against. That is what the Republicans are against. (And I’ll be the first to say they are against it for opportunistic reasons) And that is what the majority of Americans are against.
Now if you want to dispute that, go for it but I don’t think you have a lot of ground to stand on.
“The only disgrace here is that Republicans are playing politics while the economy nosedives further.”
So what did you think back in September and October when the Republicans were throwing out all that money to prop up the banks and investment companies?
Read back over my previous message and you’ll see what I think! And so far, it appears I would have been right while the Republican driven infusion of bailout money was not the right thing to do.
No Mario. I think I understand it far better than you ever will. Gets back to that “Do’er/Do’ee” difference between you and I.
Sad? So you would prefer they just put blinders on, ask no questions and blindly and subserviently approve a trillion dollar plus expenditure? Why? Just because President Obama said so?
