Therein lies the danger (and brilliance) in repeating a lie enough times. There are enough out there who will choose to believe whatever fits in to their set beliefs. The GOP way.
The last President proved repeatedly that if you repeat the same lie enough times, most people will believe it. How many people still think Saddam Hussein attacked us on 9/11?
First, let me say I am of the party that does not believe the “Birther” controversies. Although I’m down with Dobb’s position and that is my only question about it. This could so easily be put to rest so my only question is, why doesn’t he do that? I know, I know. All of you will say he has. (He really hasn’t.) And no matter what he does, it won’t be good enough. (I say, “Try it.”) But most of you believe it is simply race driven and you won’t accept that any questioning may be legitimate.
So again, let me repeat. I do not buy into the “Birther” Conspiracies but I fail to understand why he doesn’t lay the issue to rest, at least for the few reasonable people that may be in that crowd.
But with that said, here is a quote from that Darling of Liberals the world over, ‘Bill O’Reilly’. This is something I have often thought and for the most part, find to be disappointingly true:
“The far left ignorance meter is simply driven by ideology. If you disagree with their polices, you’re a moron. Some on the right do that as well.”
Now, before all of you go on attack mode, I would simply ask you to take a few moments and peruse a cross section of comments on this blog and then evaluate the responses to those that do not fall in line with Liberal Ideology. Just recently, you have had a person (Tommy) very calmly, intelligently and reasonably articulate some Conservative viewpoints on here and he has been pretty roundly disparaged, if not outright attacked and not always in a very nice manner.
Anyway, it would be nice to see all of us move away from the position that, if you don’t agree with me, you are a “moron”, “insane”, “dangerous”, “liar” on and on and on and on………..
What else are they going to throw at Obama…..let me guess he’s an alien from another planet. This is beyond ridiculous. They believe this because they can’t “hang” anything else on him at the moment and they are hate-filled angry people. This is their cover for what I’m sure is some covert racism as well.
Crackpot, racist, and nationalist ideals have festered in GOP for over 20 years now…..growing like a cancer…..hate and fear motivate so many of them now. Such fear will be the ruin of America if we — all Americans — let it fester and continue. It’s got to be stopped.
They are just sore losers. They just can’t stand the fact that they are not in charge anymore. Get over it! Obama is in and your man is out– move on & get a life!!! They are still insisting on this one, they want evidence. (more?)….but nobody asked bush to prove he’s smarter than a fifth grader. The supreme court has already weighed in on this issue, and they threw the stupidity out of court. Why isn’t that mentioned each time they repeat their lies?
Hawaii officials have stated birth cert is true and correct. So since it has been proven to be true and correct, thus a fact, why prove a fact again? Certainly the Clinton camp would have pounced on this like a duck on a june bug if there were any credence.
I further don’t understand saying you don’t believe the birthers but agree with producing the cert. Seems contradictory to me, but that’s just my opinion.
I think whipping out the birth cert and slapping it on the table only says President Obama takes the birthers position seriously. Why give misguided individuals the appearance their invalid position has any validity, it only encourages the misguided behavior and will only result in birthers yelling louder about birth cert conspiracies etc. It’s like telling a 2 year old he’s in charge of his daily routine. Just gonna be a cluster.
Having said all this, I think its important to have well rounded discussions in this comment section and we would not be able to do that without those who possess differing view points. I, for one, learn a lot by reading everyone’s comments be they liberal, conservative or fundamental. I’m not going to buy into the ‘conventional wisdom’ that people of differing ideologies cannot talk to one another in a civil manner.
Janine, Thank you. I don’t think I’m being contradictory at all. If it were only me, I’d be satisfied and I am. But many are still clamoring and I just simply am of the opinion the path of least resistance would be to produce it (whatever it is) and then wait for whatever comes next. He asked for the job. You have to take the good along with the bad.
Maxene, to sum it up, you think everyone that is not of the preferred ideology are “crackpot”, “racist”, “sore losers”. Okay. Got it now.
Bill O’Reilly thanks you for making him look very intelligent.
My friend was born in Hawaii and his records are the same as Obama’s. These people(?) need to take off their tin foil hats, turn off FOX NOISE, and go outside to find out what is really going on. Just a thought here, you think it’s because less than half of the Republicans know Hawaii is part of the United States?
All kidding aside, and yes, I WAS kidding. I find it ironic that so many Republicans – supposedly the party that represents states rights – are willing to dismiss the “prima facie” piece of evidence that is the Certificate of Live Birth issued by the sovereign state of Hawaii. If it were up to them, the federal government would force Hawaii to overturn their laws in order to reveal the original birth certificate, which no longer exists since the state opted to digitize records back in 2001. Much like the Terri Schaivo case, the GOP reveals its hypocrisy. They only support the rule of law when it works in their favor
@Hank, I never addressed any comments to you. You were in a dialogue with janine. At no point did I mention you name.
So why then do you sum up your argument and address it towards me?
“Maxene, to sum it up, you think everyone that is not of the preferred ideology are “crackpot”, “racist”, “sore losers”. Okay. Got it now.”
You know @Hank. You’ve heard the expression. “When you ASS U ME you make an ASS of U and Me. Well you did just that. I don’t appreciate it and you happen to be wrong. I never said what you claim I said, so kindly refrain from telling me what I feel and what I meant. Thanks, I appreciate it. Now kindly re-read what you think I said, and you will see that I said this behavior is spreading, not that all GOP”S were. I accept your apology in advance.
Maxene, you are wrong across the board. And this is ridiculous. ButI posted a comment, then you posted and next, Janine. When I came back to the computer, I responded to both your comments at the same time. And I didn’t sum up MY arguement, I was attempting to sum up yours as I understood it.
