You had me there for a minute..I cannot understand how an intelligent, well-informed person, no matter the party affiliate..cannot understand what the correct choice should be.
I am retired now..but when I looked at my social security earnings from 2000-2008…the Bush years..I saw the decrease of my salary year after year. Prior years there was a steady increase.
Then one Fortune 500 purchased my Fortune 500 customer service center. They outsourced the center to India.
The worst insult..as a Customer Service Manager..I had to the train the several groups that came over from India. To make matters worse..most told me stories that this was their 2nd, 3rd and even 4th training trip to the States for different companies. They would go to work for a company for a while, quit, then work for another. This is a common practice
I was not ready to retire. But there were few jobs for 63 yr old ladies!
I just pray the public really reads and studies information on their own..not listen to pundits. Do your research and make an informed vote.
If you believe that health care is a privilege and not a right, then vote GOP. -it is a privilege, and those who can’t afford it get it for free, from taxpaying citizens
If you believe in less regulation for Wall Street and corporations, vote GOP.
-not true, GOP had regulation plans for Wall Street as well, but we won’t let facts get in the way, we have a long list here!
If you believe in further erosion of the middle class, vote GOP.
-Really? Until the market busted as a result of Clinton Era Liberal Housing mandates forcing banks to loan to retards who are now foreclosing – and bankrupting America, we wouldn’t be in this mess, but whatever.
If you believe that science is a dirty word, vote GOP.
Abortion is a dirty word, and destroying embryos for research is unethical. Other than that, GOP supports science, or is that news to you?
If you believe that gays and lesbians are second class citizens not entitled to the same rights as the heterosexual community, vote GOP.
GOP candidates have supported anti-hate crime legislation and protected GLBT citizens, they just don’t support gay marriage
If you believe in a theocratic state, vote GOP.
So it’s ok to force a Muslim Mosque somewhere, but not ok to wish anyone a merry christmas. It’s ok to have “in god we trust” on US bills, but not ok to believe in him, right?
If you believe that the eight years of fiscal and social policy set out by George W. Bush is the way to go, then vote GOP.
um… house and congress were controlled by the dems for a while, and yes Bush made a lot of mistakes. Obama is quickly outpacing him though!
Sam,the GOP controlled Congress from 1994,Gingrich revolution,to 2008,and the presidency for 8 years. They took a surplus and turned it into a deficit. If you would only take your brains out of your ass you would recognize that minorities and poor middle class who vote repug “They are like chickens voting for Col. Saunders the fried chicken king.”
If you believe that health care is a privilege and not a right, then vote GOP. -it is a privilege, and those who can’t afford it get it for free, from taxpaying citizens
—- Sam, so wouldn’t it be better if they were able to purchase insurance (for an amount less than the cost of expensive ER care that we are paying for – because Reagan signed it into law that no one could be turned away, even if they couldn’t pay) with a subsidy that would cost less than what we’re now paying? Wouldn’t it be better to make sure children and co-workers are healthy and not spreading diseases to the rest of us? – Pandemic anyone?
If you believe in less regulation for Wall Street and corporations, vote GOP. -not true, GOP had regulation plans for Wall Street as well, but we won’t let facts get in the way, we have a long list here!
—- Sam, now you’re letting the revisionist history get in your way. Yes, there was regulation and much of it was gutted by BOTH the GOP and the Dems. What little that was left however, the GOP appointees refused to apply. Let’s start with Wendy Gramm, Phil’s wife – you know the guy who hatched up the Gramm-Leach-Blilley Act that repealed Glass-Steagall? – she ruled her agency, the CFTC, would not regulate derivatives and then she resigned within the week and went to work for ENRON – remember them? You know that company that screwed it customers, it’s employees, little old ladies on Social Security and, oh yeah, the taxpayers. When the State Attorneys General went to the feds because of their concerns about mortgage fraud (by the industry, not the borrowers), the feds – Paulson – told them it was not their jurisdiction and then did nothing. You want to talk facts, Sam, — you sure don’t want to talk with me about them. I have a long list I could continue with anytime you want to go head to head.
If you believe in further erosion of the middle class, vote GOP.
-Really? Until the market busted as a result of Clinton Era Liberal Housing mandates forcing banks to loan to retards who are now foreclosing – and bankrupting America, we wouldn’t be in this mess, but whatever.
—- Sam, more BS you’ve been spoon fed by the right wing revisionist Faux News machine. This was a SMALL, SMALL part of the market. And those loans the banks made under CRA were good loans because of the rules they had to apply. When the mortgage brokers got into the market that were NOT under the rules of the CRA, that’s when the problems started. And the banks who bought these loans knew they were bad loans – if you think they didn’t, you’re either a fool or an idiot. They used the same marketing plan on mortgages they used on credit cards years before when they dropped them into everyone’s mail box and didn’t care whether they could pay them back or not.
