With so much talk of health care reform, the economy and Afghanistan, many are concerned that President Obama is losing support among independents. Polling indicates that things have stabilized nicely over the last three months.
But support for Obama has not plummeted among independents, and that needs to be clarified before it becomes erroneous conventional wisdom. It especially makes no sense to compare independent support in January with independent support now, and conclude there has been a collapse of support. The pattern this fall, since Sept 1, has been quite stable among independents. Depending on which polls you use, a shade up or a shade down, but overall, not a huge trend either way over the past 3 months.
Ok. Everyone take a deep breath.

Okay. So Democrat approval has wavered at times but seems to remain steady. Independent approval has tanked it looks like around 13(?) points. And the bottom has dropped out from under the Republican/crossover approval he enjoyed at first, down over 20 points.
This is good news for Dems?? If it were ratings for a Republican Leader, I think you guys would be screaming it is proof he or she had lost the public’s confidence.
The approval rating from Independents has been trending up in the last few weeks. I would say that is a positive sign. TN bases his charge of hypocrisy on what he projects “us guys” would have done if these stats were for a Republican Leader – a mythical situation. We can’t be charged with hypocrisy for something that never happened. In other words, he’s avoiding the fact that, contrary to what some would have us believe, approval for Pres. Obama is trending back up among Independents.
It isn’t surprising that Republican approval is tanking – look at what the Republican Party has become for the reason.
Frances, I made a personal observation and statement regarding hypocrisy. I made no charge.
And I hardly think extending my thoughts to make an educated rhetorical statement about how Democrats would react to a similar situation involving a Republican to be any more of a “mythical situation” than say……extending the balance of an isolated Biblical verse to include the remainder of that chapter or Psalm.
1) Your mythical situation does not exist and is pure conjecture.
2) The remainder of the Bible chapter in question exists and is pertinent to the understanding of what precedes it.
If you don’t want people to think you are charging them with hypocrisy, then don’t use the word. You assume that people would deny the obvious in this case if the shoe were on the other foot. You are, in a sense, calling us stupid before we’ve even done anything stupid. If anything, you are denying that the approval of Independents trending upwards is a positive thing.
Frances, please see my comment regarding the comprehension challenged and putting YOUR thoughts and YOUR words in my comments.
Your whole comment is a waste. It is irrelevant as it basically says what YOU want others to think you think I said.
I said what I meant and based on your commentary, I don’t feel you are qualified to do creative interpretations of my comments. If I want or need a personal spokesperson or translator, I am quite capable of hiring one.
Now. I’m probably going to be away from the computer for most of the rest of the day. (I’m really, really trying to stay on topic. But it seems to me somewhere along the line the “topic” gets changed to “me”. I don’t think that’s my fault. But if that keeps up, I wouldn’t blame Mario for putting me off or at least asking me to refrain from commenting. It’s really supposed to be about his posts and our responses to those posts.)
TN, I don’t think I’m being out of line or off topic. In each of my comments, I have pointed out that Independents’ approval of Pres. Obama is trending up, and that is the topic.
If someone else would like to correct me on the matter, please do so.
There are those who would also have us believe that Pres. Obama’s approval among Democrats is cratering. Why is that?

Hypocrisy knows no ideological barrier.

1) Your mythical situation does not exist and is pure conjecture.
2) The remainder of the Bible chapter in question exists and is pertinent to the understanding of what precedes it.
