If a mosque was willing to publicly renounce the Koran and its 109 verses that call for the death of infidels, renounce Allah and his messenger Mohammed, publicly condemn Osama bin Laden, Hamas, and Abdelbaset al Megrahi (the Lockerbie bomber), maybe then they could be allowed to build their buildings. But then they wouldn’t be Muslims at that point, now would they?
Unlike the Bible, I imagine, which only preaches death to infidels, sinners, homosexuals, women and others.

I could go on here for another page and a half but I believe I have made my point. If there is a God, be he Christian, Muslim or Jewish, and if he is as depicted in the holy books of these religions, then he does appear to be a most treacherous individual.
Justifying hate and intolerance toward Muslims based on 109 verses of the Koran is no different then hating Christians based on 109 verses of the Bible. If one is justifiable, then so is the other. And if so, then let’s turn the clocks back a thousand years and have Christians and Muslims kill each other on the battlefield of sanctimonious hypocrisy.
We’ll call the war, My Murderous God Is Better Than Your Murderous God and to the victor goes the right to build churches or mosques wherever the hell they damn please.

Is the Old Testament not a part of the Bible or do we simply dismiss the parts that we don’t find appealing? Also, the New Testament is clear that Jesus agreed with the prophets.

There are literally hundreds of similar verses. Whether in the Old or New, death and suffering appears to be a running theme.
All believers are hypocrites because they pick and choose what parts of their bible they will follow,and than listen to their excuses why they only follow those parts that they FEEL are correct
The Bible continues to be dwindled down, removing the parts that are out of touch with present day. Most sane Christians are finally acknowledging the story of Noah’s Ark probably didn’t happen. Year-by-year more stories will be discredited.
The next generation can then say the parts removed aren’t what Christians truly believe. How long until there are only a few sentences left in the New Testament? 50 years? 100 years?
Joe, Mario didn’t do anything the fundies do nearly every time they drag out their arguments about issues, whether it’s homosexuality, marriage, other religions (I’m thinking specifically about Wicca here); they’re most often quoting the OT, usually Deuteronomy or Leviticus. Most of the times I hear the NT mentioned, it’s from the writings attributed to Saul of Tarsus/Paul. I often wondered, even when I was still a practicing Catholic, why the words of a man who not only never met Jesus but also never met anyone who knew him personally carry as much weight as the words attributed to the Christ himself. Most Christian denominations should call themselves Paulist instead.
When I was a child in a Catholic school, I was a voracious reader, and I ended up reading a lot of parts of the bible they didn’t assign in class. When I started asking awkward questions, I got punished and told that those were things I “didn’t have to know”. What I read in the Bible, genocides, murders, infanticides, war and gore, scared the crap out of me but didn’t put the fear of god into me.
When the fundies start quoting the words of Jesus from the gospels to support their oppressive views, maybe that will be time to take them as more than buffoons puffed up with their religiosity. Mario has demonstrated he can quote the NT; the people you need to advise on their Bible reading are Bryan Fisher, James Dobson, Pat Robertson, the Wildmons, Andy Schlafly, Fred Phelps and his family, etc., etc., etc. Tell them to do the same.

Responding to broncobilly isn’t sporting. It’s not fair battling wits with an unarmed opponent.
Its really quite simple. When we invented WORDS then we invented the ability to LIE to children. Children are totally defenseless and will speak whatever languages, salute whatever flags and worship whatever stone gods they are told to by the lying preachers, teachers, parents, police and rulers of the slave empire.
Unfortunately, religions are lies made of mere words that must be enforced using promises of ”heaven”, threats of ”hell”, at the point of a sword, or a gun, and by corrupting children into enforcing the religions to save their souls. Since religions can not be defended using intelligence, thus cursing, condemning, outcasting and hating is the only way, thus creating the fear and the hate for non believers, both foreign and domestic, and resulting in the murders, and the deaths of all intelligent Life in your towns and overseas.
Because religions are lies made of mere words, BOTH the truth that created the fragile Life on earth, and also the lies of other religious cults, are BOTH the mortal enemy of every religion, and so, religions will teach your children to HATE what God Created on earth and to enforce and defend the lies that keep the religions, and their national armies of cannibals, in power over their slave population.
Warn your children. Tell them how the lies of religions and their nations has have divided the world and someday these invisible borders can be remved from our planet and Living Things allowed to return to evolving.

Yes, you can quote any verses and pull them out of context and served to prove a point. If i pulled out just the part of Old Yeller where they shoot the dog, i can say “Hey this book supports shooting and killing dogs!!” But that would be wrong now, wouldnt it? It’s a story and you have to read and look at the whole book to understand the truth it is trying to portray.
I fell into your trap of engaging in this debate that has gone on for decades. Too each his own with their beliefs and faith. Yes, there are some that will damn you to hell for your “wrong” beliefs, just like they do the same to me now for my beliefs. Do i think your wrong, yes. Do you think im wrong yes. I can pray for you to see the Truth (which is my Truth) and you can pray for me to see your truth (if that is what you do is pray).
In the end I don’t judge you, it is not my place to judge at least that is what im taught in my faith. I respect you as a human being, knowing that I am just like you, a sinner. If i see you walking down the street i will shake your hand and treat you just like i treat the people i know in my faith. Because in the end, deep down, we are the same.
I dont quote the Koran because I have no desire to read it. I have my Truth and faith. With that thought I dont ram it down others throats. My personal opinion; If you are trying to convert people to your “beliefs” I would stay away from this tactic of quoting verses and in trying to prove everybody wrong. People have done it for decades and it gets them no where besides a pissing match like you see in the comments. let’s see your beliefs in the way that you live. Your life is the example. Because right now with this post i have no desire to learn what you believe.

@Joe I am not arguing that the Bible does not preach love and compassion. It does. But it is undeniable that it also speaks of ruthless killing of men, woman and children. Explain to me if you can how “And if they give birth, I will slaughter their beloved children.“ sounds better in any interpretation of context. And besides, the quote was given in context. You may find the killing justified in an ‘end justifies the means’ type of argument but then I would say to you that the Taliban that stoned to death an adulterous woman this past week could justify their brutal act of inhumanity in the exact same way. Killing innocent people in the name of your God or the Islamic Allah is wrong. Period.

Would you like me to cite examples of the tens of millions who have been murdered in the name of Christianity?
I can give you stuff from Pope Urban II’s 11th century decree to take back the Holy Lands which resulted in the 1st Crusade and the subsequent killing of millions of Muslims to the murder of abortion doctor George Tiller last year at the hands of a Christian fanatic who was influenced by evangelist Pat Robertson. Personally, I think blowing themselves up has more to do with territory than religion. They just use religion as the excuse because it’s tied in with their ruling class-political system. I believe that if we would militarily leave their countries, they would stop blowing themselves up.

One thing you got right: Religion is an excuse.
Killing people in any way whether on the gas chamber or whether with a lethal injection is all wrong. Killing people because of religious believes is wrong.
Don’t believe in the death penalty, or any of the above mentioned. Two wrongs never make it right. If someone kills someone else, it is either in self-defense or because they are mentally ill. They should be put in a sanitarium, not jail.
