The 86-year-old governor of a southern Indian state resigned, a day after a television news channel broadcast a tape allegedly showing him in bed with three women.
Actually, I don’t really think it’s cool or great or anything. I don’t really care one way or another. What I do find interesting are the comments to this article which highlight the double standards prevalent in society when it comes to men and women.
“You go guy!”
“Three women at 86-years-old? Give that man a gold medal!”
“Hero!”
If this story was of an 86 year old female politician in bed with three men, the comments would surely be along the lines of…
“Tramp!”
“Whore!”
It’s the same kind of thinking that has conventional wisdom dictating that Tiger Woods takes a minor hit over the next year or so and then rebounds. He’ll lose a few sponsors for the time being and play a few less tournaments. By 2012 he’s back in full force with sponsors knocking his door down with offers and fans lining up to catch a glimpse of the rock star golfing stud. If Tiger were a woman, her career would be over. No company wants a “tramp” pitching their product.
At times it can’t be easy being a woman living in a man’s world.
Excellent observations, as usual, Mario. It is, alas, still very much a man’s world, despite some progress – especially with respect to “cavorting”. Trust me; women have just as big a bag of wild oats to sow as men; we just plant fewer and straighter rows. LOL For the record, many women find Tiger to be a man-whore and have lost all respect for him. I, for one, am completely appalled by the “no condom” allegation – it’s one thing to be sleeping around and quite another to be endangering your spouse’s health.
I can’t even give Tiger the benefit of the doubt and adjudge him with a sexual addiction issue. I just don’t buy it in his case. It seems much more an ego management problem of a spoiled brat in a man’s body.
In any event – you are spot on; the male-dominated golfing world will forgive and admire – if quietly, and the sponsors will come back.
I just wish that people’s extramarital affairs would not be treated as if this person, male or female, was the first person that ever cheated on their spouses or significant other. Infidelity is not the right thing to do and is extremely harmful to the marriage and the person being cheated on. The only thing that would make that situation worse is to have it blasted all over the media ad nauseum.
I just am not interested in seeing the main stream media go overboard with this stuff. Leave this to the tabloids. The only way that this stuff is becomes relevant to the public is when the cheater has compromised national security or affected governance with their extracurricular activities.
When a male teacher is caught with a young teenage girl, people go crazy. Somewhat recently, a female teacher was caught sleeping with a young teenage boy & the comments were: “hey, I wish I had a teacher like that when I was a kid!” and, “Lucky kid!.” It’s wrong no matter what. I’m glad you posted this Mario.
