Mistermix over at BalloonJuice makes a great point regarding Romney and his record. Mitt’s one selling point has been his years of experience running Bain Capital and his role as a supposed job creator and expert in growing an economy . Now, with the brewing controversy over Bain’s activities in outsourcing and other un-American activities, no more. Any mention of Romney and Bain now carries the danger of someone bringing up the years 1999 to 2002 – a time when Romney was CEO, president and sole shareholder of Bain but, we are told, was completely clueless as to the company’s activities. Instead of embracing his Bain record, Romney now runs from it.
Mention of Romney’s four years as governor of Massachusetts is also a taboo topic as far as the campaign is concerned. Any mention of Governor Romney invites comparisons between Romneycare and the health care law Republicans are hoping to repeal. Romney’s governorship also exposes the dismal job record he racked up. Not a happy story for one who brands himself as The Great Job Creator.
So…
If these two parts of his bio are out of play, the only thing left is his service as a stake president in the Mormon Church (which he also keeps on the d/l), his work at the Olympics (as a government welfare queen) and his six years of running for President. Make a stump speech out of that, I dare you.
What is left is three months of Romney and his surrogates making little mention of Romney’s past while they pray that the economy takes a serious dive. It’s their only hope.
Romney supposedly wants to run on his record. That’s a glaring example of Republican double-speak.
Romney has a history of secretive behavior via destroying records and hiding as much as possible (things that couldn’t be destroyed because he didn’t have control of the records, i.e. the SEC filings).
Here’s an article outlining what happened to records from his time as governor of Massachusetts:
Opine: Hiding years of not paying taxes, total worth, offshore holdings (In dollars and locations), and maybe a serious case of a ‘shadow company’ in the Bahamas. If he releases the returns and reporters dig into the shadow company,.that alone will tarnish him beyond belief. McCain saw the returns, thus reports of him mixing Romney as a VP prospect
.
My neighbors call President Obama the “N” word openly and tell me the country needs a businessman like Mitt to be elected president in order to straighten the economy out. I kid you not. They place all the blame for the problems of this country on the Democrats and that “Socialist” Obama. These are homeowners and parents and small business owners and working people. It’s simply stunning to listen to them.
If I’m able to gently and successfully point out the false premises behind any aspect of their conclusions then they just revert to the same old argument that both sides are the same and all politicians are alike. This is Republican strategy at work. The brain trust in the republican party believes that if you can get people to hate government enough, then the party that professes to hate government the most will be the marginal winner with the electorate.
Talk about a scorched earth policy in a naked quest for power. That’s no way to lead a country into an uncertain and challenging future. It’s actually very reprehensible, awful politics and to my mind, un-American..
Liberal’s comments do not surprise me at all. Basically, the comments and use of the “N” word validates the disdain with which many in the nation see a president who is not a ‘white male’ (to be frank”. Now, add to that mix a person (highly intelligent, well spoken and focused beyond belief) who is black and that add a more panic factor to the mix. Those very people will not turn away from Fox News and GOP rhetoric to review one piece of data abut the Sub-prime bubble (Especially to view the Matt Damon narrated documentary), and they will cover their eyes before look at any data that contradicts their paradigm. Yes, deep down they are racist. I use that word sparingly with more prefers for bigotry. But, Liberal is speaking of unadulterated racist. They factually, fertile ground for the GOP. Oh, and they would take Bush/Cheney and a deep recession back in a heartbeat rather than another day with Obama in the White House. How very shallow.
I get into debates with my mother-in-law about Romney. She, like a lot of Republicans and teabaggers, seems to think that there’s something magic about potential presidents having business experience. What business schools do teach is how to maximize profits whatever the human cost is and how to screw your competitors to further that goal.
The purpose of a government is not to make a profit but to serve the people it governs. When a corporation serves customers it does so not as its promary activity but in furtherance of its profit. For a government to act in such a way is irresponsible.
As someone who has put in time trying to motivate groups of people and get them all pointed towards the same goal, I can truthfuully say that anyone who belittles President Obama for having been a “community organizer” is 100% out of line, and probably has a deep-seated contempt for their fellow humans.

Right on! One need only look at their cable company or telco company. Verizon and Comcast, for example, screw their customers left and right–all in the name of profit. The remedy is to find another provider that offers a better deal.
The government is supposed to look out for the interests of the people. But which people, which interests? The remedy is supposed to be elections, but unfortunately, the interests with the most money get to buy the politicians they want. Executive, legislative, and judicial, in today’s America–they own it all.

He’s possibly hiding, as Joe Scarborough suspects, that there were years when Mitt paid ZERO taxes. Wait until that comes out. It will eventually.
