Saxby Chambliss, the Republican Senator from Georgia, thinks that President Obama should pay heed to the town hallers.
“What you’re seeing is folks on my side anxious to see what the president has to say tomorrow night. I think he’s gonna have to express some humility based on what we’ve seen around the country this August and that’s not his inclination.”
Hmmm. I wonder if that should be the same degree of humility shown by President Bush when his poll numbers headed south (23% approval rating) and somehow still found it appropriate to keep that jackass smirk plastered across his face as he screwed the country for the umpteenth time.
Yeah sure, President Obama should express humility toward a bunch of loudmouth lunatics who had no idea what the health care bills contained. Where do Republicans find these hypocritical sleazebags they elect to Congress?

President Obama can’t win with these guys. Look, I come from a long line of wingnuts & trust me, if I can’t get through a Thanksgiving meal without problems, he can’t win over the Republicans. They are basically saying Obama had some sort of hidden agenda with his speech to the school kids. Well, like the birth certificate, this too will never die out. I read someone’s comment yesterday when I asked someone where her proof of this “agenda” was and she said, “By now, it’s been burnt & tossed out.” I can provide mountains of proof to my birther sister of Obama’s citizenship, and as intelligent as she is, her common sense has left the building. Now, they want humility. If President Obama shows any sign of sudden humility, they will surely say, “You see, he knows he’s wrong!” I was all for his attempts at a bipartisan gov’t, but no more. It’s different now. They’ve already broken all the rules.
What an incredibly ignorant and arrogant statement. Now, people that have exercised their Constitutional Rights of Freedom of Assembly, Freedom of Speech and Right to Protest are “a bunch of loudmouth lunatics who had no idea what the health care bills contained.” (Along with Nazis, Un-American, Astro Turfers, Evil Mongers on and on.) Much to their chagrin, what these people that have suffered insult from their representatives in Government and insufferable boors on blogs are first and foremost, is VOTERS.
I wonder if there were a few “Marios” back then to say the same of people like Franklin, Washington, Adams, Jefferson, Jay, Madison, and Hamilton. You want every one to just shut up and agree….and why? Just because YOU think you know what’s best for us? For ME? Friggin’ puhleeze!!!!
Did it ever occur to you just how wrong you are? That precisely the opposite of this is true? That they have informed themselves and are concerned about what they understand the effort to mean?
Probably not. You’re obviously still too eaten up with your hatred of Bush. My advice to you my friend is to let go of the past and concentrate on the present and future.
We need and want Health Care Reform. We do not want a Government controlled system. We do not want higher, MORE oppressive taxes. We do not want the quality of the care we now receive to be negatively impacted. We do not want our tax money used to pay for revolving door, on demand abortions. We want those truly needy to be helped. We want the real issues of Health Care to be addressed.
We do not want President Obama, Nancy Pelosi, Barney Frank (and if it makes you feel better, George Bush and Dick Cheney) and the cast of characters that have bankrupted the Nation, Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid taking charge of our Health Care.
If you don’t or can’t understand that, then it should give one pause to wonder just who the “loudmouth lunatic(s)” really is.
Yes we need and want H/C reform but the “we” does not include Republicans. There is no possible plan which could be proposed by Democrats which would be acceptable to repubs. Believing otherwise is to show yourself to be naive or stupid.
And Larry, you show your ignorance once more by bringing up abortion. It is not part of the reform proposals. You have just proved yourself to be one of those “loudmouth lunatics” who is plainly uninformed.
Zenith, you took the words out of my mouth. How ironic that someone would defend townhallers as informed and then he brings up abortion on demand as if it’s part of the reform package. Typical idiocy.
“As for the House bill as it stands now, it’s a matter of fact that it would allow both a “public plan” and newly subsidized private plans to cover all abortions.”
For all of you reading this exchange, this is a perfect example of why these discussions and debates have become so charged. You want to discredit all opposition and will stoop to any measure in a frantic and hysterical effort to accomplish that.
For some reason, you guys seem to think you are the only ones capable of understanding the issues of today and the rest of should just keep quiet and bow to your superior intellect. And it infuriates you when we don’t play along.
@nora – See my response to zenith and you may just want to consider putting those words back in your mouth.
I have taken what information I have received. Researched it and come up with what appears to be the truth. Is that what you call “idiocy”?
