More reason (in case you needed it) why you should hope that Newt Gingrich never again holds political power.
The fact is we are faced with an enemy, driven by religion. The extremist wing of Islam. A minority but nonetheless definable. We should be honest about this. We should target the people who are engaged in that community.
And the politicizing of terrorism continues unabated. Gingrich’s tweets.
It is outrageous that government failure and incompetence on terrorism will now harm every innocent person trying to fly
It is time to go to profiling of dangerous people instead of harassing and retsricting the innocent
We need a new policy of systematically going after terrorists that involves explicit profiling and explicit discrimination for behavior
President Obama does not realise the “systemic failure” he described in the terrorist airliner threat is his administrations policies
They know no shame.

And the terrorists have birthed yet another McCarthy era. “Have you now or have you ever been associated with Islam?” Said the nation “founded” on Christianity.
Terrorist attacks on planes are so rare, you’d have a FAR better chance of becoming a victim of a lightning strike or winning the lottery. Maybe the airlines could encourage flyers by handing out a lottery ticket as you board.
Janine, I would put him on a no-speak list. Mario is really right. I am not doing this as right wing bashing – I have seen Newt make snide remarks, but these tweets expose him to be such a low life, one shudders seeing his kind anywhere in the line for The Top Job.
A few years ago, Newt was deemed too snarky and mean spirited to regain office…..now, his persona fits perfectly for the Republican public front. I think he will be embraced by the elephant in the room this time.
People who support profiling confuse me. Are they going to ask us before we board a plane what religion we believe in? Or are they merely going to search us based upon the color of our skin? Or maybe what country we were born in? Or what countries we have traveled to recently? Or what books we have checked out of the library (showing my age) or web-sites we have visited. Or are we just going to use the old “I’ll know one when I see one” standard?
Soon we would be having the Salem witch hunt all over again.
In a police state, people are very well behaved. In a police state, every facet of peoples’ lives can be monitored and acts of terrorism or any disorderly conduct whatsoever can be prevented. Wouldn’t America be a better place in a police state?
