Well, that’s what Republican Rep. John Fleming of Louisiana says.
“We are either going to go down the socialist road and become like western Europe and create, I guess really a godless society, an atheist society. Or we’re going to continue down the other pathway where we believe in freedom of speech, individual liberties and that we remain a Christian nation. So we’re going to have to win that battle, we’re going to have to solve that argument before we can once again reach across and work together on things.”
Don’t you love it when complex issues are framed and simplified into clean black and white terms. Your choice has come down to voting Democratic and perpetuating a godless, socialist society or voting Republican and returning to a time of milk, honey and Christian faith.
It’s a clear cut choice. I hope those pesky Muslims and gay folks are listening.

What actual proof do these GOBP’ers have that Democrats are pushing a Socialist agenda? Just playing the old, worn out GOBP FEAR card, yet again. Anyone who has any good conscience could not actually vote for the Party of Obstruct,Degrade, and Divide.
A very good question to ask might be, what is inherently wrong with socialism? The Scandinavian countries are heavily socialized and seem to be filled with quire happy people, to borrow totally from Bertrand Russel, “Socialism broadly includes many variations, but in all its forms it means:
Basic economic decisions, as well as political decisions, must reflect the common good. The entire economy should operate for the good of the entire society, with no one left behind.
No private concentrations of capital or other wealth, and no other types of private concentrations of power.
The end of money’s domination over society. The end of the priority of property and private greed.
Socialism will complete what democracy began– the transfer of sovereignty in all spheres from elites to the people.
First of all, I’m a Christian, and I’m getting to the point where I hate most other Christians. There is a serious red flag there.
Secondly, this is the kind of divisive BS that the Republicans are now neck deep in. Thanks for adding to my small arsenal of dangerous thought coming from the right wing.
My newest Huffington Post piece reflects on just this sort of manipulation, distortion, and abandonment of the principles that this country was founded upon. I think you’ll find that these two articles go well together:
I don’t understand why people who say they are Christians don’t stand up for their religion? The loud and ignorant mob has hijacked Christianity and a piece at a time changed it into something that they find more to their liking and “real Christians” do nothing to stop it. Isn’t that the same thing that happened to Islam? Once jihad meant “an individual’s striving for spiritual self-perfection”. Now it means a battle against anyone (an outside figure or group) who appears to be in their way. Belonging to neither group the two things have an eerie sameness to me.
I see the same problem with the republicans. They courted a monster and invited it home to dinner and now the monster is taking over the house and they feel impotent to do anything to stop it. So they look the other way and say “it will be ok once we take back the house and the senate”. Soon one might have to be a Christian to be a republican and or a republican to be a Christian (in good standing anyway). Others can come to the party if they stay quiet and pretend it is all ok with Jesus.
How about the right wing saying that it is insensitive for Muslims to move into a building near “ground zero” but not saying anything about Glenn Beck holding a rally against MLK and what he stood for on the anniversary of his great speech?
When will it be time for honest Christians and real republicans to stand up to bullies and usurpers and take their beliefs back?
Amen dinamic72, Amen. REAL Christianity has lots of room for asking questions, dissenting, and spiritual quests, not political ones. This “Neo-Cons/Tea Partiers own Christianity” idea is BS, and it’s time for dissenting Christians, and people of all faiths, and dissenting Republicans too, to get up, stand up, stand up for their rights.
Alright you ignorant atheists… if there is no god, then HOW DOES THE SUN KEEP ORBITING THE EARTH? BAM!
You see people, that’s how you deal with atheist skum. With LOGIC! Hit that bullseye and the rest of the dominoes will come down like a house of cards… CHECKMATE!

I guess that it would be a waste of time to tell Rep. John Fleming that this is not and never has been a Christian nation! Aaaarrrgggg
