The Jindal Flop

Bobby Jindal Blows his big moment.

Bobby Jindal, the young Louisiana governor, had his big moment in the spotlight last night as the designated Republican to put forth a response to President Obama’s speech to Congress and the nation.  By all indications, he messed it up big time.

Conservative writer David Brook, had the following to say on Jindal’s performance last night.

“…to come up at this moment in history with a stale, “government is the problem…we can’t trust the government”…it’s just a disaster for the Republican Party. The country is in a panic, now. They may not like the way the Congress passed the stimulus bill. The idea that government is going to have no role in this…in a moment where only the Federal government is big enough to do stuff…to just ignore all that and say government’s the problem…corruption, earmarks, wasteful spending – it’s just a form of nihilism. It’s just not where the country is, it’s not where the future of the country is. There’s an intra-Republican debate: some people say the Republican party lost its way because it got too moderate, some people say they got too weird or too conservative. He thinks they got too moderate, and he’s making that case. I think it’s insane. I think it’s a disaster for the party. I just think it’s unfortunate right now.”

Bobby Jindal is one of the Republican party’s great hopes; part of a new young breed of conservatives along with the likes of Tim Pawlenty,  who is supposed to rescue the party from the decimation it has suffered over the last 8 years.  The Economist wrote of Jindal,

His ambition is well known, and most people think he is laying the groundwork for a run at the presidency in 2012.”

“Republican leaders will be watching closely to see if Mr Jindal, who a month ago marked his first year as the governor of one of America’s poorest and most troubled states, is the man they hope he is: the redeemer of their hard-pressed party.”

Well, based on his performance last night, Republicans had better keep looking.  Aside from Jindal’s poor oratorical performance last night, the content of his speech was flat and out of step with the times.  There was nothing I could pick up in what he said which would give anyone but the most fervent conservative, hope that the Republican party had any fresh ideas.  Repeating the same rhetoric of the past and promoting ideas which have failed would not seem to be the way to the future.

For the Republican party, it’s back to the drawing board.

    The great thing about Jindal coming off as badly as he did is that it helps pave the way for Sarah Palin. I want her to be the republican’s top candidate for the presidency in 2012. I’m so loving watching these guys sink deeper into oblivion with each passing day!

    You would all be wise to listen to Rush Limbaugh. He’s one of the few Americans left who really understand the inner working of this country.

    Nice that David Brooks has had an epiphany but it would have been nicer if he had spoken out against his fellow Republicans when it was full speed ahead in the direction of the ditch.

    Rush Limbaugh is a big, fat, pill-popping blow hard who can’t even begin to believe his own bile. He puts on a show for the ignorant and makes good money doing it without regard for the destructiveness his divisiveness causes. Anyone who says on the air that he hopes Obama fails given the unregulated mess Bush and the Republicans left for him to clean up is not much of an American in my book.

    Palin? You truly must have a death wish for this country. Why not Joe the Plumber or Bill the Bartender? How about Brenda the Beautician?

    You are free to regard Limbaugh as you do but he has a massive following because of his ability and fearlessness to cut through the BS and tell it like it is. What this country needs is a man of Limbaugh’s stature and talent to take charge of this country.

    As for Sarah Palin, the same logic applies. I suspect much of the criticism being directed at her has to do with the fear liberals feel in knowing that when she does run in 2012, your messiah is a cooked goose.

    Anyone with a grain of sense has seen what neoconservatives who don’t believe in government or regulation, who would let greed have it’s way with the rest of us, have done to this country by placing incompetents in positions of power and responsibility. Maybe you like your children to play with toxic toys and eat tainted peanut butter but I believe we can do better.

    No one calls Obama a messiah except Bushbots which is frankly more than a little ironic. I fear stupidity, stupidity and ideology at the controls. Just what we need in a time of crisis. That’s what I fear in Sarah Palin and that should in a logical world be a fear that crosses party lines.

    Go for it, run Palin in 2012. You betcha. She and her brood were such lucky charms in 2008, so well received, and Tina Fey does such a great impression. Actually, if you put Palin up next to Fey, Palin comes across as the more comic.

    Go to John Ziegler’s site ( http://www.howobamagotelected.com ) and view the clip of his documentary, “Media Malpractice”, and you might learn a thing or two. The media had double standards in how they dealt with Palin and Obama.

    The liberal media were in love with Obama from the beginning and handled him with kid gloves while they dug up whatever dirt they could on Palin. And when they couldn’t find any, they invented it.

    So don’t speak to me about incompetents in government when you have the least qualified person in the history of this country now occupying the oval office.

    First of all, John Ziegler is an obnoxious, vulgar died-in-the-wool conservative despite any claims he’s made to the contrary. Take a look at some clips from his old talk show days if you need proof. If you’ve gotten to hear him in any of the rounds of interviews he’s been giving to promote his propaganda documentary, you’d know he’s full of himself.

    Secondly, anyone who puts out a documentary or writes an article or book decrying the fact that poor Sarah was not responsible for the dismal performance she put on during the election campaign is living with blinders on. Palin was the only one responsible for how we all came to see and understand the person she was. No one put words in her mouth. She’s the one who came out with the idiotic responses she gave to the normal questions asked of her.

    I find it utterly amazing how delusional conservatives like yourself can be. Furthermore I find it sick that you would think that someone as remarkably unqualified as Palin should run for office or that you would think her better qualified than Obama. And for what reason? ‘Cause she calls herself a Republican.

    God, I’m happy you guys are going to be away from the levers of government for 8 years.