If you believe that science is a dirty word, vote GOP.
Abortion is a dirty word, and destroying embryos for research is unethical. Other than that, GOP supports science, or is that news to you?
—- Sam, if you think the GOP supports science then please tell me why under the Bush administration significant cuts were made: http://www.scienceprogress.org/2008/02/science-funding-in-the-final-bush-budget/ . Also, please explain why people in their administration changed the wording in the government’s own scientific study on global warming? BTW – what gives the government the right to be big brother in my bedroom? Your religion?
If you believe that gays and lesbians are second class citizens not entitled to the same rights as the heterosexual community, vote GOP.
GOP candidates have supported anti-hate crime legislation and protected GLBT citizens, they just don’t support gay marriage.
— Sam, wrong again: http://trac.syr.edu/tracreports/civright/106/. Also, please answer this riddle: If conservatives believe a Constitutional Amendment is necessary to prevent same sex marriage…then doesn’t that already mean that it’s legal? Tell me – what’s the difference between the law that prevented mixed race marriages and same sex – UNDER the Constitution – and your answer cannot be “same sex” as the founding documents states all people are “equal” – sex had nothing to do with it. As we know, the courts ruled laws preventing mix marriages unconstitutional years ago. Do you want that overturned?
If you believe in a theocratic state, vote GOP.
So it’s ok to force a Muslim Mosque somewhere, but not ok to wish anyone a merry christmas. It’s ok to have “in god we trust” on US bills, but not ok to believe in him, right?
— Sam, I often wish people a Merry Christmas (anything preventing you from doing the same – other than Bill O’Reilly’s inventing a controversy that doesn’t exist?). “In God We Trust” was not added to our currency until 1861 – it was not included by the founders when our first currency was issued. Nor did our first pledge of allegiance include “under God” that, BTW, was written in 1891 by a Baptist minister who was a Christian Socialist. So let’s go back to the Constitution and keep church and state separated as they intended, okay? And based on that illustrious document that we all hold dear, the Mosque in NY can be put anywhere they choose to put it, as long as they get the necessary approval from the city (which they did) and pay for the property where they choose to put it (which they also did).
Please keep God out of our government. If He/She were on America’s side, we have a much better history than we have wouldn’t we?
He/she belongs in a church – where they don’t pay taxes.
If you believe that the eight years of fiscal and social policy set out by George W. Bush is the way to go, then vote GOP.
um… house and congress were controlled by the dems for a while, and yes Bush made a lot of mistakes. Obama is quickly outpacing him though!
— Sam, please see Morton’s response. He nailed it.
If you want to see more people dependent on the government for some form of payola, vote for whoever’s in office now, dem or repub. They’ll keep the payday coming as a way to buy votes.
It’s time to clean house and vote into office those who understand that state’s rights are the key to a free people, and the soul of our constitution. When you seperate power, you dissolve the potential for tyranny. Centralizing power with the federal government increases the risk of tyranny.
I have to laugh at the guy spouting the crap about banks being “forced” to give homeloans. What crashed the market was not first time homebuyers taking advantage of Federal programs or policies to get their first house. It was speculation, largely by your Orange County upper middle class+ types who already had a 600,000 dollar house and knew that if they bought 1, 2 or 5 more they could barely afford, and just hang onto them for six months and re-sell them, they could make a five or six figure profit by really doing nothing at all but houseflipping.
It was those people going to the subprime lenders and making up fake incomes to get loans they couldn’t possibly afford. They didn’t need to be able to afford them. They only planned to hold onto the properties long enough to dump them back off again at a big profit in a few months down the line.
But yes…. blame it all on black working families trying to get their first home for 60,000 dollars, that’s what collapsed the entire housing sector. If you believe that one I’ll sell you some tickets to the event where they talk about how ACORN rigs elections, or a pool on the roof of the gym.
This sounded good on the surface but so do get rich schemes. After you have paid your money for a few of them you realize you have lost your way and are being scammed. I not sure yet who I am voting for but I am sure who I am not voting for. For the record this nation was built on Christian values and has always been a nation that believed in the ability of those values. To deny these values is a national death sentence to all that support this denial. I ask this one question if God is not “The One” then why is it that all country’s that support him thrive, have beautiful lands, food of plenty, and people who believe in their future. Where as those country’s who do not support him have sand, no or little food, no or little water, always requiring aid of some sort, death, and seem to fight among themselves. We Americans will also be on that list if we chose to deny that which is the one and only God the Almighty. My vote will go to anyone with a Christian value platform and this time I am going to do my homework and look up this person to make sure their not just lying to win a vote.
