Where has the music gone?

Sadness indeed, that this country is not, does not, have or feel the pain of the war as we the baby boomers experienced during the horrendous Vietnam war. This lack of pain and direct involvement is what I believe to be the apathy in our current music. With Vietnam the direct involvement that we experienced was the compulsory draft that made each and every girlfriend, boyfriend, sister, brother, mother, father, uncle, teacher… you name it, involved in the war. We don’t have that today so for some people the war is a foreign event that has nothing to do with them. When I talk to neocons and I discuss the war they cannot relate even when they have children that will be of age in 5-6 years. I think the obligatory draft makes a big difference. Also the war in Vietnam reached 550 K US dead and over 220 K South Vietnamese dead which is far beyond the death toll of the current wars. I am not endorsing the current indifference and lack of concern, but yet see why it is happening. But Americans beware, because if the situation aggravates we might have to recur to the all draft policies and then maybe people will pay attention. War with Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan…. Or who knows who else.

I miss the music also… I woke up singing one of the songs this morning “stop children what’s that sound everybody knows what’s going down”…..

janine, and anomaly comes back and proves my point. I have a begrudging respect for most of your commentary. I just find you are sometimes way too easy to jump on whatever liberal bandwagon rolls out for the day, or moment.

Anomaly’s comments tend to run like some little “hanger on to the schoolyard bully”. “Yeah. Yeah. Yeah Spike. Go get ‘em. You tell ‘em Spike!”

@Janine: You are very kind. Really. Thing is, anything that dolt says about you or me that’s in a negative light, is great. She loved George W Bush so I’m glad she doesn’t like Obama. I don’t want Pres Obama to be anything like Cheney’s puppet. She says you’re one of the worst & that’s brilliant, because she defeneds Liz Cheney & her war profiteering Daddy. Anything she likes, I don’t. I respect you & have absolutely none for her. So, it all works out. Everytime she sifts through Webster’s, then writes her little comment, it makes me proud to be a liberal. These days, it sucks to be a Republican & she only confirms that for us.

Democrats try to admit when they are wrong. We did not defend Rod Blagojevich OR his hair! We do not defend the blue doggies. They can have the ones we don’t want. I’ve learned a little bit from the Tennesseans in the Republican Pary & it’s not about Dictionary usage. I’ve learned that if you keep the corrput,the greedy & the war profiteers, you get a corrupt & greedy party that wants a war. So, I’ll let Tennessean defend anything Republican, because it makes her look “stupid”, and us? We’re looking pretty good. (even without a Thesaurus obsession.) :cool:
