The Midterms – An Imperfect Steak or A Can of Catfood

.

From the comment pages.

“Everything in life is relative. Is Obama perfect? No. Would the GOP do better?  Hell No.  Just because the steak isn’t a perfect medium rare doesn’t mean I’ll send it back and order a can of catfood.”

GOP catfood…that sounds about right.

The Midterms – A Choice Between Atheism and Christianity

.

Well, that’s what Republican Rep. John Fleming of Louisiana says.

“We are either going to go down the socialist road and become like western Europe and create, I guess really a godless society, an atheist society. Or we’re going to continue down the other pathway where we believe in freedom of speech, individual liberties and that we remain a Christian nation. So we’re going to have to win that battle, we’re going to have to solve that argument before we can once again reach across and work together on things.”

Don’t you love it when complex issues are framed and simplified into clean black and white terms.  Your choice has come down to voting Democratic and perpetuating a godless, socialist society or voting Republican and returning to a time of milk, honey and Christian faith.

It’s a clear cut choice.  I hope those pesky Muslims and gay folks are listening.

Democrats and Street Smarts

.

Anthony Weiner on Hardball referring to Dems doing battle with Republicans.

“Democrats bring library books to knife fights.”

True.  It would be nice if both sides would show up with library books but unfortunately, one side has chosen to remain illiterate.  The dilemma for Dems is that one faction of the party is screaming for them to drop the books and start packing knives or risk getting bloodied time and time again.  Another faction demands that they stay true to character and double the number of books they bring to these fights with no thought of resorting to their opponent’s tactics.

I’d like to think the answer lies somewhere between those two extremes.  Definitely keep on carrying those books but don’t be afraid to flash a knife or two when the situation calls for it.  Being ‘right’ is important but it won’t win you any battles when faced with an opponent who fights by a unique set of rules where integrity and truth have no place…an opponent who understands only too well that half the jury who gets to pick the winner is as illiterate as they are.

The proper balance of “books” and street smarts is what’s called for, I think.

Obama Defines the Midterms

.

An oversimplification?  If so, not by much.

“This is a choice between the policies that led us into the mess or the policies that are leading us out of the mess,” Obama said. “It’s a choice between falling backward and moving forward.”

It’s always quicker and easier to break something than to fix it…especially when the bastards that broke it keep on messing with the tools required to get it fixed…and when some members of the fix-it team are more interested in their corporate sponsors than actually fixing anything.

And in case anyone forgot, when President Inept left office in 2008, the country was losing 800,000 jobs a month.  That’s quite a fall Humpty Dumpty took and it’ll be quite a job to put him back together again.
