I’m not a Mike Huckabee fan. While I can respect him as a man of devout Christian values, it leaves him in a position where one could easily doubt his ability to separate church and state. This country does not need another president who makes decisions based on what God told him the previous night.
All of that said, Huckabee is a thougthful and insightful man on many levels as he demonstrates here.

Unfortunately for Huckabee, there are few people at his end of the aisle who would see it as he does. Republicans have made it painfully clear that the game plan is to take down Obama by not only obstructing every piece of legislation put forward by Dems but by also questioning the very legitimacy of his presidency. And sadly, leading the concert is a right-wing media which abandoned honesty and integrity a long time ago.

The Republican fratricide in the Nov. 3 special election in upstate New York may prove just an opening round of an even more spectacular bloodbath in Florida in 2010.
In New York, Republican feuding lost the party a seat in the House of Representatives. At stake in Florida is not only a senatorship — but very possibly Republican hopes for 2012 as well.
The battle in Florida pits Gov. Charlie Crist against former Speaker of the Florida House Marco Rubio. Both men claim to be conservative, pro-life, tax cutters. On the issues, they would seem to agree far more than they disagree.
But on one issue they have disagreed passionately: President Obama’s fiscal stimulus. Squeezed by his state’s desperate fiscal condition, Crist endorsed and campaigned for the Obama stimulus. Inspired by his conservative ideology, Rubio opposed stimulus.
Now Rubio is the darling of conservatives nationwide.
We have another situation here where conservatives find the Republican candidate, Crist, too moderate for their liking and are backing the more conservative Rubio. Rubio’s campaign is raking in money from around the country as conservatives rally behind their chosen one. Conservatives and Rubio have been relentless in their attacks on Crist’s acceptance of federal stimulus money.
But as Frum points out, Governor Crist is constitutionally bound to balance his state budget.
The final Obama plan granted Florida more than $15 billion over three years. That money averted radical cuts to schools and Medicaid. It saved the state from furloughing employees and raising taxes even higher. It has paid for emergency employment on roads and water projects. It has extended unemployment benefits for 700,000 Floridians — and put an extra $25 per week in their relief packets.
Every Republican governor has accepted stimulus money (except Palin and Sandford – both were on their way out). Frum asks…
Are all these Republican leaders, including such outstanding figures as Mitch Daniels of Indiana and Haley Barbour of Mississippi, now disqualified for future races?
The most telling of all comes via this anecdote.
A few days ago, I was talking to a roomful of young conservatives about the crisis. All agreed in denouncing both the bank bailouts done under TARP and the stimulus. I asked: OK fine — what was the alternative?
There was a short pause, and then somebody laughed: “I guess it’s lucky that we weren’t in power.”
That’s not much of a motto for a would-be national governing coalition. If all we conservatives have to offer is oppositionism, then opposition is the job we’ll be assigned to fill.
Indeed.

Dede Scozzafava, the Republican NY-23 candidate whose funding dried up after Sarah Palin and teabaggers endorsed the Conservative candidate, speaks out on her party’s fortunes.
“you have ideology that’s really not based on any sort of substance that can move an agenda forward, that can really help people in this country.”
“I don’t think it’s good for the health of our party. Any party that just tries to purge members that might have any sort of independent thinking, I think, eventually will run itself to very much of a minority status.”
I don’t think teabaggers are listening to Scozzafava. They’re currently working on defeating Charlie Crist in his attempt to win a Senate seat in Florida. There are also plans to run conservative candidates against any Republican they deem too moderate for their tastes.
From a Democratic perspective, Dick Armey and his teabagging FreedomWorks organization are doing them a big favor.

Now that the Republican candidate has withdrawn her candidacy from the NY-23 special election, it appears that the Conservative party candidate, Doug Hoffman, is primed to win. This is no surprise. The riding has voted Republican in 70 straight elections. What is hilarious is the person Hoffman sees as his mentor. Get a load of this bit of exchange between Glenn Beck and Hoffman.
HOFFMAN: I have good mentors here.
GLENN: Wait, wait. Wait, wait. Are they mentors that will show –
HOFFMAN: I’m talking about you, Glenn.
GLENN: Oh, okay. I was going to say all right, as long as they are standing out from the shadows. [...]
HOFFMAN: No. Yeah, well, I’m going to keep in touch with people like you so I don’t get infected with that disease.
Previously, Hoffman has told Beck that the Founding Fathers envisioned “people like you and me to stand up” and take control of government. When a person running for public office chooses a delusional madman like Glenn Beck as mentor, you know you’re scraping bottom as far as politicians go.
There’s a major push going on from the tea party crowd to push all moderates out of the Republican party. As Politico reports:
In the wake of conservatives’ role in forcing liberal Republican Dede Scozzafava out of Tuesday’s special election in New York’s 23rd District, GOP officials are trying to make it seem as if they are helping to stoke the passion — and can harness it to upend President Barack Obama and Democrats. They didn’t — and they can’t.
Many of the activists who helped knock out Scozzafava told POLITICO that the passion is building despite — and sometimes to spite — Republican leaders in Washington.
“I don’t give a crap about party,” said Jennifer Bernstone, a tea party organizer for Central New York 912, which helped to lead the anti-Scozzafava charge. “Grass-roots activists don’t care about party.”
Says Everett Wilkinson, a tea party organizer in Florida: “We are not going to allow our [movement] to be stolen by the GOP or by any political party.”
A FreedomWorks spokesperson notes:
“There are going to be other conflicts. We have a lot of work to do. The [Doug] Hoffman campaign was the beginning. It was not the climax.”
If FreedomWorks and other tea party organizations are successful in purging the GOP of all moderates, how will that affect Republicans from the standpoint of an ever diverse electorate?
Tom Davis, former head of the National Republican Congressional Committee, said this rage against the GOP machine might feel good for disgruntled conservatives, but it could also land Republicans deep in the minority for years to come.
“It becomes a challenge for Republicans to harness this energy in an appropriate fashion,” he said. “Part of the responsibility of the minority is to harness the energy against the majority.”
Still, he warned, load on too many conservatives, and they will “sink the boat.”
See? This is what happens when you allow your party to fall into the philosophical control of con-men like Limbaugh and Beck. While these two serial liars rake in the big bucks, the simpletons they preach to are doing the dirty work of ripping apart their own pathetic party…thread by thread.
Think train wreck.
