Politics – GOP Style

Barack Obama - Waterloo http://mariopiperni.com/

.

First it was Republican Senator Jim DeMint saying of President Obama and his health care reform plans,

“If we’re able to stop Obama on this, it will be his Waterloo. It will break him.”

Then Republican Senator James Inhofe spoke these words,

“I just hope the president keeps talking about it, keeps trying to rush it through. We can stall it. And that’s going to be a huge gain for those of us who want to turn this thing over in the 2010 election.”

There was further talk by Republicans this week that it was not necessary for them to propose an alternate health care plan. It was sufficient, they say, to block the Obama plan and nothing else.  It’s not about fixing health care for Republicans.  It’s only about regaining Congress in 2010 and the White House in 2012.  Any suffering out there because of the current state of health care is not even a secondary concern for these scum politicians; it’s no concern.

With 70% of the population saying that health care reform is necessary, I’d like to believe that this callous bunch of politicians will pay a heavy price in the upcoming elections.

Obama’s remark on all this?

“I don’t break.”

I’ve never despised repubs like I do now. After 2 terms of bush I thought that my distaste for their politics was maxed out. Watching them now trying to sow fear over health care while millions suffer with no or inadequate health care has taken me over the edge. Scum is the proper name for these people.

  2. ZIRGAR says:

The RepubliCons are truly despicable people. Truly despicable.

  3. Janet says:

I don’t think I can get any more disgusted then I am right now over the Republican hate fest of anyone not in their group against President Obama, but almost daily I have a new reason to feel this way. Not only will President Obama not break, the people that stand behind him will not break. We made it this far. We voted a man in office that so many never thought possible. So anyone against the President is against the common citizen that want him to stay right where he is. So long as he keeps on fighting for us, we that support him, will keep on fighting for him. So all those that want him to break, have only done well to fuel the fire of good people against their hatred.

Obama’s health plan will bring great purchasing power for the federal gov’t and will reduce pharmaceutical costs for the public good. There has to be reduced pharmaceutical patents so that the generic drug industry can catch up to the GlaxoKlines and pjohn. We cannot allow the insurace companies to control the health care market. The federal gov”t is better equipped to protect the people agaist CAPITALISIC DRUG COMPANIES AND ORGANISED MEDICINE. Let us unite in his social setting. Write your congress rep to keep the Obama plan on the right track.

I have a friend that read the 964 pages of the HC 3200 and he said that he could not understand why the republicans are making such a stink because it is not bad at all. I personally have not read it, but trust my friend’s judgment.

Maybe I can find it and skim through it as I did for the stimulus bill. But that was upseting. Too many loopholes.

So I will trust our Obama with this bill and in the meantime I will research further.

@mario piperni Illustration is an absolute wow!

  6. Tommy Pane says:

I’m amazed by the level of hate expressed toward haters. Do you think hating someone who hates will make them not hate? Liberals tend to think of themselves as enlightened, but I’m starting to see it as more of a feeling of superiority. You look down on anyone who doesn’t think like you.

Of course, conservatives do it too. It’s that old “morality” of the Right opposing the “compassion” of the Left. Neither of those qualities can be forced on anyone. As hard as you try to make the Right compassionate, the Right will push making you moral. Does it make you feel good to have them push morality on you? Why do you think pushing your concept of compassion on people will make them feel good?. Let it go already.

And the dirty little secret? Most liberals are moral, and most convervatives are compassionate.

  7. Sorry, Tommy, but there is just no comparison between Repubs who don’t care if people die just because they want to play politics with health care versus Democrats who are justifiably upset by so-called “moral” Repubs who are like Gov. Sanford and Sen. Ensign and the weirdos at C Street!!!! Plus, considering that the main spokesperson for the Repubs is a known drug addict and liar says something about which party has truly shown a caring for this country and it’s people and also happens to truly show “family values” far more than the Repubs! Even their candidate for the Presidency was a man who dumped his disabled wife after she waited for him to get out of a POW camp and he traded her for a younger woman! That is some family values! As far as I am concerned, Obama and his obvious love for Michelle and their two wonderful girls and a VP who worked so hard as much as possible to be home every night for his family says far more to me about which party stands for all the right things and gives us every reason to call the Repubs to account for their egregious behaviors! I may not use the word hate, but I will use words like disgust and a total lack of respect for their party and the low standard of decency they have. Now we need to show our appreciation to the Democrats who are willing to stand for progressive change by being proactive and showing Congress where we stand and by letting those who get in the was know that they may not keep their seat in Congress if they don’t get their act together!