And in my opinion, when you use “They” over and over in your response, that is pretty inclusive.
As for an apology, as we seem to be in “Axiom Education Mode”, I’m sure you’ve heard the expression “Cold day in hell” and that is what you will be waiting on.
@Hank,you used the words “as I understood it”, That just about sums it up. AS YOU understood it, not necessarily as I meant it. If you don’t understand, you should ask.
Also, why do you feel I was referring to you when I used the term ‘they’. Are you one of the ‘they’? I think you doth protest too much.
Oh and Hank, you may be working on your “Axiom Education Mode”, do not speak for me. I would like to think of myself of being of an open mind and willing and ready to attempt to learn and understand different points of view and not feel, that mine is an absolute. You are of the opinion that everyone is as closed minded, and set in their ways as you are, and that simply is wrong. Yes, this indeed is ridiculous, so, in the future please understand if I make reference to you or am specifically addressing my statements toward you I will use @Hank.
Now, if you think I truly expected, needed or even wanted an apology from you, then you are not as smart as I originally thought you were. “cold day in hell” my ass.
I am finished discussing this or any other issue with you at this time or ever frankly. You were quite nasty to me with the above remark, and I don’t care to have any further dialogue with you. Now you can take your nasty remark re “cold day in hell” and put it where the sun don’t shine.
Please don’t expect any comment from me about this issue now or in the future, no matter what your negative nasty response may be.
I’m not sure why I even try. There appears to be some obvious issues going on here. But, brushing your personal insults aside:
From Webster’s:
“they”: 2. “people”; used in a generic sense. The plural pronouns have also been put to use as pronouns of indefinite number… That’s how I understood it. If you think that’s stupid, I would refer you to the earlier O’Reilly quote.
“Axiom Education Mode”: Joke….maybe lame…but joke just the same. Since you took it upon yourself to “educate” me about the axiom concerning the word “assume” I just figured I would return the favor with informing you of the axiom “cold day in hell” as it might apply to any apology you might wish from me, whether jokingly or seriously. If you didn’t get my attempt at humor, I regret it, but would stop short of apologizing.
And I close by saying if you perceived “nasty” in my comment, (since I disturbed you with MY axiom earlier, I won’t bother with any axioms concerning pots and kettles) perhaps the difficulty is your perception, not my delivery.
And once again, you have turned a discussion of interest into a discussion about “self”.
“And once again, you have turned a discussion of interest into a discussion about “self”.
I’m sorry you are having a bad day.”
Well, there you go again, Hank. Why don’t you just give it a rest. Calm down. You’ve got your panties tied up in a knot. Maybe take a tranquilizer. Have a nice glass of wine to wash it down. You will feel batter, I assure you. I will wait.
Okay, that’s a boy.
Feel better? Good! Now that you are calm I will spell this out for you. Try to follow along.
1. I was having a very good day actually, and still am, and I intend to have a wonderful evening, so please don’t be sorry about that.
2.YOU turned this discussion toward me by invoking my name where it was totally out of place and uncalled for
3. I don’t require lessons in grammar or semantics, or axioms. I could teach you a couple of things. Oh right, you said I was stupid. How silly of me.
4.My only issue is your insults(I didn’t call you names, why did you call me names)You turned this discussion around, not I. Will you please just stop?. I asked you to stop before. I said I would, but you just had to say something. You are sounding more and more like a 12 year old child.
5.You not only tried to insult me personally with your cold day in hell remark, but earlier with that horrible O’Reilly reference, which I initially let pass, but since you brought it up, I’m throwing it back at you.
6.You tell lousy jokes and it most certainly is YOUR delivery. Your material sucks as well. So don’t give up your day job, son.
7. Leave me the hell alone. Enough. You have insulted me enough for one day. I don’t like you and you show me no respect. You are no gentleman.
8. Every line in the above statement is an attempt to insult me, insinuating that I am stupid.
9.Well, Mr. I am not stupid, nor am I insulted.
10. Sorry, you attempted it. You have not succeeded. Waste of your time. It takes a lot more than the likes of you to upset me, but thanks for trying.
11.You have though, disturbed (you should like that<) me since you are a creepy little pest.(I think you will not like that <)
12. Kindly take a hike
13. NOW
14. Follow my suggestion in my last post, you just may like it ;)
:D
15.Now I am out for the evening. Don’t miss me too much.
Wow!!! I think she’s likes me. (That’s another of my pathetic attempts at a joke!)
2. I only indicated I was responding to something you said.
3. I neither insulted you nor called you a name.
5. The O’Reilly quote I thought was pertinent to the derogatory comments and demeaning things said about Conservatives and/or Republicans. It was not directed at anyone in particular. Just a general comment.
6. At least I can recognize a joke. And please, never refer to me as “son”. Not only is it a derogatory comment, unless you’re about 80, it wouldn’t be possible and certainly not desirable. I suppose for either of us.
7. Again, I have neither insulted nor disrespected you and I find it appalling you would misrepresent my words as such.
8., 9., 10., and 11. (In seriatim) No; I don’t know; No; and No.
Hmmmmm….Tranquilizer and a glass of wine…..maybe that explains it.
This is certainly not the place for such exchanges. Please endeavor to restrain. I will. The court is yours.
Then Republican Ohio Senator George Voinovich had it right when he said the party was being taken over by southerners going on TV and saying errrrr..
We now have statistical proof that conservatism equals stupidity.
@Robby My first reaction is to think you’re exaggerating. But on further thought, you’re right. How else does one interpret the numbers?
First, let me say I am of the party that does not believe the “Birther” controversies. Although I’m down with Dobb’s position and that is my only question about it.