“I believe in a country that rewards hard work and responsibility”
I stopped reading there. If he believes in hard work and responsibility, he would stop trying to redistribute wealth to those not willing to work hard, and he would stop giving out billions of dollars in free money to companies that weren’t being responsible.
Yo Tommy, how’s the late 18th century treatin ya? Pretty awesome yet obvious alias ya got there, goin’ on & on ’bout tyrants and such. Yer just a sucka anyway pretendin’ to know shit ’cause ya took A history class on yer way to no where. You though, are inconsequetial. It’s this “Sam” dipshit that really needs to get his proverbial head outta his ass. Have you ever had an original thought”Sam”? Does Glenn Beck have his fist so far up your ass that satan himself winces each time Glenn pops his knuckles? Am I spelling Glenn right? Who cares. Stop being a knee-jerk mouthpiece “Sam”, and quit blaming everyone else for your own sad shortcomings. And Hey, you wanna be brainy libs, quit fueling these type of nobody hacks with yer overly descriptive explanations of yer positions. They don’t get it, and everyone else’s eyes glaze over when you try to explain your stance on the fiscal responsiblity of sub prime lenders. BO-Ring! Understand dummies, then understand voters. buh-bye dips.
Lets be honest folks. The only reason why America’s middle class is dead compared to Sweden, Norway, and Denmark abundance of economic equality is because America never had an ‘Olof Palme’. A country can’t sustain itself by giving 90% of its resources to 1% of its population. Sooner or later, people are gonna give up on capitalism because they will realize that love, family, living life (one that has meaning), and basic human decency is more important than making money.
Money is not value. We’re all gonna die one day. It’s what we do and produce, it’s our actions, that will last forever. That’s real value.
Don’t worry, a Democratic leader will not be selected again next term. Obama isn’t igniting that spark he had to win in 2008, and the US population in general is mostly Republican. It’s just the media that is extremely liberal.
From an April 2009 poll from the Wall Street Journal:
Strongly Democrat: 21%
Not very strongly Democrat: 9%
Independent/Lean Democrat: 12%
Strictly Independent: 19%
Independent/Lean Republican: 11%
Not very strongly Republican: 7%
Strongly Republican: 13%
Other: 4%
Not sure: 4%
I’d think twice about making statements like that. It’s clear Republicans are a minority party in this country, the mainstream is Independent/Democrat. (For the record, I’m a Republican. But one with a functional brain.)
I will vote Republican, but not for those reasons. The American Dream is not Socialism and we are headed in that direction fast under the leadership of Obama and his cronies.
I believe their will be a landslide on November 2nd. Hopefully the Republicans can slow this guy down before he does any more damage.
“GOP candidates have supported anti-hate crime legislation and protected GLBT citizens, they just don’t support gay marriage”
Just want to point out to Sam: in Montana, the GOP’s platform actually says that they want to make homosexuality illegal. Vilification is one hell of a way to protect tax paying citizens…
You said, “For the record this nation was built on Christian values and has always been a nation that believed in the ability of those values.”
What record would that be? The founding document’s mention the word “God” once – and it is preceded by the word “Nature” – “Nature’s God” — and since Jefferson and many others were deists, how does that make our country “founded on Christian values?” It’s a great talking point you have — so where’s your proof – some grandiose interpretation by some minister who was able to read the minds of the founding fathers? And it really doesn’t matter what they “thought” – all that matters is what was in those documents we hold dear. And the word “Christian” is not among them.
The goal of the founders was to separate church and state. Apparently, you’d prefer a theocracy. So tell me – just which religion – Catholic, Baptist, Lutheran, etc. is going to be the controlling religion?
“I will vote Republican, but not for those reasons. The American Dream is not Socialism and we are headed in that direction fast under the leadership of Obama and his cronies.”
Socialism – what a laugh. Been listening to Beck, have you?
This thread is absolutely packed with misinformation from the Republican people. Unfortunately that’s incredibly usual.
Republicans aren’t a majority.
There isn’t a liberal media, 90% of the airwaves are owned by 5 super-rightwingers. In many cases radio show hosts like Rush Limbaugh when preferentially kept in the best time slots or instead of alternate, progressive shows even when his show was not profitable or ranked lower in the listenership.
If we have a “liberal media” could any of the Republicans name 5 major, well known liberal talk show hosts on the radio? And further could you name 5 major, well known news show hosts or reporters or commentators who are not former or current comedians? Most of them are on cable channels anyway, which already puts them in minority viewership. But you can get Fox news anytime – anywhere – in most public places of business, etc.
(Cue up the people saying Fox News isn’t biased, hahaha.)
