No doubt about it. The Republican Party has become a caricature of a political party. This gang of cartoon characters has now recycled one of the most despicable campaign ads ever run – the 1964 Daisy ad used by Lyndon Johnson in 1964. The original ad aired once and was immediately pulled after massive criticism of its fear-mongering theme. The now desperate Republicans, void of any semblance of common sense or ideas, has decided that fear is the only way it could possibly win.
In the middle or so, you’ll hear Press Secretary Robert Gibbs clipped in such a way that it appears he is saying that closing GITMO was a “hasty decision” the Obama administration made. Actually, Gibbs was referring to the poor decision-making of the previous administration. Another future-minded thing the RNC might want to focus on is not including such easily debunked content in their issue ads.
Sensible conservatives who calls themselves a Republican must surely be walking around these days with a paper bag over their head. When all you’ve got to sell is fear, you’ve got nothing.
Here’s the original Daisy ad.

The Daisy ad (the old one) is so well known for it’s fear-mongering that the only thing I can figure is that it was a undercover Obama supporter who produced the new one.
The RNC doesn’t really give a shit about “Safety”. I don’t think any of the RNC even believe the Gitmo detainees are even a threat. All they are concerned about is their Image. They must prove themselves to be in the “right” in order for the Party to be able to retain any kind of power and so succeed in future elections.
It’s too bad that the majority of the U.S. citizens, that side with the Republican party, are so easily mislead.
So, if you are saying the Republicans don’t believe the detainees are a threat and it’s all about image, what does it say that the Democrats won’t allow Obama to close Gitmo down?
Honestly, what kind of “Individual” can truly be comfortable with this kind of Government Oversight of our personal lives. (Like Napolitano “reminding” parents that they needed to be aware their children might be out of school (H1N1 Scare) so be sure to make arrangements so you kids won’t be aimlessly roaming the streets.)
I take it you’re referring to the fact the *budget* for closing gitmo was not passed in the Senate a few days ago? That was the *budget* the Prez wanted, not the actual Bill for closing gitmo. The Bill to close Gitmo has already been passed by the House and Senate.
FYI: there are many so called “Democrats” who put the Dem label on themselves so it is easier to get on the ballot in their Home State. They are elected, and when in office, vote along Republican lines. They will do anything to keep that cushy job in DC, with the pay raise every year, and that nice retirement package. (When I look at it from that point of view, I can’t say that I blame them. My own Congressman, Jim Matheson, is such a “Democrat”. He is a Republican in Democrat clothing.
Politics is an Art, or a Joke, depending on how you look at it.
BTW: There are Republicans out there that in Office that have done the same label switch from Republican to Democrat. Just so they can keep that cushy Job.
OMG, that ad!
Yes, fear is a powerful motivator, and the rest of us who don’t fall for it might end up paying a consequence because of those that do.

“Sensible conservatives who calls themselves a Republican…”
Sensible conservatives don’t necessarily identify with the “McCain” Republicans.
So, if you are saying the Republicans don’t believe the detainees are a threat and it’s all about image, what does it say that the Democrats won’t allow Obama to close Gitmo down?
If the Republican Party is the Party of “Fear”, would it be safe to say the Democratic Party is the Party of “Fantasy Land”?