  8. Tommy Pane says:

Can you say “John Edwards”. I’m sure on a tit-for-tat level, there are as many examples of morally flawed dems as repubs. To think that one party has an advantage over the other in that regard, is just a naive viewpoint. No disrespect intended.

  9. Jovial says:

    @Tommy Pane
Please get your facts straight. Hating people is not part of this gig. What I have read so far here is more hate of policy, inuendo, and untruths. Disagreeing with people is one thing but hating will never be part of my conversation. On the compassionate side, you have a poor child or grandmother coming to the hospital but have no insurance coverage. Is it compassionate or immoral not to give her treatment?

  10. mario says:

You are correct Tommy. Moral purity has no political affiliation. It crosses all lines of politics, religion, sex and color. The difference though is that there is one political party which has no problem preaching morality while conducting their personal lives in an immoral manner. They speak of family values to the masses while running off to Argentina to meet their mistress. They talk of the sinfulness of homosexuality while soliciting homosexual partners in public washrooms or setting up rendezvous with male prostitutes.

It is less the actions of Republicans which is abhorrent as much as their hypocrisy.

  11. Tommy Pane says:

@Mario – Don’t get me wrong, I’m not defending repubs. Both dems and repubs suck equally as far as I’m concerned. I’m saying that neither party holds the high road on either morality or compassion, and neither morality nor compassion can be forced. Both concepts are personal choices.

If you compassionately feed wild animals, and they lose their ability to forage for themselves, how compassionate are you?

@Jovial – No one, to my knowledge (and please correct me if I’m wrong), is turned away from an emergency ward for lack of ability to pay. Medicaid and Medicare were established for that reason. Our country is one grounded in a sense of compassion that prevents most people from turning their back when face-to-face with someone in need. Disconnected insurance company bureaucrats however, often make life and death treatment decisions without compassion because they’re thinking of their own situation. If they make a decision that doesn’t follow a company policy, they’ll lose their job.

Now, let me ask you, what’s the difference between an insurance company bureaucrat and a government bureaucrat? In my opinion, nothing. They’ll both make the same decision base on “company” policy.

With the private sector involved in health care, working with profit as their motivation, we have medical centers everywhere and the highest quality of medical care in the world. If profit is removed completely, who will build and maintain the medical centers? If there are fewer centers, will our access to medical care suffer? Will a compassionate bureaucrat make a decision based on a new found need for quotas that leaves someone without life saving treatment? Is that a morally correct decision? These are the questions that rational people want answered before we jump into something just because it sounds compassionate.

  12. Jovial says:

    @Tommy Pane

You say: No one, to my knowledge (and please correct me if I’m wrong), is turned away from an emergency ward for lack of ability to pay. My question is : Why is President Obama concerned that millions are not covered ? Does this mean then that anyone of these millions can go to any hospital and be served and looked after without document of insurance? It does not seem evident to me right now

You ask: what’s the difference between an insurance company bureaucrat and a government bureaucrat? An insurance bureaucrat will ultimately answer to high management which in our capitalistic system is highly motivated by profit. More profit,he stays. A government bureaucrat answers ultimately to an elected Republican or Democrat and when things fails along the way, election is the people’s ability to get him out. Don’t forget: A government for the people. Never heard of companies having the same slogan. More than naught : Screw the people. Pharmaceuticals with their patents are a prime example.

Is there a perfect system. No I guess not. We need a paradigm shift in the USA health system. A doctor’s duty is to extend life. Hospital bureaucrats will need to be linked to the same philosophy as doctors. They will need to better manage their purchases and link to a federal government department that will yield the greatest purchasing power that pharmaceuticals and subordinate industries will need to cater and then bring down their prices. The USA is in disarray because medicine is so expensive and noone is out there controlling it. We need to give Obama a chance and he needs to better explain the plan

  13. Tommy Pane says:

Agreed. A better system can, and should be developed. Lets give it more time for serious discussion, leaving out the barbs from both sides.

  14. Randi says:

@Tommy Pane, Bravo for listening to both sides. And your right barbs should be left out. Don’t forget many insurance comapnies turn down treatments after people have paid their premiums for years, why? profit. Serious discussion is needed, time we don’t have. People are frustrated because Republicans aren’t discussing, they just want to crush Obama. I love a two(or 3) party system because I hope two differing minds will come to the best conclusion, but right now the Republicans refuse to come to the table.

  1. [...] The health bill will obviously not be passed before the August recess as Obama had hoped.  What I find amazingly dumb is that some of these Blue Dogs still believe that a bipartisan bill can be passed.  What is it that they don’t get?  Republicans have been honest in one department; they don’t want any type of health care bill passed under any circumstances.  Their plan is to delay passage of the bill and have this issue become Obama’s Waterloo.