As far as the guy who said Obama needs to stop giving billions to the companies who helped cause the disaster… you need to direct your ignorant kneejerk at George W Bush, the guy you probably voted for twice, who did the banking bailout money. Oh and didn’t tax for it, and didn’t account for it in the budget whatsoever. Unlike every stimulus Obama has done, where he’s .. you know… not just spent it with zero plan how to pay for it and planning to dump it off on the next administration. That sort of “responsible” leadership that your party gives our country.
Seriously anyone Republican or even “conservative Independent” who, without doubling over laughing, can say that their reason for opposing Barack Obama is his “spending”, after 8 years of George W Bush, has mental problems. It’s as simple as that. You are disconnected from reality or you are selectively listening only to people like Glen Beck who tell you the same pro-right propaganda all day.
Well if you go back and read the real history books of that time ( I have a few here at the house ) you will find that the founding fathers were mostly Christian believing people, in fact many of them held church in the White House and were the first to publish Bible’s to be distributed among the citizen’s. Jefferson is one that is refer to a lot and the fact is that in most every writing he produced he always ended it in a prayer to Our Lord, even in the document where he talked about church and state, which by the way he was referring to that the state could not dictate what church we go to because during those times this was customary. One only needs to do some serious research with independent research mediums to be able to find this stuff out. Most of these facts have been pushed under the rug because there are so many people that are offended by our beginnings here in the US but I believe its because they are trying to destroy us from within. Good Values and good morals are a asset to any society and the Bible is by far the best book written on morals and values. A country that decides to ignore morals and values is doomed for destruction. This of course is not my opinion but a fact because our own history as humans has shown this to be true. I have read many of the personal letters that our fore fathers wrote and I can honestly say most of them were God fearing people who believed in the Bible and what it stands for.
Bill, you forgot to mention that in Texas we have the highest insurance rates in the USA and among the highest electricity rates in the USA. That “Republican” candidate for the legislature from our district, Erwin (not Erwin Rommel)Caine has only a POBox as an address in the district, and has, from his skyscraper office in Dallas, has become wealthy defending the insurance companies from having to pay legitimate local claimants such as Methodist Hospital. And that the Perry-appointed members of the utility regulation board, set up to defend OUR interests, consists of members selected by the electrical power companies to defend them against us. That they have given us — us, here in RRCo — higher electricity rates than those in Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and even “Old” Mexico. Tell us, Sean, Sam, just how votes for Caine, Perry and the like jibes with your preference for lower taxes. In Texas, we have govt by the corporations, for the corporations, in opposition to government by, of and for the people. And tell us how Caine can support Texas education by cutting appropriations therefor. And why Perry, as commander of the Texas Nationa.Guard, doen’t use it to strengthen our borders instead of asking the Feds for such resources on terms he knows the Feds must refuse?
Okay, drop my well-founded OPINION about “govt by corporations, etc.) I’ll be glad to “moderate” any repeat any of my other assertions, all of them factual rather than judgmental, that you can demonstrate to be excessive.
we all bring our past, our present, our convictions, our belief system to the table when we negotiate anything. Our founding fathers saw fit to separate church and state for a reason.
I think they would vehemently object to their belief structure being touted as the basis for the Christian and Republican Right’s argument that this is a Christian Nation. This is a Nation built on the principle of religious freedom (among other principles). Religious Freedom cannot exist in a land where one religion seeks to lay claim on the whole of the nation.
“And it really doesn’t matter what they “thought” – all that matters is what was in those documents we hold dear. And the word “Christian” is not among them.”
Repeating, it doesn’t matter what they thought, what matters is what they put in the documents that we follow as the rule of law.
Ours thoughts are the very thing that controls our actions, every action requires a thought first. Then after these actions comes a equal or greater reaction as well (this is the law of nature not mine). Those men who started this Nation did (on the most part) have some short of Christian background, and that background molded the very foundation that we hold dear today. Yes they established that no one would ever dictate as to what religion one would believe or partake in, and I agree, I did not say I believe this should “Be” a Christian Nation, I said it was built on Christian Values and those values forged the documents such as the Constitution, Bill of Rights, etc. These values are also what has made this a great nation as well. Jesus himself said we should not judge a person by their beliefs but should teach, pray, forgive and move on, unless they are another Christian than we are to correct as well. I am not judging other beliefs, in fact I embrace them; however if those beliefs tear at the fabric that holds this nation together than we must make a stand to repair that which has been torn no matter what religious group we belong to. Our fore fathers wanted equal rights for all who live within our borders, but they also wanted the values and morels that they believed in to survive as well and that is all I am trying to establish here.
