Anytime a conservative speaks a truth critical of the Republican Party, no matter how obvious that truth is to non-conservatives, it’s news. Why? Because it’s so damn rare.
Colin Powell’s former chief of staff, retired Army Col. Lawrence Wilkerson, reacts to Romney hitman and all around prick, John Sununu, who suggested that Colin Powell’s endorsement of Barack Obama was motivated by race.
My party, unfortunately, is the bastion of those people — not all of them, but most of them — who are still basing their positions on race. Let me just be candid: My party is full of racists, and the real reason a considerable portion of my party wants President Obama out of the White House has nothing to do with the content of his character, nothing to do with his competence as commander-in-chief and president, and everything to do with the color of his skin, and that’s despicable.
Don’t expect Wilkerson to be invited to any RNC parties any time soon, or ever. Truth is not something Republicans handle all that well.
I read that article this morning in the Huffington-Post and could hardly believe my eyes. You are so right, Mario, it is so damn rare — in fact, until these candid comments, I don’t EVER remember a Republican making such an honest and true statement. I don’t understand why such a decent man would even want to remain a Republican when he’s obviously opposed to such rampant “despicable” bias.
It infuriates me is that Sununu is such a hypocrite. He is Cubano born in Havana. Many Cubanos are of African descent. Sununu may very well have blood ties to African ancestors. How can this man say those things. There is no soul.
I saw Col. Wilkerson say that yesterday. He prefaced it with saying that his old boss, General Powell, hired him as his Chief of Staff and looked at qualifications, etc., rather than color of skin. Wilkerson is white. Would that the R party would look to the general for an example.
Usually when a republican speaks the truth about the republican party, they are soon shunned. Mr. Crabapple McCain had nothing but shit to say about Powell after Powell endorsed Obama. These people are at their most dangerous when they allow their hate to bind them together.
Col. Wilkerson: C’mon over to the Democratic party – our arms are open to anyone with the cojones to expose the Rethugs for the racist bastards they really are! Well done, Colonel, WELL DONE!
Sununu is too blatant to be a number 1 surrogate because he doesn’t know how to obscure the dog whistle.
Yet he’s a perfect Repug…bully racist hypocrite. I loved watching the clip of him ranting at Bill Richardson…Richardson ended up unable to control his amusement at the “attack”.
I remind you that nearly 40% of WV registered Dems voted for the felon interred in TX rather than Obama in the primary…as fellow local Dems hide their heads in shame, I contend that we’re not that different from many parts of this country, just a bit more brazen.
The racist issue with Republicans is what keeps their party living in the 50s. Their numbers will continue to dwindle as the nation becomes more enlightened and bigotry finds itself less allowed and accepted by the electorate.
Keeping your party in the racist 50′s – while the population of America becomes more and more diverse – is a recipe for slow suicide for the Teaparty Republicans. It’s not just that fewer and fewer whites will be racists (although I feel that will certainly be true) – there will be a fewer white percentage in the total voting public.
The base is being kept in line by the fear-mongering, geared to incite base racists feelings that already existed in those people. However, the Fox audience is literally dying out.

The DNC should be using the Colonel to their advantage until election time. He couldn’t have been more right about the Republican party
