The poll shows that the 2012 contest is going to begin right where the 2008 Iowa Caucuses left off, with Mike Huckabee leading Mitt Romney. Huckabee comes out on top of the poll garnering 22 percent, Romney finishes second with 18 percent, and Newt Gingrich finishes surprisingly well with 14 percent in third place. Sarah Palin finishes a disappointing fourth with 11 percent. Texas Congressman Ron Paul garnered 5 percent, while Pawlenty, and South Dakota Senator John Thune each received 1 percent.
Worry not about Palin. As soon as she commits to running for the nomination, she’ll no doubt razzle dazzle her way to the top.
Liberals are counting on you Sarah, don’t let them down.

Could Huckabee become the Williams Jennings Bryan of the current day? The latter’s balloon deflated rather quickly in the 1910′s & 20′s though his influence lasted far beyond his three failed presidential bids (1896, 1900 and 1908). Maybe there’s a lesson here: Bryan managed to draw large audiences, gave a good speech, but in the end was too far out for the voters (interestingly enough, by the standards of his day, Bryan was a progressive Deomcrat). There are many similarities between the two: a nod towards populism and a strong religious amd moralistic tone to the rhetoric. These latter points also apply to Palin: she talks a good talk and knows how to tweak religious issues.
My current political book reading is “Last Call” by Daniel Okrud, a history of prohibition. There are a lot of parallels I see to the current situation there: class warfare, religious domination of political life, single-issue politics. I recommend it.
Ah, but there’s good news.
2 weeks ago, in a series of polls,(by what org I don’t recall), it was demonstrated that against all GOP candidates except 1, Obama triumphed easily. The “1″? In a dead-heat with Palin if the election were held today.
While I agree she isn’t doing what a serious candidate would be doing right about now, I remain hopeful that she’s just stupid enough to go for it.
If her history is any judge…
I have a African Grey Parrot that has a bigger vocabulary then Palin.
