There are no sensible gun laws which Republicans are willing to even consider. In their little minds, any common sense restriction is a first move toward taking away their 2nd Amendment rights.

@janine We might have to risk it, or they might start shooting at us for trying to enter the 21st century. You see, I think they are trying to keep the whole world from progressing. Insane, I know, but that’s what the evidence indicates.
I don’t care if people need a gun to keep them warm at night. I don’t care if they think deadly force is necessary to protect their homes. More often than not they’re going to end up capping a relative or friend. I don’t care. It’s the people who walk around town strapped that are the real douches in my opinion. I often wonder what goes on in the mind of someone who thinks they need instant death, always at the ready, no matter where they are. Is that supposed to be some definition of civilized behavior? We all have our guns at the ready so we better behave? What happened in Tucson happened so quickly, was over so quickly, that having more armed “citizenry” waving their guns around and possibly discharging them into a populated area is simply nuts. In this Tucson situation I think it would simply cause more confusion and make the job of law enforcement even more difficult. The bad guy was the one with the gun.
good point about the Repubs wanting to keep the whole world from progressing. I agree, that’s what the evidence indicates. I travel back and forth between optimism and it’s shirttail cousin that the America People will pick progress instead of returning to the times of women as chattel and he who has the biggest gun and the most power wins.
What would have happened if a good guy ran to the shooting and saw another good guy with a gun and shot at that good guy ,who than thought that good guy was another bad guy,and than another good guy came and saw 2 guys shooting so he thought they were 2 bad guys,so he started to shoot ,when suddenly the Police came and saw these guys shooting at each other,so they started to shoot not knowing what was going on,etc.etc.etc.What a lovely day that would be for gun owners,they could all get their chance to practice gun control
One of the most common reasons given for handgun ownership is “home defense” or “self defense”. Look at it this way: in either of those situations, a person is facing one, two, maybe three others. If you can’t deal with one or two people at close range with a standard clip, you don’t deserve to own a gun in the first place.

I understand your point of view. I grew up in a small mountain town, around guns all my life, my father took us target shooting. But we were taught responsible gun ownership. Today, a an adult, I’d like to see a no gun policy but am willing to compromise on no assault weapons. Those are just not needed for “defending the home turf” or hunting.
While there are a lot of sensible gun owners out there they are a dying breed replaced by the more foolish among us; those with poor impulse control and they are a scary scary bunch of coconuts
I own a pellet gun that I got when I was around twelve years old. CO2 powered, it shoots BBs or .177 caliber pellets This is enough to tell me that I can hit a bullseye at thirty feet, and one really bad year, I became quite adept at shooting rats. This is enough to demonstrate that I have a certain amount of skill at marksmanship. I’ve never felt the need for anything bigger, more lethal nor more powerful. The one time someone tried to break into my home, I ran him off with a sword (I think it was the shock value that really did it – think about it – you enter what you think is an empty house and find yourself facing someone weilding a two-handed knife three feet long).
I don’t need a Glock or an extended magazine to prove my accuracy. I don’t need a big gun to make up for other perceived inadequacies. Marksmanship is a skill, and if you can ski, it’ll help you win a biathlon. The only reason it continues to have value in modern society is the aggression of others.
Republicans claim guns aren’t the problem Republicans want to ban guns from around members of Congress. I see this as a contradiction. Mr. Frank said the wishes there would have been “one more gun”. When Lawrence called him on it at first he said he meant, “in the hands of a responsible person”. There was a gun in the hands of a “responsible person”. It was in the hands of a citizen with a permit if I’m not mistaken. Was he not a “responsible person”? When Franks was pressed further he said in the hands of a policeman. Who and why are we electing people like this? We’ve become a nation of DWTS,, Lindsey Lohan, Sarah Palin, watching citizens with our eyes off the ball. We need gun control and we need it now. Aren’t “gun shows” unregulated?, where almost anyone can purchase a gun? After this tragedy we are focused more with the half-term Governor from Wazilla than with the real issue, “gun control”. Let’s wake up for our own good or at least for our children. There’s more than enough children getting shot from guns in the hands of some who have no business having a gun in their hands. Crazy people, disgruntled employees, gangbangers, estranged spouses, pro-life lunatics,like Scot Rhoeder, and many more who shoot innocent people ALL have one thing in common. A GUN!!! It makes a brave person out of an otherwise coward.

Republicans are going to have to be dragged into the 21st century. They refuse to enter willingly.
@Arthur
I fear that if we try to drag the Repubs into the current century they’ll just shoot anyone who so tries
@janine We might have to risk it, or they might start shooting at us for trying to enter the 21st century. You see, I think they are trying to keep the whole world from progressing. Insane, I know, but that’s what the evidence indicates.
