There’s nothing in the news exciting me today.  I might work on items 18 and 20 of my ToDo list.  I’m skipping 19.  It’s been on my ToDo lists for the last 3 months and just can’t get myself to start working on it.  I fear 19 will still be showing it’s ugly face on my list three months from now.

Open thread…anything you want.

  1. Maxene says:

    You mean A N Y T H I N G ;/ ?

  2. Maxene says:

    Darn, it didn’t work. Okay you know someone was going to ask. You wanted to be asked. What is the dreaded number 19 ?

  3. Number 19 is so vile that I cannot get myself to write a description. You’ll have to take my word that it ain’t pretty.

    Curious if everyone has a #19 in their lives…that one task that hangs over them like an unwelcome albatross flying circles over their heads. Ignore it long enough and it’s droppings do a real number on your front lawn.

  4. Janine says:

    @mario

    I had a #19, an albatross around my neck it was. I ignored it so long that the chain broke and it feel off the list. Not that I recommend ignoring it, dealing is always better, but #19 is gone now and flown away…. ooooppppsss sorry mario I hope your albatross doesn’t have a chain attached

  5. Maxene says:

    Oh, THAT 19. How foolish of me. I have a couple of 19′s I’m dealing with, or not, right now. We’ve all had them. Sometimes if you wait long enough they resolve themselves. Most times you have to take some action or you will have a lawn full of bird poop to clean up. Now that’s what I call nasty.

    Really vile? C’mon spill. We can take it.

  6. Josephine says:

    @mario piperni
    Well 75% of the beast is off my chest. I guess that would be considered an improvement.

    I need a Shaman to get rid of the rest! Any suggestions?

    Either that or send a cuban Babalao to remove the beast and get me the 7 African necklaces! Yeah. Maybe that will keep the beast from entering.

    Today I will try anything in the book. So any suggestions are welcome. If you are interested make them fun and colorful. Not up to boring today. LOL

  7. Leonard says:

    @Josephine
    So what exactly is it that you are removing? Not any body parts, I hope?

  8. Josephine says:

    @Leonard
    My body parts are not removable. lol

  9. Maxene says:

    @Josephine You ask for suggestions. One has to have an idea of what the beast is, acknowledge it, face it,,,,and then tell it to take a hike. No Shaman, or 7Necklaces, or a Cuban Babalao can do it. It is up to you.

  10. SJCAlumni1979 says:

    All I can tell you Mario is that until you do #19, you will always have it to do and the feelings of dread associated with not doing it. But once you take care of it you will feel so good nothing will seem impossible. Well, that is until another #19 pops up on the list.

  11. Maxene says:

    @SJCAlumni1979, @Mario There will always be a number 19 of one sort or another. Number 19 always looms in the distance. You just trade one in for another. Although all 19′s pull you down, until it is resolved, there are some 19′s that are more manageable than others. I would counsel you thus. Put 21-25 on the back burner for now. Assuming you’ve completed 18 and 20 today, or even if you haven’t, next task should be number 19 before another 19 comes your way and then you will be stuck with 38. Now if I could only follow my own advise.

  12. Maxene says:

    Good Sunday morning. So is it #19 today? I ask only because my #19 looms so heavy. The question in my mind is, do I begin resolving my #19 or do I grab a book and go to the beach? I’ll probably be trying to answer this question a good part of the morning, for no good reason other than it is simply a way of procrastinating just a little while longer. Then it will be too hot to go to the beach if that is the decision I make. Then ,I will have the chance to think about it this afternoon, until the sun begins to fade and the day cools. At which time I will head to the beach. Yes, that’s exactly what I’ll do, the same as I do every day. Put if off just another day.

    But wait, I’m not done, I ask myself: is the act of thinking about it the beginning of dealing with it? One would think that with all this thinking that task would be complete by now. Too bad it doesn’t work that way. :o

  13. Bill says:

    Perhaps we have stumbled on a functional difference between Conservatives and Liberals.

    Conservatives have no Number 19′s. We bite the bullet and face them down when they arise.

    (Maxene….I don’t know how to make a “tongue-in-cheek” smiley face so just imagine one.)

  14. Leonard says:

    It cannot materialize until it is visualized as a thought. Many books written on visualization. So yes thinking about it is the first step.

  15. Leonard says:

    @Bill
    I am not certain you disrespected this lady above, but if you have with this “tongue in cheek” nonsense I suggest you fix it. Not nice bro. Not nice.

  16. Bill says:

    Come on Sir Galahad. This stuff can be so frigging tiring.

    1. I’m not your “bro”.

    2. I woke up with my sense of humor in fine fettle, but your comment sure dashed some cold water on that.

    3. To the contrary. I understand that my original “comment” might be taken wrong by some who might WISH to take it wrong. (I can’t and won’t be responsible for people’s erroneous perceptions.) So I added in the “tongue in cheek smiley” comment which harkens back to a diatribe maxene posted another day about “smileys”. Wry humor. Not disrespect.

    4. Unlike others, I am more into discussion than “disrespecting” anyone’s comments or thoughts. Basically, I’m just not a person into “disrespect” at all although I am quite capable of “giving as good as I get” if the situation calls for it.

    With that said, if you are not “certain” about something, it may be best to keep quiet about it. And your suggestion to “fix” anything holds no importance for me.

    And I did not necessarily mean this comment to be disrespectful as much as factual.

  17. Leonard says:

    @Bill Well then please accept my humble apology.

