CNN has really lost their way and can not stop their car from veering right. It is not just Erikson, also Gloria Borger always looks like she has a mouth full of poop if she has to say something positive about the Dems or Obama. All of the other political commentators are right wing too. Campbell Brown, a carbon copy of Gloria.
If you look at their web site, it most always has right leaning interpretations. I just sent them a complaint a few days ago about their reporting of their own poll that they do with the right wing WSJ. When the results were 51 to 49 for the right, they said “most people think”. When the results were left leaning they would say, 1 in 4 agree with the right.
I think that corporatism has ruined what was the best news organization out there.
CNN has the right to hire who they want. Balance is a good thing. I like diversity of thought and MSNBC is leaning too much to the left. FOX too much to the right. That does not make a good debate. There should never be networks that are leaning completely to the right or to the left. That is not GOOD REPORTING!
I do not have a problem if a network is openly right or left if they do not lie. Fox seems to lie a lot; MSNBC seems to spend most of their prime time exposing the Fox lies, but not spreading any left wing lies.
What is most dangerous is a network that has leanings, but tries to pawn themselves off as balanced, but their biases hang out for those that are astute enough to catch them – which is the problem with CNN. That is far more dangerous because people will believe them that think they are middle of the road.
What would be my ideal kind of political discussion format?
Not what CNN does right now which is get someone to spin from the right and someone to spin from the left with the CNN moderator not having to use one brain cell to analyze what if what is being said it truth or fiction. They just are time keepers to give each person equal time to spin their story. How do you think that myths such as death panels and Obama’s not a US citizen got legs. We can not just blame the Fox lies…the mainstream media would let these types of statements get argued out as if there was not right or wrong information that is being projected. If you run a political news program and you do not call out the lies, yourself, you are aiding and abetting the liars.
Back to what I would like to see done. Political talk shows needs an entirely new structure. The programs should invite only people that are knowledgeable PLUS have no dog in the fight. It might be hard to find these types of panelists, but a few programs with this type of participation would be successful, there would be people that would meet the need. The universities are full of people that know how to think and present unslanted information. Without the wide swings to the left and right, which is the norm now, we just might learn the truth about a many things.
