Roger Ailes – The BSmeister

.

If you missed ABC’s This Week, you might want to catch the Roundtable segment. It is noteworthy because in attendance was Fox News CEO of Propaganda Roger Ailes.

My favorite part.

AILES: FOX News is fair and balanced. We had Geraldine Ferraro on for 10 years as the only woman the Democrats ever nominated. Now we have the only woman that the Republicans nominated. I’m not in politics, I’m in ratings. We’re winning.

ARIANNA HUFFINGTON: Roger, you clearly are in ratings, but if you are in ratings, can you explain to me why FOX went away from the meeting the president was having in — why did you go away, 20 minutes before the end?

AILES: Because we’re the most trusted name in news.

Do you ever get the feeling that a lot of this stuff is made up by a team of comedy writers from the Daily Show?

You can catch the full segment here.

Says Roger Ailes, who’s crowing like a cock,
“I’m in ratings. I’m winning.” Winning what?
The most biased news in any time slot,
Makes of Sarah Palin a laughing stock
As buyers withdraw ads from Glen Beck’s schlock
While those FOX and Friends turn back the clock
And RepubliCons put their souls in hock.
In politics, Roger Ailes says he is not,
    He’s right, he’s not. Deception’s all he’s got
And fools too dumb to know it’s all a crock
And that they’re sheepish tools in Murdock’s flock.

“And that they’re sheepish tools in Murdock’s flock.”

    To what end Dan?

  3. janine says:

Fair, balanced and the most trusted in news? I do not think they are acquainted with the dictionary because they do not seem to know the meanings of those words…

  4. Waldo Wonk says:

    Ha… Biased, bullshit and bropaganda.

  5. Dan Speers says:

To what end? Build numbers, ratings and sell ads.
Make Murdock rich. Every little bit adds
More wealth to line the pockets of these cads.

  6. Tommy Pane says:

Dan – Murdock sells a product to a willing consumer. How does that make him a cad? It sounds like the free market is working. If the consumers wanted to hear the alternative message, Air America would still be around. No one is being manipulated, unless you think telling people what they want to hear is manipulation.

And what about that, telling people what they what to hear, instead of what you think they should hear? It’s my believe that leaders lead best by encouraging greatness, as opposed to telling people that they need to do more. It’s a subtle difference. Jimmy Carter did what all liberals do; he told the American people how bad things were and that sacrifice was the solution. Reagan told us how to improve things. He encouraged us to improve our own lives and things would get better. We did, and things did.

Liberal media outlets tell people about all the people who are without, and makes it our problem to fix. Fox tells people that each of us can fix our own problems, and that by doing so, we contribute to fixing the larger societal problems.

  7. Jovial says:

    Tommy,

The alternative message is twisted truths and innuendos supplanted by the likes of Beck and company. Is that what you want to encourage ? You like cesspool journalism if you do.

I can tell anybody what they want to hear knowing for a fact that it won’t work. But the uninformed will believe me and will rise out of the ashes of nothing. Is that where greatness comes from? I don’t think so.

Murdock is an australian making lots of money from saps and laughing at the american people to the bank.If you think America should listen to this type of failed journalism, then I question your ethics as a business man.

  8. Tommy Pane says:

Did it ever occur to you Jovial, that what you believe to be lies are actually true?

  9. @Tommy. Joseph Goebbels would have worded it exactly as you did above. Think about that. When it becomes about giving the people anything but the truth, you are dwelling in the realm of propaganda. Fear and a persistent message, as dishonest as it might be, has a tremendous effect on the masses. Just ask Goebbels.

As for Reagan, check out what he did to the national debt. He took spending to highs never before seen. You might want to wipe clean those rose-tinted glasses.

  10. Tommy Pane says:

Propaganda has been the rule in every oppressive government in history. A free and educated people are not influenced by propaganda because they’re able to think for themselves. I put it to you like this however, who would be better served by propaganda; the left with an agenda of larger government, or the right with an agenda of smaller government?

