Shame On Us, Shame On Us

Words http://mariopiperni.com/

.

I’m not a Mike Huckabee fan. While I can respect him as a man of devout Christian values, it leaves him in a position where one could easily doubt his ability to separate church and state. This country does not need another president who makes decisions based on what God told him the previous night.

All of that said, Huckabee is a thougthful and insightful man on many levels as he demonstrates here.

“When he [Barack Obama] was at Dover the other day, and went there to pay respect for soldiers, I heard a lot of people on the Right say “Aw, that’s just a cheap photo-op.” No, I think it was the Commander-in-Chief of our military paying respect to a dead soldier, and I’m grateful that he did that, and I was proud of him for doing that. And I think we all — as Americans — should give him credit for doing that.”

“When he and Michele hosted the tricker-treaters on Halloween, quit finding something wrong with that. Say “Good, I’m glad that he and the First Lady are treating children to an experience at the White House.” And I just find it deplorable that some people on my end of the aisle want to find everything wrong and nothing right about the man as a man.”

“I hated it when people did that to George Bush. They couldn’t even laugh at the man’s jokes they found something wrong with everything and if we do that to Barack Obama, then shame on us, shame on us. No wonder our country is so divided when that happens.”

Unfortunately for Huckabee, there are few people at his end of the aisle who would see it as he does. Republicans have made it painfully clear that the game plan is to take down Obama by not only obstructing every piece of legislation put forward by Dems but by also questioning the very legitimacy of his presidency.  And sadly, leading the concert is a right-wing media which abandoned honesty and integrity a long time ago.

I can hardly believe it. Good on you Mike! Unfortunately, his opinion is unpopular amongst his brethren but at least he spoke out!

  2. laurieD says:

I would hope there would be more of this type of language coming out of republican ranks. Someone needs to start toning down the hype and rhetoric and calm down the crazies.

  3. Donald says:

Screw Huckabee and his passive forgiving christian values. Reps are doing to BHO exactly what liberals did to Bush. If the muslim doesn’t like it then let him go back to Kenya.

  4. janine says:

    @Donald

wow, and here I was thinking that Huckabee was one Christian that was actually walking the talk and practicing Christian values…

  6. defolts says:

actually Bush got it going when he twisted Al Gores words to make him sound like a liar, find the link where he says he actually invented the internet, you can’t, never happened, then Bush deliberately went after groups and programs championed by democrats, he got a kick of his conventioneers wearing purple band aids to mock Kerry’s war service. because the conservative position has been let someone else fight our battles. Who said “I don’t think six weeks, certainly not six months…”? hint it was a member of the previous admin. then there is this

The democrats treated the republicans with much more respect, I wonder what exactly was being said about Bush in November of 2001 and who was saying, tell me how it is the same, offer real proof, how many democrats at this time were insulting the president in Congress at this time in 2001 or how many governors or party officials were in full attack mode by this time in 2001?

  7. PharmDude says:

While I appreciate Huckabee’s sentiments here, I would NEVER vote for the man. He’s an evolution denying, science hating, Chuck Norris supporting imbecile most of the time. As the proverbial saying goes… even a broken clock is right twice a day.

  8. Tennessean says:

“During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the internet.”

    http://www.snopes.com/quotes/internet.asp

Two things, the way he worded it, little wonder he got accused.

And if he had not been taken to task for it and everyone had simply believed he did indeed invent the internet, do you think he would have gone to any length to correct the erroneous assumption?

  9. Frances says:

It think it was high time for the pastor to scold the flock a bit. I will be interested to see what backlash he receives from people like Rush Limbaugh. If it’s harsh, I hope Huckabee supporters will generate a bit of their own backlash against Limbaugh.

TN, the actual erroneous assumption was not that Al Gore invented the internet, it’s that he intentionally tried to mislead people into thinking he had. People still believe that Al Gore claimed to have invented the internet, despite his efforts to clarify his statement. Why is that? Because they are stupid? Or because they are obstinate? You imply by your mythical scenario (where you wonder if Gore would have clarified his meaning if his statement hadn’t been called into question) that his intent was to mislead people. Why is that?

  10. Tennessean says:

Frances, I didn’t”imply” anything. I asked a question. Answer it as you will.

The only thing I “imply” is that because of his poorly worded statement, he created confusion. He did it. I didn’t do it. Al Gore, a prominent politician from my state, did it.

You guys want to blame everyone except the person that is responsible. In the end, who cares?? It’s already in the history books.

  11. SteaminJoe says:

Example of a wingnut brain in action.

“Frances, I didn’t imply anything” followed by “The only thing “I imply” is..”

  12. Tennessean says:

SteaminJoe, an example of a grammatically challenged liberal zealot with nothing to say.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quotation_mark

If you require further assistance, just ask.

(Aside to Frances. I know you don’t care, but see why these things annoy me?)

  13. Frances says:

I have to agree with Joe on this one.

What a coup TN. Since you want to be Mr. Grammar and Spelling, maybe someday I’ll explain to you the proper usage of “run” and “ran”. It’s petty to point out people’s grammar and spelling errors, don’t you think? You really shouldn’t throw stones.
