Jon Stewart Tackles The 9/11 Trial

Jon Stewart’s take on the 9/11 trial hysteria is spot on.  The Rudy Giuliani segment pretty much tells you where Republicans are on this one. It’s less about fear of anything as much as it has to do with Obama bashing. Surprise.

  1. Tennessean says:

    mario says, “It’s less about fear of anything as much as it has to do with Obama bashing.”

    That is a patently false statement. Many of us simply feel, and for many reasons, this is simply a bad decision and the wrong way to proceed. If Reagan or Bush had proposed the same action, I would be opposed to it just as well. You guys do yourself no service dismissing all opposition as simply being “Anti-Obama”.

    On the larger scale, I do feel it is yet another example of his general incompetence and inexperience. But no Mario, I feel this is simply the wrong thing to do.

    Obama is no longer a relevant enough matter to raise my concern. I am simply treading water until his one term is over. The sooner this charlatan can be gotten out of office, the better for MY country.

  2. Frances says:

    Does Giuliani even remember what he’s said in the past?

    Nancy Grace is the proverbial neighbor lady on too much bourbon.

    It’s funny how TN tries to refute Mario’s point by underscoring it.

  3. Tennessean says:

    Okay, I responded to Mario’s comment without watching the video. Why? Because Stewart is an entertainer and a comedian. I expect him to be entertaining and funny. I have now watched it, and he was.

    On the other hand, Mario’s comment was speculative commentary with which I firmly disagree. So……

    Stewart is funny. Very funny!!!

    Mario, in my opinion, is wrong. And for him or anyone else to imply I think he is wrong SIMPLY because I don’t care for Obama is…..well…..cowardly….for lack of a better word.

  4. TonyM says:

    Then explain the Giuliani flip around for us. The Bush years Giuliani in contrast to the Obama years Giuliani.

  5. janine says:

    @Tennessean,

    Almost everything the Republicans say these days is about Obama bashing. Fox news is about Obama bashing and Republican talking points are about Obama bashing. Discussions have ceased to be ‘policy disagreements’ and have concentrated on bashing Obama about every little thing.

  6. Tennessean says:

    Tony, why ask me to explain Giuliani’s anything? I have no idea what is and/or was going on in his mind? Maybe he changed his mind at some point? A lot has happened in the 3+ years between comments. Maybe he sees some sort of “difference”? Why not ask him?? I try not to speculate on something I have no knowledge of, or at least, not enough knowledge of to form my own opinion.

  7. Tennessean says:

    janine, Obama bashing or disagreement with Obama’s radically liberal agenda?

    You see it one way. Many see it another.

  8. janine says:

    @Tennessean

    how is bashing how Obama bows to the Japanese Head of State disagreeing with his agenda?

  9. Tennessean says:

    janine, I agree with you. But Obama created this tempest in a teapot when he didn’t bow to the Queen of England but did bow to the Saudi Arabian (?) guy. (Although I’m not sure commenting on it rises to “bashing”.)

    I do not disagree there is a degree of plain old, simple bashing going on. But not all disagreement is “bashing”. You guys tend to label all opposition to Obama as “bashing”.

  10. janine says:

    @Tennessean

    I have repeatedly requested you not lump me in with ‘you guys’ comments. It marginalizes individuality, at best. Knock it off.

    I have also repeatedly indicated that not all disagreement is ‘bashing’ but the ‘bashing’ continues as ‘bashing’ not policy disagreement. Turn on Fox, give it a listen and in just 5 minutes you’ll understand the difference between bashing and disagreement.

  11. Tennessean says:

    janine, sorry, but in my opinion, the shoe fits you better than most.

    Further, on the one hand you say, “not all disagreement is ‘bashing’” but most of the time, as best I can determine, you label disagreement in colorful terms, all of which pretty much amount to the same thing.

    Please, please, please…..I’m not certain you have much room to lament “marginalizing” anyone.

    Who or what you or anyone else chooses to “bash” is not necessarily the point where I am concerned. The hypocrisy exhibited by either side that only the OTHER side does it is what I take issue with.

    And will continue to take issue with. I take issue with Mario’s statement. I found the sketch by Stewart very funny.

  12. janine says:

    @Tennessean

    again with the straw throwing.

    Take issue all you want….. however, I am an individual, the comments I make issue forth from me and no one else, do not reference me as “you people”

  13. Tennessean says:

    janine, whatever. And you again with the “straw” b.s.