I do not disagree on any of the “other John’s” points, although he allowed the possibillity of inferring things I would disagree with. One could infer that he believes that government should take a position on moral issues, and I think the founding fathers were very careful to say no to this. The government upholds laws against murder and manslaughter (except by the state itself), rape, theft, etc because these things are judged to be socially intolerable, not because they are sins against Christian values. Most Christians also believe most or all abortions are “sinful,” but the founding fathers saw no imperative to pass laws against abortions, which would have constituted a judgment that abortions are socially intolerable.
We fought a terrible war in which one of the issues was slavery; many, perhaps most thought this was a moral issue, but it was also an earthly issue: could a nation exist half slave, half free?
Christians once held that marriage had to be sacramentally established, but American society (government) decided that the state (in the person of a lowly JP) could establish a marriage, and that a marriage (a “common-law marriage”) could be effected by the parties thereto. Recently, society (the state) has decided that “shacking up” is equivalent to a common-law marriage, with the addendum that in these cases divorce did not require formal action by the coourts. Many Christians consider these unions sinful, but one hears of little enthusiasm for prosecuting the parties for the misdemeanor of fornication. And once upon a time we repealed an ill-judged governmental ban of all consumption of alcoholic beverages (arguable sinful), on the ground that the law damaged society more than the sin had done. We may be edging toward a consensus that the same is true of laws against maraijuana.
the very fact that you interject Christianity into the discussion of what holds the fabric of our nation together says that you cannot separate religion from government.
As Diana mentioned (I paraphrase and add) our nation is governed by the words in our founding documents and the resulting laws. This nation was built by a lot of different people with different values, religious or not, to cull it down to just Christian values is to deny and dismiss the involvement of any non christian who helped forge and build this nation.
John H, common law marriage is not the law in every state and there are legal actions people take when separating those common law marriages because often property or other monetary considerations are involved. There are time frames involved to have the union considered common law and while you are correct that these cases are not a formal court divorce action there are nonetheless civil cases that result from the break up of those unions.
You do make my point for me, though, about society and the courts making decisions and laws that are at odds with Christian beliefs and you point out some of the most important ones, like ending slavery. It is important you bring up these discussion points because it is a good reminder of how our government is run as opposed to those who would prefer it be a theocracy
“James Madison was among the first to recognize that a stronger central government was critical to the new nation’s survival. Always the scholar, Madison undertook an exhaustive study of government structures in world history. Madison researched and compiled a study of ancient and modern confederacies, outlining reasons why earlier attempts at democracy and representative government had failed. Madison’s research convinced him that the Articles would not withstand the onslaughts of petty state interests. Madison’s ideas eventually crystallized into “the Virginia Plan,” where the interests of individuals, states, and the national authority were balanced and mixed into “an extended republic.” He also sought the counsel of influential Americans whose support was vital if any changes in the government were to take place. George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, and Edmund Randolph were among the prominent politicians Madison convinced.”
Madison’s decisions that were incorporated into the Constitution were made based on his exhaustive research of other governments, as noted above.
If the Christian values you believe are part of that document, then it is lacking in a number of the 10 commandments that surely would have been included had the Constitution been founded upon those values, as you believe.
Dear Friends
Ok first thing you guys are thinking far too deep and taking this to a whole new level; my thoughts were this simple; that the thoughts, morals, and values of a man will in fact have a influence on his decision making process. I am sure that our fore fathers used every means possible to insure they came up with the right process we now call American doctrine. I have studied these fore fathers for 9 weeks strait and can tell you they were some of the most intelligent humans of their day, they knew you cannot reference the Christian way into our government documents because this would make it seem one sided but if you think their believe in God and Jesus Christ did not have any influence on the way they made decisions than this can only be described as naive. Now as far as our government making changes to our original documents to fit the current events of the day I can say sometimes people can make changes that hurt our society rather than help it. Keeping things simple and easy to understand is usually the best course of action when it comes to politics. I am a vehicle mechanic by trade and have been for 25+ years and during that time I have seen many changes made to the Automobile. Some changes have been good and others not so good same as our government. But if you tear a vehicle down to the original design you will find that it works as well as they do today and in some cases better. We as humans can go too far with things and make more out of it than it really is as far as our government is concern when they do this they usually assign a committee to it spend huge amounts of money and after their done we are usually no better off than we were. Now since you brought up a few other issues like abortion, slavery, and marriage, believes I have towards those issues corresponds with the Bible. Here a link that describes what the Bible says about abortion (http://christiananswers.net/q-aig/aig-bibleandabortion.html), Slavery is one I think we all would like to just forget ever happened, I can’t form an opinion as to why this happened because it is not something I would of done but there are a lot of things in history done by mankind just as bad or worse and the only thing I can say is we either serve the God of the flesh or we serve the God of the spirit there is no grey area. I am certain these men were not serving the God of the Spirit. There are so many issues and the only thing I can say is one should try to achieve what is right for all which is a task we may never master. With our core beliefs, values, plus our education we can only hope that we come to a decision that will benefit all of concern, in the political arena this is the most difficult thing to achieve because of all the variables one would have. But trying to achieve this is most certainly a good start. We most certainly will not be able to please everyone but we will help as many as possible. There are men in our own past that have achieved this, men like George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Franklin D Roosevelt, Martian Luther King, Ronald Reagan and many more.