As for Reagan, there are two types of debt: A) debt that’s caused by taking in less money, and B) debt that’s caused by increasing the amount of spending. Reagan increased the national debt by lowering taxes, thus temporarily decreasing the amount of money coming into the federal government. The result stimulated private sector investments that increased the overall tax base, thus eventually generating an increase in revenue for the federal government.

Reagan also increased spending on the military. That type of spending, on hard assets that made each of us saver by eventually ending the cold war, also stirred up the military manufacturing machine. Although I’m not a fan of the military manufacturing machine, it also served to boost the tax base at the time.

Rose-tinted glasses are a hallmark of liberals, not realists.

  11. Tommy, we could debate role of government forever. We have a fundamental disagreement in this area. Fine, but it is not the point I was making nor can you use it as an argument for every issue.

The question you ask about who would be better served by propaganda leads us nowhere. All we need to look at is WHICH side is actually lying with intent? You might disagree with the liberal approach to health care reform but please show me where they’re lying. I, on the other hand, can show you (and have on these pages) shown you where conservatives and repubs have lied through their teeth.

The Germans of the 1930s were a free and educated people. We know the results. Unfortunately, propaganda works on the masses and Republicans, along with their allies in the conservative media, have mastered the art.

  12. Tommy Pane says:

You’re right, I disagree. I would contend however, that BOTH sides are lying with intent.

  13. “…BOTH sides are lying with intent” – Mr. T. Pane

Convenient statement but unless you can show me exactly where dems have lied with intent, your contention carries no weight.

  14. janine says:

The role of the news outlets is to report, not to tell us ‘what we want to hear’ Fox panders to those of our populace that is less than educated or discerning. It also panders to those of our populace that lean to the conservative left and have an agenda of hate and lies and which dispenses false information. Seeking only to destroy

  15. Tommy Pane says:

The Germans of 1930 were educated and free, but under severe economic strains and national humiliation. Their mistake, was to not question the “facts” presented by their leaders. By thinking that dems haven’t lied with intent, are you, as a follower of the dems, doing the same thing?

The independants seem to be leading the charge of reasoned thought in this country.

  16. janine says:

“The independants seem to be leading the charge of reasoned thought in this country.”

Well since it appears most the independants swallow Fox News lies and misinformation. God help us all if they are the example of reasoned thought

  17. BORICUA says:

@Tommy Pane Good point Tommy. It was the famous study conducted by Dr. Stanley Milgram on not questioning authority and accepting same as the final truth. I agree with you.

How do you know a politician is lying? He is moving his lips!

@janine I wish that the newscasters were out there to report the truth. The truth gets convoluted by the time it reaches us and the networks are just out there to make the big bucks, no matter whether or not the truth is reported. It is all a perception of the reporters… which in turn is not the truth after all.

  18. Scott says:

“The President of Fox News Reveals How Its Motto Should Read”

Roger Ailes is far worse than just grating:
“I’m NOT in politics, I’m in ratings!”
    Implies Mr. Ailes,
    Uninformed really sells!
“We don’t report, you can’t decide.”
    Nauseating!!

  19. Jovial says:

    Tommy,

”The Germans of 1930 were educated and free, but under severe economic strains and national humiliation.”

After eight lowsy years of Republican incompetence, where do we find ourselves today? I would confidently say that we’re under real economic strain and humiliation caused by the Bush Cheney tag team. Our world standing has dropped importantly and Obama has to swim in this prior mess. Luckily today people can ask or question the facts of their leaders and Obama proved this week that Republicans always put a spin on things and he was able to counter them.

Independents are in a great position with Humpty Dumpty on the fence. I would wager that if they get power, they would encounter the same difficulties. Republicans had their eight years and miserably led us down the tubes. I haven’t seen any policy paper from independents that would make us any better. So where do you get your evidence of reasoned thought with no paper to prove it ?
