What’s A Conservative To Do?

The RedState Update boys take a look at birthers and the problems facing conservatives in an Obama era.  Makes one think how difficult it must be these days to be a wingnut.  There’s nothing out there to cheer for.

    This is very funny, and right on the money.

    An increasing number of so-called Republicans are believing right wring fear-based ideas. We can see how swiftly these ideas can become more mainstream. The GOP is becoming more like right-wing extremists.

    The Republican party is fighting a losing battle with the lunatic fringe. If the far right takes over, the party will be toast. As the country becomes more diverse, they are pushing a pro white male agenda. They are pushing themselves into extinction. They are moving in the wrong direction. It’s a case of an ultra-vocal minority attempting to hijack & derail the country’s more crucial political direction and true GOPs have to keep a constant vigil against it! There are some smart righties out there, but unfortunately when you are in lock step, it’s hard to have any perspective.

  2. Hank says:

    I look at stuff like this two ways.

    First, it really is funny. I don’t care who you are, if you can’t look at this and find it humorous on some level, you need to have your funny bone checked out.

    The problem is that too many will be willing to look at something like this and think yep, all Southerners, Republicans and Conservatives are just like that.

    That would be akin to watching some PETA nut staple themselves to a KFC parking lot in the nude in protest of treating chickens poorly and saying yep, all Liberals are just like that.

    But it is funny.

  3. mario says:

    The problem is not that all conservatives are loonies but one where the mainstream is sounding more radical with each passing week. When a number of House repubs start buying into the birther craze, for example, it makes the entire party look 2nd class.

    The Republican party has a dilemma on its hands. For too long it’s pandered to the fringe element of the party. This was easier to do when a Republican sat in the White House because the radicals were basically satisfied and all that was required was to throw them a bone now and then. With Obama now as president, the crazies in the party cannot be contained. We end up with tea party nutcases, birthers, white supremacist groups, pro-life extremists and gun rights advocates all shouting at the same time. The collective noise from all these groups is what’s tearing the party apart.

  4. Tommy Pane says:

    @Hank, I want to see that nude liberal stapled to a KFC parking lot. That would be hot.

  5. walter says:

    I was raised up with two saying.The SOUTH will rise again.an history always repeats it self.you can’t conserve anything when the democrats are taking it away an giving to all the Mexicans an the other dead beats that can’t think for themselves they go with what they are told by someone they think is smart an there same color.Obama has always thought he was Abe Lincon an try to be like him so there goes you civil war.

  6. janine says:

    @walter,

    you’ve given me the vapors. The south will rise again, history always repeats itself and there goes your civil war? Really? If the south does rise again then history will repeat itself and the south will fall again. Are you really advocating civil war here? If you think the country is being ruined now, that would really ruin it.

    And what exactly are the democrats taking away and giving to the Mexicans? and who are the other deadbeats? I’m confused…..

    I’m pretty sure there are deadbeats of every color….

  7. janine says:

    @Tommy Pane

    Very funny!

    As for me, I think the strippy shirt guy is smart and hot.

  8. Maria Sofia Belgara says:

    Republicans are not loonies they are human beings with lunatic ideas. Can’t we just attack the acts? Jeez! Its not that difficult.

    Insisting on attacking human beings with dissenting ideas… I don’t get it and never will and will always revert to this. What is funny is that when I read these things I get lost in the attacks and I miss the point anyone is making. So the point is then fruitless and not communicated. At least not to me and you lose me.

    As far as I am concerned it is inexcusable to attack other humans regardless of their acts, ideals, race, or background. It would be acting and lowering our own standards to theirs. Would we not be just as bad as them?

    Does not make me laugh it makes me sad to hear people talk about others that way.

    Condemning individuals with dissenting voices… while doing the same thing!

  9. Maria Sofia Belgara says:

    @janine
    Hope you are turned on by the strippy shirt guy for real, because if not that was not nice at all.

