There are lies…and then there are lies.
My own view, by the way, was that the auto companies needed to go through bankruptcy before government help. And frankly, that’s finally what the president did. He finally took them through bankruptcy. That was the right course I argued for from the very beginning. It was the UAW and the president that delayed the idea of bankruptcy. I pushed the idea of a managed bankruptcy and finally when that was done, and help was given, the companies got back on their feet. So I’ll take a lot of credit for the fact that this industry’s come back.
I am not sure how one responds to Romney’s statement in light of his previous statements on how the government should have handled the auto industry rescue. “Let Detroit Go Bankrupt” comes instantly to mind. What we do know is that by the time right-wing media gets done with it, Romney’s words will be the gospel truth in the land of wingnuttia and anything which counters that belief (aka: reality) will be the work of a lying, fiendish and manipulative liberal media. We all know the script by now.
Okay, repeat after me:
Romney saved the auto industry and Bush killed bin Laden
Romney saved the auto industry and Bush killed bin Laden
Romney saved the auto industry and Bush killed bin Laden
Romney saved the auto industry and Bush killed bin Laden
Romney saved the auto industry and Bush killed bin Laden
Romney saved the auto industry and Bush killed bin Laden
Romney saved the auto industry and Bush killed bin Laden
Romney saved the auto industry and Bush killed bin Laden
Romney saved the auto industry and Bush killed bin Laden
Romney saved the auto industry and Bush killed bin Laden
And don’t you forget it. A man’s dream of becoming the leader of the free world depends on it.

Liberal Media Bias my ass. CNN, CBS, ABC, etc…Where are they calling Mitt the liar that he is? No where. It’s too politically incorrect to do it. I can not believe a man who is such an obvious phony actually has a shot at the White House. I guess I should after we elected that idiot Bush twice…but damn, at least Bush and his cronies tried, Mitt just lets the lies hang out there.
What a lying sack of shit. He takes credit for saving Detroit which he criticized Obama for doing from the beginning but refuses to take credit for the health care act which is modeled after his own reforms. As I said, a lying sack of shit.
What does it say about a man who could lie with such shameless ease? This is reason enough to vote to prevent Mitt Romney from ever occupying in the oval office.
I don’t think we have anything to worry about guys. We have upcoming debates eventually and the very intelligent, out-spoken Obama will be taking Romney to the cleaners.
Obama’s team has been keeping tabs on Romney for a while now as they’ve been quite sure for the longest that Romney would be the eventual nominee. And, now that he is, they’re well rehearsed on how to take him down. All of Romney’s lies will not help him then.
He was at a basketball game. Jesus, what else is there Romney?
Obama is from Kenya and Bush was smartest President ever.
Obama is from Kenya and Bush was smartest President ever.
Obama is from Kenya and Bush was smartest President ever.
Obama is from Kenya and Bush was smartest President ever.
Obama is from Kenya and Bush was smartest President ever.
Obama is from Kenya and Bush was smartest President ever.
Obama is from Kenya and Bush was smartest President ever.
Obama is from Kenya and Bush was smartest President ever.
Hey, this is easy. Where can I apply for a job at Faux News?
Don’t – I repeat – don’t under estimate how much these people hate President Obama. They’d elect anything or anyone who is not the Muslim, Communist, Socialist, black, Kenyan, Democrat, Liberal, Progressive, Arab, terrorist, crook, et al, they believe is sitting in THEIR WHITE HOUSE.
And it will take not only re-electing him, but actually providing him the House and the Senate (and enough votes to overcome a filibuster) to get us growing responsibly again (and maybe actually fix some of the crappy laws they barely managed to get passed).
If the GOP ends up in control, we’re headed toward a theocracy and illiteracy along with low wages and 15% unemployment when they get finished taking the ax to everything including health care, SS and Medicare, right along with any agency in place to protect consumers from anything.
And then we can go off to war once again so the Haliburton’s of the world can get even richer.
No, don’t under estimate how much these folks hate. They’ve been spoon fed it for years and it’s all they know.
This, from The Atlantic:
Diana,
Very well said and you’re right on – we should never underestimate the hate that comes from the bowels of conservatives. It’s our White House too but you would think that they have a claim to it, forever.
You’re also right that we need control of both houses of congress and the White House to save this country. With more uncompromising Tea Party types taking control of our government, we will move that much closer to theocracy and then the only ones who will feel they’re living in a free democracy will be those who a theocracy will serve.
