Bill Clinton got the job done in record time.

The North Korean leader, Kim Jong-il, pardoned two jailed American journalists, the official KCNA news agency has reported, according to Reuters. The report came after former President Bill Clinton met with the reclusive and ailing Mr. Kim in Pyongyang on Tuesday.

Mr. Kim granted “a special pardon,” KCNA said in a statement. It was not clear how rapidly the two journalists, Laura Ling, 32, and Euna Lee, 36, might be allowed to leave the country. They were being held near Pyongyang after having been sentenced to 12 years at hard labor for entering North Korea illegally.

The pardon added to speculation among analysts in Seoul that North Korea, after months of raising tensions and hostile rhetoric towards Washington, may be ready to return to dialogue with Washington.

Imagine that.  No chest pounding.  No carry a big stick BS talk.  No “do what we say or we’ll bomb the hell out of you” bluster.   Just smart old-fashioned diplomacy by a respected former president.  After eight years of rule by neocons, how refreshing to once again see what respect and dialog can do when given the chance.  Can anyone imagine a George W. Bush being called in to anywhere in the world to temper down a dispute of any sort?  Not in this lifetime…unless it was a chili cookoff dispute in Midland Texas.

The only question now is how soon the right-wing media spins this thing in claiming that Clinton made the US look weak.

Once again Clinton proves he is indeed the original Great Communicator. And like you said, without all the pomp and circumstance.

It also proves that Obama’s management skills top all other Presidents. He knows how to hire the best in their field. I always wondered why presidents kept in their little bubble and used just his cabinet rather then call in experts from University’s and Think tanks all over the country. We now see a collection of experts Representing every policy being considered in groups lined up to report to Obama.

Someone on the Right said it was ridiculous the number of Czars Obama had on staff – That’s what a good manager does.

Bush a diplomat, negotiator, tactician? Wait, I’m trying to get a visual! Nope can’t do it. Only thing I can visualize is when Bush snubbed Ahmadinejad in the halls of the United Nation like a freaking High School Valley Girl.

Go Bill. I need to be brief, now. but I had to comment, so I’ll just refer to a quote by one of my favorite authors —

“You can wipe out your opponents. But if you do it unjustly you become eligible for being wiped out yourself.” –Ernest Hemingway —

    so much for being weak.

    Have a nice evening all.

I heard he offered to trade Monica.

  4. Dahl says:

Right already starting – first one out of the pig pen is “United States is rewarding bad behavior” Sigh

  5. pj says:

    Right. Kinda explains Bush’s 2nd term doesn’t it? :)

  6. Dahl says:

Yup! 2nd one I’ve got is “they had no business being over there in the first place and it was Al Gore’s Problem”

Gaud, do these people have any heart at all?

  7. Randi says:

    @tommy- you actually made a “funny”,good one.
but bravo for Clinton for showing them how to do it. And not in a million years could I imagine Bush going over there.

it began almost immediately, the “negotiating with terrorists” bs. John Bolton has shown himself to be especially…oh, there is just no polite way of saying anything regarding him and his statements. I just love how these neocons and hawks want to bomb and invade the entire world. and scant few of them have ever worn a uniform, unless it was a prep school uniform. heck if shrubbie were still in office, by now we’d have invaded the Netherlands or Jamacia by now, just to show the world how tough we are.