  10. Maxene says:

    Maria,

    May I be so bold as to say that I think Janine was joking with Tommy about the guy in the video that Mario posted. I don’t know what was not nice about it.

    also @Tommy, OK, what you said was cute

    @ Walter,,,HUH? Ummm,,,,have no idea What you were saying

    and @ Janine I love your response to @Walter. my sentiments (I think) exactly)

    @everyone have a lovely evening.

  11. Maria Sofia Belgara says:

    @Maxene
    @Janine

    You find it a joke to laugh at another human being because of the way the person looks and speaks?

  12. Maxene says:

    Hi,

    @Maria,,,,sorry you may not understand. The video was intended to be funny. These guys were doing a bit. They were dressed up to LOOK funny. They said things to MAKE US LAUGH. It is called humor.

    No one is making fun of anyone because of how they look or speak. Perhaps you should ask the moderator here to explain it. No one though, was laughing at anyone. It is called political satire.

    I have to go now, but I can explain more tomorrow if you’d like.

    Be well,
    Maxene

  13. Janine says:

    @Maria Sofia Belgara,

    I apologize if I offended thee. I was attempting to add a little levity to the situation and I am indeed sorry if my brand of humor isn’t for you. But to be fair, if you are going to single me out for the comment you’ll need to single out Tommy Pane as well or was his comment okay with you? Indeed all of us here, at times, make humorous/satirical comments.

    As was recently pointed out in this blogosphere, political correctness has little place here, it hinders.

  14. Maria Sofia Belgara says:

    @everyone
    Respect for other human beings does not have a little place in society or this blog. Respect is what Mario is asking of all of us. And calling politicians, or dissenting individuals names is not politcally correct or incorrect, it is disrespectful.

    If respect hinders this blog then mario is contradicting himself.

  15. Hank says:

    Janine..”Vapors”?? Tee Hee, Tee Hee!!!!

    Maria…to paraphrase an old Don McLean song, “This ‘blog’ was never meant for one as beau-ti-ful as youuuuuuuu!”

  16. Janine says:

    @Maria Sofia Belgara

    Of course respect does not have a little place in society or in this blog. But are you really going to make this comment section in this blog your line in the sand Maria? Political satire and humor abounds in political and other blogs. Comment sections in blogs are meant for personal commentary not political correctness. Comedians utilize humor all the time regarding groups of people or one person. Is what they do okay? Are you going to write to them and ask them to stop? Have you checked out the comment string on any You Tube vid? Perhaps those folks need admonitions as well. Comedy, satire, banter, are all used to interject laughter into otherwise tough subject matters. It is an acceptable form of self expression.

    I watched this vid again. It is funny, these two guys are making fun of themselves and the ‘red way.’ Are you going to write to them to ask them to respect each other and not make derogatory statements about others?

    I understand your point Maria. However, I give you fair warning, you are probably not going to like my comments or my pieces.

  17. Janine says:

    @Hank

    hey, can you email me at jof9@hotmail.com, I have an idea I want to run past you. ty

  18. VP says:

    Maria, people like you are what’s wrong with the world – you scream and cry and tear your hair and rend your garments because MY GOD, PEOPLE ARE MEAN! Live with it! People are a-holes!

    If you’re going to roll around on the ground and throw a damn tantrum whenever someone doesn’t do things the way you want them to, then you aren’t going to be doing much with your life.

    In other comment threads, Mario’s stated that dragging things off-topic won’t be tolerated – I suggest you listen.

  19. Hank says:

    VP…So why did you go off topic and particularly out of your way to be rude, insulting and condescending to a lady who for all intent and purposes, seems to be a genuinely nice person?

  20. SUPERwoman says:

    You know about that “tell” thing we discussed,Mario? Yep, everyone has a tell, and I fully understand why VP went there.It ain’t easy.

  21. Maria Sofia Belgara says:

    @Hank
    I will adapt to this environment so as to see things a bit more like you all are indicating but with a better understanding of same. Thank you to all that shared their comments whether good or bad, I hear you.

    I will make sure that I disseminate my thoughts in this blog so as not to in any way criticize you all. It will be more like self-depracating after all I have heard. He he…