We will also end up on a war, probably with Iran and maybe even with North Korea too.
The biggest shame will be that they’ll lay our new higher unemployment rates on Obama while they lower taxes even more for the wealthy and cut social programs down to nil.
Yes, unfortunately you’re dead on right.
Tommy,
Obviously I’m not goint to attempt to respond to every single talking point that you’ve copied from the Republican playbook but let me make a few points here.
As far as Libya, are conservative just angry that Obama managed to add our support with some air enforcements and without committing troop’s on the ground, thereby not losing one American life? If it had been Bush, we would have another hundred thousand or more troops on the ground with the loss of American lives and civilian lives, and his response to those who questioned his authority to go, as you are doing with Obama now would be to say “I’m the Decider.”
And you conservative would be going on about how we should show a united front and support our troops and not voice our opposition. We well know that was the policy of Bush and the conservatives when Bush was in office so it would be the same way now. The problem you have as most conservatives is that Obama doesn’t cowl down to your conservative intimidation and just cowardly hide himself in the White House until you guys can discredit him and slam him when he tries to take any credit.
Also, please show us some facts that shows Obama proscecuted whistleblowers like his George W. Bush did. Or is this one of those so-called facts from someone like Rush Limbaugh or Fox News which means it shouldn’t be questioned?
And coming from the very people who defended George W. Bush when he held even an American without charges indefinitely and who has shown such a firm standing against terrorist, it sounds very hypocritical to criticize Obama for killing an American who was a terrorist. Bush had tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqis killed because they happen to be in the wrong country, with a war that was started on false information that Saddam Hussein had WMDs and was connected to Al Qaeda, but of course that was Bush and this is Obama, where killing even one terrorist who happen to be an American, just really outrages right wingers.
Don’t worry, Obama is nowhere near the trickery of Bush and the little spin team he had that made anything they done look legal, though it was about torture or spying on Americans Your memory is so very selective or is it that you just woke up when Obama took office?
Agrees with Diana, too. The steps the GOP have taken to insure less Democratic voters with voter suppression laws, is more then enough to convince me they would do ANYTHING to make sure the President does not serve a second term, but he will.
There is still hope. I see the country is waking up from a long nap and discovering that while we were napping, we have been under attack from within. I don’t see the tea party as a grass roots movement but a front for the corporate/religious cabal. It is about Power and Greed. If you take all of the separate, seemingly unconnected attacks in the State Houses, connect the dots,(follow the money) and there is an emerging picture of a REAL attempt of destroying this form of government and replacing it with their version of Government. I, for one, will probably die in the streets fighting for my freedom lost.
I still think we need a third party that really represents moderate progressive conservative values that will stop the stalemate in Washington. The people need to stop this insanity and get back to doing what is the right thing to do for the people
I am endlessly astonished by clueless politicians, pundits and other people in the public sphere who don’t seem to realize that recording devices exist and that everything they’ve said for the past twenty years is, like it or not, on the record and, not only that, available to anyone via internet and YouTube. Everybody who has a macaca moment will never have it go away. It’s about time these people realized that they no longer speak in the here and now but also in the hither and yon.
It’s also about time that Republicans and other wingnuts realized that they can’t expect to be able to drum up mistatements and sensationalizations about the people they hate (witness the recent flaps over President Obama’s youthful dietary adventures or use of composite characters – both things that have been acknowledged in print for years but now being treated as newly revealed dirty little secrets) without being held to account for their own gaffes, lies and charades.
OCCUPYALWAYS – It’s not a third party we need – that’s been attempted for years and has never (nor will be) successful. There is simply too much infrastructure required to accomplish it. It get so frustrated with Dems who become Independents or turn “Green” because they are dissatisfied with the Dems — they are simply quitters in my mind. Look what the tea party has done! Completely infiltrated the GOP and turned them inside out. If the progressives in the party put half as much effort into it that the tea party has done, we’d have something!
If you want to change the status quo – you have to step into the fray and fight for those changes. Change must come from within – it will never be achieved from the outside looking in.
The only thing third party’s do is suck votes away from one of the two major parties. What we really need is a replacement for the Republican Party, like a party that believes compromise is needed to move this country forward. A party that’s not in the pockets of the super wealthy.
As far as the Tea Party being grass roots; maybe the grass that’s growing beneath the Koch brothers expensive italian loafers because they’re the ones who actually started the Tea Party, paying for buses and signs to ship these bigots around the country so that they could yell and scream their displeasure that we elected a black man into the White House.