My Prayers to all
God Bless
IDW

We have worked hard, raised our children, worshipped our God and grown old together. Yes, we are the ones some refer to as being over the hill and that is probably true. But before writing us off completely, there are a few things that need to be taken into consideration. In school we studied English, history, math, and science which enabled us to lead America into the technological age. Most of us remember what outhouses were, many of us with firsthand experience. We remember the days of telephone party-lines, 25 cent gasoline, and milk and ice being delivered to our homes. For those of you who don’t know what an icebox is, today they are electric and referred to as refrigerators. A few even remember when cars were started with a crank. Yes, we lived those days. We are probably considered old fashioned and out-dated by many. But there are a few things you need to remember before completely writing us off.
We won World War II and fought in Korea and Viet Nam. We can quote the pledge of allegiance, and know where to place our hand while doing so. We wore the uniform of our country with pride and lost many friends on the battlefield. We didn’t fight for the Socialist States of America, we fought for the “land of the free and home of the brave.” We wore different uniforms but carried the same flag. We know the words to the Star Spangle Banner, America, and America the Beautiful by heart and you may even see some tears running down our cheeks as we sing. We have lived what many of you have only read about in history books and we feel no obligation to apologize to anyone for America.
Yes, we are old and slow these days but rest assured, we have at least one good fight left in us. We have loved this country, fought for it, and died for it, and now we are going to save it. It is our country and nobody is going to take it away from us. We took oaths to defend America against all enemies, foreign and domestic, and that is an oath we plan to keep. There are those who want to destroy this land we love but, like our founders, there is no way we are going to remain silent.
It was the young people of this nation who elected Obama and the
Democratic congress. You fell for the “Hope and change” which in reality was nothing but “Hype and lies.” You have tasted socialism and seen evil face to face, and have found you don’t like it after all. You make a lot of noise but most are all too interested in their careers or “Climbing the social ladder” to be involved in such mundane things as patriotism and voting.
Many of those who fell for the “great lie” in 2008 are now having buyer’s remorse. With all the education we gave you, you didn’t have sense enough to see through the lies and instead drank the kool-aid. Now you’re paying the price and complaining about it. No jobs, lost mortgages, higher taxes, and less freedom. This is what you voted for and this is what you got. We entrusted you with the Torch of Liberty and you traded it for a paycheck and a fancy house.
Well, don’t worry youngsters, the Grey Haired Brigade is here, and in two months we are going to take back our nation. We may drive a little slower than you would like but we get where we’re going, and in November we’re going to the polls by the millions. This land does not belong to the man in the White House or to Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid. It belongs to “We the People”, and “We the People” plan to reclaim our land and our freedom. We hope this time you will do a better job of preserving it and passing it along to our grandchildren.
So the next time you have the chance to say the Pledge of Allegiance, stand up, put your hand over your heart, honor our country, and thank God for the old geezers of the “Grey-Haired Brigade.”
Dear Gray-Haired – I’ll be hitting 60 next month and there’s more than enough gray in my hair. I’m one of the baby booomers, too. I know where to put my hand when I say the Pledge and I even use “under God” – that’s what I was taught, even if it wasn’t in the original pledge. I hung my flag out every 4th of July, Memorial Day and Labor Day. My flag never touched the ground. I know the words to the Star Spangled Banner, America the Beautiful, America, (My Country Tis of Thee) and quite a few others. I stopped hanging my flag when Bush made his video joke of the weapons of mass destruction at the National Press dinner. One of the most distasteful things I believe I have ever seen a President do during a time of war while our troops were dying. And again while he was on the golf course. He thought no more about the troops than a photo opportunity.
Rather than hang it in the position of distress, I simply folded it up and put it away. We killed thousands upon thousands of Iraqis – men, women and children and we maimed and displaced many more – based on a lie, in addition to the thousands of our own troops who have been killed – and, of course, there is no public count of those who have committed suicide. Thousands more have come home injured. Many will never ever be the same – whether physically or mentally. These are our young people who you denigrate with your remarks. Those who have and are still putting their lives on the line so you can come onto a sight like this and trash them and their generation.
You insinuate that your so called wisdom gives you the right to denigrate the young people of this country (along with many who are my age) for having voted for the Hope and Change – having fallen for the “great lie.”