  18. Hey, thank you to everyone who has contributed thoughts on confronting my #19 nightmare. I’m now referring to it as a nightmare ’cause I’ve ignored it for so long, it has developed into a grotesque beast with horns and a tail. As for Bill, I did take your comment as you intended, tongue in cheek.

    The good news is that I actually started to deal with #19. It might originally have been dealt with in a couple of days. It’s beyond that now. It’s going to take a week or two but I’ve started. (yippee)

  19. Maxene says:

    Leonard,

    I agree, thinking is the first step to making it happen.
    Now regarding Bill and his disrespectful comment. You were correct originally. He was indeed disrespectful to me for the tongue in cheek comment re the smily face. This is not the first time he has berated me. Nor is it the first time he has berated others. He has consistently been today it.

    So I don’t think you need to apologize to him, because your first instinct was correct. Thank you for coming to my aid.

    Mario the guy was making reference to s nasty remark that he make the other day. He is attempting to anger me by referencing so often.

  20. Maxene says:

    It is apparent that Bill has it in for you Mario and your readers. I dare say, it seems to be a personal vendetta of sorts.

  21. Maxene says:

    Actually, in his response to you Lawrence, he was being sarcastic and nasty while painting himself the saint and accusing others of being guilty of the exact thing he is guilty of. Seems that is his MO

    Now, I’m taking a swim. Have a nice day all.

  22. Bill says:

    I give. I surrender. That’s some large, LARGE paranoid chip. I have neither the time nor inclination to deal with it. Have a wonderful day and a great swim, Maxene.

    (Pssstt….Obviously, Maxene knows more about me than I know about myself. So for the rest of you, “tongue in cheek” was precisely how I meant it. In a “humorously chiding” sort of way as she dressed me down pretty good over the whole “smiley” thing the other day.)

  23. Maria Sofia Belgara says:

    @mario piperni
    Ok my 19 is ready to be realized.

    I gave it all my time and attention for the last 1/2 hour since I read your comment.

    I have now finalized my 19 and I feel a relief! @mario piperni, thank you for the inspiration. :D

  24. Janine says:

    @Bill

    I understood your ‘tongue in cheek’ comment as you meant it– humor

  25. Janine says:

    @Maria Sofia

    wow you dealt with your @19 in record time! I am impressed, what is your secret because I could use the advice.

  26. Maxene says:

    Well, there you go. I think he doth protest too much. The response speaks for itself. I am neither large nor paranoid. One thing I do know is that even in his last remark to me he continues to try to annoy me.Well if that is your game, keep trying buddy. Oh and one other thing, I was not humorously chiding you the other day re the smiley faces. I was damn serious. Now you are dismissed. I’m not dealing with you anymore on any subject and would prefer if you do the same regarding me.

    For those of you that think it is humor take another look. He’s trying to pull the wool over your eyes.

  27. Bill says:

    Sometimes you just can’t win. Just as a note of explanation, I didn’t say “You” were large OR paranoid. I was referring to the chip you seem to have on your shoulder.

    I obviously can’t say anything correct where Maxene is concerned. For everyone else, yes. It was simply a tongue in cheek remark intended to be wryly humorous. I hope it was taken as such.

    So, with that..Taa, taa! I have at least one “19″ that comes into my life every day. Usually more than one. I’m off to deal with them.

  28. Maxene says:

    LOL There you go again, trying to make me into a fool or an idiot. I am well aware you were not saying I was LARGE OR PARANOID. You are simply a bully in every sense of the word. You are also a liar.

    Re your remark to Lawrence which follows — “Unlike others, I am more into discussion than “disrespecting” anyone’s comments or thoughts. Basically, I’m just not a person into “disrespect” at all although I am quite capable of “giving as good as I get” if the situation calls for it. “–

    Give me a break here. You are so full of crap. You are for the most part into “disrespecting” others. You have shown it many times and you know it,so do others.You as well as I know it was NOT tongue in cheek by any means…and yes I dressed you down because you deserved it. You are a nasty man. You like to berate others. I would call THAT low self esteem.

    So go fix your # 19 that I’m sure you created yourself. You ARE a #19 (I say that tongue in cheek of course). :) NOW JUST LEAVE ME ALONE NOW :P

  29. Bill says:

    Well Maxene…you just became one of my little “19′s” for the day. (Hmmm…did I create you?) I’m gonna go pray for you.

    Take care.

  30. Maxene says:

    Oh so uncreative. Do you have to copy me too. I think I just said that. You can’t even come up with your own material.

    NOW YOU STOP FOCUSING ON ME.

  31. Bill says:

    “NOW YOU STOP FOCUSING ON ME.”

    Uhhhh….Okay.

  32. Maria Sofia Belgara says:

    @Janine
    If you focus for 1/2 hour a day on a task that you have been delaying on doing you will find that it wasn’t that bad after all. It was just facing it and doing it, without any interrruptions. It was already 1/3 done.

    My issue is that I tend to do a little bit here and a little bit there and when I look around I have started 20 projects. So then I have to go back and finalize them. I guess that is the way you work in an office. It does not all get done at once.

  33. Janine says:

    @Maria Sofia

    thanks! focus without interruptions. Mmmmm now if I can just find a diplomatic way to tell the interrupters to stop (lol)

  34. Maria Sofia Belgara says:

    @mario piperni
    #19 as everything else is just 90% preparation and 10% actual work. So all of you with all these 19 issues remember you have to do the prep first and it will save you a lot of heartache. As I bet it would have saved you @mario piperni if you would have done your 90% preparation a month ago.