    Perhaps if you wish to be viewed differently, you should distance yourself more certainly from the “you people” crowd. I’ll be more than happy to encourage you in such an effort any way I can.

    But again, I’ll note I see you usually have little difficulty in lumping anyone of opposing thought in as a “birther”, “teabagger”, “wingnut” or your fav, “batsh-tfkingcrazy”! ;-)

    Peace.

  14. janine says:

    @Tennessean

    Look, you keep trying to put me into some sort of ‘you people’ corral, refusing to entertain the notion my thoughts are my own. And when I request you not do so, you just keep it up –

  15. Tennessean says:

    janine, Look, you keep trying to put me into some sort of “birther”, “teabagger”, “wingnut” “batsh-tfkingcrazy” corral, refusing to entertain the notion my thoughts are my own.

    And that’s hypocritical Janine. Hypocrisy. That’s the issue with me.

    The issue is neither you or I. The issue is not even the Stewart Clip. Or it shouldn’t be. The issue to me, was the accompanying statement by Mario. I stated my disagreement with that.

    Subsequently, I ignored Frances’ statement, responded to a couple others. You made the statement that “Almost everything the Republicans say these days is about Obama bashing.” Then essentially tried to say you didn’t say that and chastise me for lumping you in with a crowd which I happen to think you belong.

    You asked me not to. I will try to comply with your wishes. But you further want me to say you’re right about it and I am wrong to view you in that crowd. I can’t do that.

    I will however endeavor to not lump you in with the “crowd” out of respect for your wishes but certainly not because I think you are an exception.

    Why don’t “you guys” stick to the subject? The only thing about this post to “discuss” would be Mario’s comments and our subsequent commentary.

    If you want me to discuss Stewart’s skit, I’ll have to say I thought it was hilarious and he made the point that Giuliani contradicted himself. I don’t know why he did. Maybe he changed his mind. (I addressed that.) Maybe things are different now. (I addressed that.) Maybe he’s just stupid. Who knows?

    But it’s not about me, you, Frances or anyone else. It’s about two opposing philosophies or directions of thought. And further, for me at least, it’s about the ongoing, rampant hypocrisy from BOTH SIDES that only the OTHER side is capable of ignorance.

  16. Anomaly100 says:

    @Janine: He/She or my favorite, “It” seems to put any Democrat in the “you people” pile. It’s long winded today I see. You are still the worst & I’m so jealous!

  17. Tennessean says:

    Chester, nothing to be jealous of. Janine makes a point every once in a while and isn’t incessantly just nipping at people’s heels like some bothersome little chihuahua.

    (Random Ruminations from the “It” factory.)

  18. Anomaly100 says:

    It is insignificant to me. Also, I’m not jealous of Janine. I hold her in high regard & think she makes a point *every* time. ;-)

  19. Dahl says:

    RE: Obama Bashing:

    Anything the GOP said after “I want Obama to Fail” and vowing to ‘stop Obama in his tracks’ will be seen as disingenuous or Obama bashing. They set themselves up from thereon in to have an ajenda.

  20. Tennessean says:

    Dahl, Only certain representatives said those things and actually, didn’t really say them in that limited context. Still, why use that as a basis to dismiss disagreement from ANY source?

  21. MARYKAY says:

    well i think it is a bit of obama bashing,it was great when bush was in office but now that we have a democratic president its all different change of opinion because we oppose everything he stands for. rudy is just an idiot any way,gretchen carleson bleaches her hair too much its gotten to her brain,i would love to see this trial.the trials from iraq drove me nuts we couldnt under stand the translators,and there were so many delays and court room antics.the crime didnt happen in pakistan it happend here so the trial should be here.

  22. MARYKAY says:

    i just wanted t say i love jon stewart and its about time to call out all these people who have double standards,jon does a great job he is a very funny man and keep going jon,call them out,show them who they really are and how bad they really look.i just wanted to comment also about the bow the president did and how they are putting him down about it,the problem is no one from the gop has any manners,they dont know a thing about protocol,or have consideration towards other traditions,bushed kissed a saudi prince and held his hand???????,nixon bowed,so did eisenhower bush sr.threw up on someone and cheney shot his friend in the face! obama is considerate,has manners,he shows it,they should take some lessons from him show some manners show you care instead of telling the world to kiss your butts and just showing ignorance.i think thats one of the reasons the world hated cheney,iognorance was all around him. he showed nothing but bad attitude,still does.