Please spare us your, pardon my French, Bull puckey.
Let’s get just a few things straight – it wasn’t Obama that spent this country into debt – nor the Democratic Congress that wasn’t elected until 2006. The GOP had control of Congress from 1994 to 2006 – 12 years, buddy. And in that 12 years the vast majority of them voted to overturn Glass-Steagall and return the banking industry to what it was in the 1920′s before they blew up the country the last time.
It wasn’t the Democrats who turned a surplus into a deficit. They were not in control. Hell, they couldn’t even get an earmark through Steven’s Committee without his consent. Who are you kidding?
It wasn’t Obama who LIED us into a war in Iraq with his neo-con buddies (does that include you?).
It wasn’t Obama’s administration who let the bankers run wild with their mortgage practices; Paulson ignoring them and telling the State Attorneys General it was not their jurisdiction to investigate or prosecute mortgage brokers and lenders who were taking advantage of people.
It wasn’t Obama who began using FISA (although sadly, he supports it) to begin spying on our citizens. AND NOT A SINGLE REPUBLICAN I KNOW COMPLAINED ABOUT IT AT THE TIME! – How about you? We’re you calling your Representative and Senators complaining about it? I was!
Just where the hell were you while Bush and Co were selling our grand-childrens’ future down the river? I’m guessing you were voting him back in office in 2004 because he was a “war President.”
So where is all that so called patriotism now that Obama is a “war President?”
It’s the old geezers of our generation who have stood back and let those OF OUR GENERATION screw this country up. Were you crying about the bacon being brought home? Or the ungodly amount of money we pay for military equipment no one wants or needs? We you complaining while our government was being turned over to the for profit private sector so we could pay MORE than a non-profit government agency?
It seems to me it was our generation who was spending a great deal of their time “climbing the social ladder” too often at the expense of others. Wasn’t it our generation who had to have the bigger and better house and two or three cars and who sent their wives off to work so they could pay all the debt they were ringing up? It was certainly a good portion of our generation running up the largest debt in our history, rather than creating a savings account. It certainly wasn’t the young people who voted for Obama – most of them were still attending school during the Bush years. They weren’t buying big houses and fancy cars. They were trying to find jobs that would pay off their FOR PROFIT student loans that have put many of them so deep in debt they will probably never be able to pay off the debt they owe – especially since the economy was ripped asunder by a bunch of greedy bankers that Paulson threw trillions of our tax dollars at WITHOUT so much as a string attached to it.
While I have been one of those loyal voters, when I go back and look at the voting percentages of the past 30 years when our generation was up and coming – I don’t see where they voted any more then than now.
Seems to me the younger generation is who made it to the polls in the last election – more so that we old gray hairs.
I think you’re the one making a lot of noise because you think you’re so much more knowledgeable and patriotic than the rest of us.
I suggest you get over yourself. What we’re leaving the “youngsters” wasn’t caused by them – it was caused by our generation — and they’re going to have to clean up our mess.
If anything, you should be apologizing to them for not standing your patriotic butt up and screaming at your politicians long before now.
We were the ones entrusted with the Torch of Liberty and we traded it for a paycheck and a fancy house, falling for “great lie” of “trickle down economics” and sending our jobs overseas. And let’s not forget Dick Cheney’s “deficits don’t matter” — where were you when he said that? Did you complain then?
And, by the way – this country belongs to “ALL THE PEOPLE” – not to just a few of you who have been duped into doing the bidding of the Koch brothers, the John Birch Society, a bunch of white supremacists, the NRA, the GOA, and the corporations that want to finally control this country.
So you’d better thank these young people are here to clean up the mess of our “I – ME – MINE” generation, many of our generation whom didn’t and still don’t give a rip about anyone but themselves (a great many of them are bankers on Wall Street) – your social security and Medicare are going to depend on it. And rather than vilifying THEM for the mistakes of OUR generation, you ought to be thanking them for understanding that they need to fight against the fascism you are helping to bring to this country.
What’s the old adage – “there’s no fool like an old fool.”
Dear Diana,I think i just fell in love.If i can get my wife to agree, will you marry me?I’m 82 and i couldn’t agree with you more. You have nailed the perfect response but unfortunately you are preaching to the choir and the Repugs aka Teabaggers are so brain washed”Brain dead”that they couldn’t understand what you are writing.I always enjoy your responses.Keep up the good fight.
Mario – I love the video – it’s making the rounds on through various emails as I write. Sent it to several GOP relatives as well. Can hardly wait to hear their responses…hahahaha
Don’t hold your breath, Mario! I’ll be surprised if they respond at all – they’re only good at forwarding nonsense some other fool sent them. It’s really tiresome trying to train them to use snopes.com…lol.
