God and Health Care: Part 2

God Prayer Lightning Bolt http://mariopiperni.com/
.
Conservatives had a ‘prayercast’ a few days ago where they prayed for defeat of the health care bill. The meeting was attended by Republican Senators Jim DeMint and Sam Brownback and Rep. Michele Bachmann.

This will make your skin crawl.

Just imagine the above clip taking place in a Muslim nation and the language spoken being Arabic. Imagine Islamic politicians praying to Allah to intercede in a political battle with their government. Conservatives would be the first ones to criticize the theocratic approach of a backwards nation and compare it to the modern, sleek and civilized system of government in the United States.

Those were three members of Congress praying to their god to intercede in the health care debate and to side against the duly elected government of their own country. That was an elected politician crying out to god and declaring that the nation was at the “end of ourselves and now we need you.”

Every American who is not a religious fanatic, regardless of political orientation, should be deeply concerned.

It’s scary to think there are so many out there delusional enough to think that a sky fairy is concerned with a bill in Congress… let alone the day to day activities of the man on the street. Not to mention that His idea of a following are those who go and kill Arabs.

If these are the folks who make it to Heaven, no thanks… I’ll be spending my ever after with the FSM.

Everyone should be able to pray for whatever they want and to whomever they want. Even if it is absurd.

  5. Tennessean says:

I think the problem is your inability to understand people of faith. As with everything else that goes contradictory to your beliefs, you tend to disrespect and ridicule it.

People of faith routinely “pray” to God for guidance. I see nothing particularly wrong with that. Personally, I don’t think this looks so great for these guys on the surface. But I do understand and (perhaps with a certain degree of reticence, at least in this instance) respect their devotion to their faith, that they would seek divine guidance. And I doubt they are thinking of anything as overt as a flaming bush or anything. I think with people of “true” faith, they are hoping for some sort of subconscious guidance that brings them to the correct decision.

And I’m sorry. And unlike YOU guys, I know and admit I am wrong to feel this way. But anything showcased by this smug, arrogant, condescending excuse for a “news caster” immediately stokes my b.s. alarm. I just don’t like her.

(And she’ll probably take this as a compliment. But when I “visualize” Frances, Maddow could easily play her part in my mind.)

Anyway, it’s not necessarily something I would do or advise them to do. But I have no difficulty with them exercising the right to do so.

Come on. Admit it. You may be an avowed atheist, but you have wonderful children. Are you going to tell me if something is threatening them, you don’t cover the bases with a little under the breath, “Please God. Let them be alright.” just in case??

You may not think so or consider it as such, but that’s a prayer my friend.

And btw, if you are going to take issue with things this Pastor may have said or done in the past, remember this one and others similar:
