“When you look at unbalanced people, how they respond to the vitriol that comes out of certain mouths about tearing down the government. The anger, the hatred, the bigotry that goes on in this country is getting to be outrageous. And unfortunately, Arizona I think has become sort of the capital. We have become the mecca for prejudice and bigotry.”
I believe that blaming all hatred of government on bigotry or ignorance, is either short-sighted or purposefully deflective.
The number of people who understand that personal freedom is gained through personal responsibility, is increasing, and that’s the market that Murdoch has recognized as being under served. His audience is being taught that to the degree that you give the government responsibility for your life, you give up a corresponding degree of personal liberty.
It doesn’t take a genius to understand that message.
Come on down to sand land. Get a dose of what they’re selling to the electorate. Then tell me about racism and bigotry and how that ties in so nicely with personal responsibility. Murdoch makes his money by among other things selling naked capitalism as a cure-all and vilifying “the other”. And when it doesn’t work out he’ll be off counting his money somewhere and the rest of us will be stuck dealing with the carnage as we are this weekend. In his system you can never be good enough or responsible enough. The bar is always being raised and the speed of the hamster wheel is continually being increased just when you think you might have finally arrived. His true genius is in his ability to use his empire to “educate” the easily deceived into believing in things that work against their own self interests. It doesn’t take a genius to figure that out.
It needed to be said. Thank you sheriff for saying it. You’ll probably take heat, especially from the FOX noise machine, but so what. Sometimes a stand has to be taken. It would be ok for people in Congress and people on tv and radio to say almost anything if we lived in a nation where everyone is sane and reasonable, but we don’t. If this killer wasn’t encouraged by all of the rhetoric, how about the next one? When will we say “enough is enough”? Let’s disagree and debate but not spread hate and fear. If we disagree with health-care reform, that’s fine. Let’s just not label it something that it isn’t. People who are afraid can be dangerous. Thoughts and prayers to all of the victims and their families. A full and speedy recovery to the survivors physically and emotionally.
People send out a message. They know who they are, and they know precisely what they want to happen. They know that only an insane person would act on their message. So that absolves them of any guilt or association when something bad happens.Lunatics can always be counted upon to do the dirty work. How could they possibly be responsible for the actions of a crazy person? Palin may be too dumb to realize that her mouth is a loaded weapon, but then she is also not capable of showing the humility or integrity it would take to admit that her little map and other coupling of gun action and voter action were ill-considered.
That’s the game. And it’s being played. Glenn Beck stated on TV that Obama’s Administration was full of “vicious, evil people” and that Pres. Obama was a racist with a deep-seated hatred of white people. Day in, day out, on and on and on about how the government is out to get you. Acorn, Soros, the Tides Foundation, Van Jones. Humanitarians and social justice advocates – all enemies of the people. You don’t have to be a dog to hear the whistle, but you do need to be tea-total crazy to act on it.
That’s what sells ad time on Faux. Murdoch is a genius. He saw an under served market and made a bunch of money.