You have made some very good points that for me show that our system of government is very broke and needs a repair. Go to http://www.goooh.com and check it out you might be impressed. I have supported this group because I truly believe this is what it will take to fix this country’s politics. The two parties have been fighting each other since I can remember and during that time I have seen a lot of good people hurt, disgraced, and made to feel a fool plus have seen a lot of bills, policies and such never make it. All because two parties can’t get together for the common good. The American public in most cases has suffered because of this fight as well. Yes there have been some successes but if the parties never existed I believe those successes would be of a larger scale. I have never been associated with either party and normally vote for who I believe has America’s best interest at heart. I did not support the Bush Gang nor did I support Obama mainly because after extensive research I came to the conclusion there was someone else better suited for the job. All though I was not to happy with the people running against them I felt they had more to offer. To tell you the truth I kept hoping and praying that someone else better suited would enter the race but sadly that did not happen. Obama has had some good Ideals and I have supported a few of them but he has fallen short on others that he said he would get done within the first 100 days in office. Not to mention I believe he has a hidden agenda that no one has seen yet, that if he is re-elected will show its ugly head. I pray every week for Obama and hope things turn around but believe he should re-think some security issues that to me seem like a threat to this nation. I understand why he might approach matters in such a way but these tactics have been tried in the past and failed, there is no reason to believe he will get them to work any better. I try to keep an open mind and only time will tell as to who I finally chose to vote for but one things is for sure I believe we should put this party politics to rest and make a new plan. George Washington said it would be a mistake to have party politics and did not support it. So the supporters of it waited until he was no longer a threat and than made it happen. I would have to say I agree with George and believe we can do a system like in http://www.goooh.com and have much more favorable results.
I was at their site about 2 years ago – their questionnaire or some form they had on the site gave me pause. They seemed to have an agenda beyond just ousting members of Congress. And that agenda, based on the questionnaire is not acceptable to me.
And there is no information to tell us who is behind this group other than one person, Tim Cox. Is he the ONLY person behind this?
The PAC information tells us nothing about donors other than GOOOH, LLC.
I don’t sign onto this stuff without knowing more about who is behind it. Not much on Tim Cox other than he’s a former exec at Dell and is allegedly self-funding this effort.
Like the Tea Party, I want to know who’s behind the effort and what their agenda really is before I sign on. If I agree, then fine, but I’m not going to be duped into supporting someone that is in the end against my own interests.
God Bless
IDW
If Obama is on the liberal side of all these issues, why doesn’t he govern like it, instead of blowing noble gas in our faces?
To Eric:
“the US population in general is mostly Republican” Oh really?
Pew Research 2008: 36% Democrat, 36% Independent, 27% Republican.
Independent leaning: 15% Democrat, 10% Republican.
John,
You said, “For the record this nation was built on Christian values and has always been a nation that believed in the ability of those values.”

Hey Diana,
Well if you go back and read the real history books of that time ( I have a few here at the house ) you will find that the founding fathers were mostly Christian believing people, in fact many of them held church in the White House and were the first to publish Bible’s to be distributed among the citizen’s.

John,
we all bring our past, our present, our convictions, our belief system to the table when we negotiate anything.
Hey John,
Note, I said:
“And it really doesn’t matter what they “thought” – all that matters is what was in those documents we hold dear. And the word “Christian” is not among them.”
Repeating, it doesn’t matter what they thought, what matters is what they put in the documents that we follow as the rule of law.
Diana and Janine,
Ours thoughts are the very thing that controls our actions, every action requires a thought first.

John,
the very fact that you interject Christianity into the discussion of what holds the fabric of our nation together says that you cannot separate religion from government.
John, if only it were so:
George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, and Edmund Randolph were among the prominent politicians Madison convinced.”
http://www.montpelier.org/explore/james_madison/father_constitution.php
My Prayers to all
God Bless

“The Grey-Haired Brigade”
They like to refer to us as senior citizens, old fogies, geezers,
and in some cases dinosaurs. Some of us are “baby boomers” getting ready to retire. Others have been retired for some time. We walk a little slower these days and our eyes and hearing are not what they once were.
In God We Trust

Have you checked out my new blog yet? http://www.politicsunspun.com
Mario – I love the video – it’s making the rounds on through various emails as I write. Sent it to several GOP relatives as well. Can hardly wait to hear their responses…hahahaha
@Diana. Great. I’d love to hear what your Republican relatives have to say about it. Let me know.
Don’t hold your breath, Mario! I’ll be surprised if they respond at all – they’re only good at forwarding nonsense some other fool sent them. It’s really tiresome trying to train them to use snopes.com…lol.
Hey Diana
God Bless