And you align yourself with the arrogant and pompous when you refer to American Citizens exercising their Constitutional Rights in the disparaging manner you have used in your comment.
“The truth is that bills now before Congress don’t require federal money to be used for supporting abortion coverage. So the president is right to that limited extent. But it’s equally true that House and Senate legislation would allow a new “public” insurance plan to cover abortions, despite language added to the House bill that technically forbids using public funds to pay for them.”
CLAIM: In asserting that health care reform would cause the government to pay for abortions, conservatives are simply trying to block possible federal funding for the procedure.
* Several media outlets — including CBS, ABC, the Cleveland Plain Dealer, and the Los Angeles Times — have purported to fact-check claims about government funding for abortion under health care reform but have ignored the fact that abortion rights opponents’ proposed legislative solution to the issue would effectively eliminate abortion coverage from the private individual insurance market and would effectively strip abortion coverage from some who currently have it.
REALITY: Anti-abortion proposal would effectively ban abortion coverage for those participating in the exchange — including for those who have such coverage now. A failed amendment to the House bill offered by Reps. Bart Stupak (D-MI) and Joe Pitts (R-PA) would effectively bar insurance companies from offering plans through the health insurance exchange that cover abortion. As Media Matters documented, such a provision — if implemented as part of the current House health care reform bill — would effectively cause a number of people who currently have abortion coverage to lose that coverage.
Thank you Larry for proving my point. President Obama can’t win with the Republicans. They will block every move he makes, no matter what. So, forget bipartisan. The only thing left of their party are the fringe few and you just can’t reason with them. Oddly, when I mentioned my wingnut family background, my brother’s name is “Larry”. Wouldn’t it be odd, if you were….nah! It can’t be!Nooo!
And Larry, we need Media Matters to fact check all of the lies from Hannity, et al. We shouldn’t have to check their every word.
@all smug know-it-alls – (I leave it to you to determine if you fit in that category.)
While you’re so busy telling me what you think you know about what I want re: Health Car Reform, let me tell you what it is I want.
I pay less than $5000 per year for my health care coverage. In return, I think I receive the best health care, on average, available in the world. Of course, I would like to see my premiums reduced so long as the quality of care I receive is not negatively impacted.
I do not want my taxes raised significantly to furnish insurance to people that simply choose to spend their resources in ways less responsible. I want to be able to go to the doctor and hospital of my choice. I do not want the quality of my health care services diminished in any way.
I do not want the Government involved in my Health Care Service or decisions in any shape form or fashion that is not absolutely necessary. I would like to see some form of Tort Reform understanding, as it has been misleadingly noted here that tort reform only addresses a small portion of the overall cost. It is the defensive procedures doctors are forced to practice that drive the significant increases brought about by out of control lawsuits.
I want to see the Insurance Markets opened up to promote competitve pricing. I want to see some sort of “Assigned Risk” Pool created for the truly “Uninsurable” or those with extreme pre-existing conditions, much like the assigned risk pool for driver’s. Each insurance company has to take a turn at these individuals. I want to see those that are truly needy have some options that the compassionate citizenry of this nation will willing and enthusiastically support. I DO NOT want to subsidize those people who simply exercise irresponsible judgment.
This is a partial list of things I would like to see addressed in MY version of “Health Care Reform”. I want my Congressmen and women and my President to sit down and discuss these things and come up with reform that addresses these needs. Not another government entitlement program that will further bankrupt the nation while purchasing votes from those who have no investment beyond their existence and residence in this country.
And until they do, well, I guess I’ll just be one of those “loudmouth lunatics” screaming at the top of my lungs to keep Barney, Nancy, Al and bunch out of my health care.

mediamatters explains the abortion proposal.

@zenith et.al – It’s in black and white, and you still dispute it. Oh well.
Mario put it well and it applies to people like you as well as he feels it applies to Conservatives:
“They make stuff up and when their nonsense doesn’t pan out…..”
and:
“Sad to say but it’s a complete waste of time trying to debate these people.”
And “Media Matters” is a liberal’s version of Beck or Hannity.
@laurie d. – I’m not sure what point you are attempting to make. Did you read this information?
Did you see the part where it says, “A FAILED amendment to the House bill…” (emphasis mine)
You guys really need to try to better inform yourselves! ;-)
