Harry Reid Is Hurting Health Care Reform

Senate Lost - http://mariopiperni.com/

.

The more I watch the Senate screwing around with the health care issue, the more convinced I get that Senate Majority Leader (I use the term ‘leader’ lightly) Harry Reid needs to get the hell out of there. He is screwing this thing up big time.

Daily Kos

Bill Frist never had 60 votes. Bill Frist never cared. Republicans ran the Senate as if they owned the place, even when enjoying razor-thin majorities.

Yet when Democrats took the chamber, the first thing Harry Reid did was complain that he couldn’t do anything because he didn’t have 60 votes.

Then voters delivered 59 votes. And Harry Reid whined that he still couldn’t do anything. In fact, nothing would ever get accomplished unless they had 60, and to do that, they had to bring turncoat Joe Lieberman back into the fold, even though he had spent the previous year making common cause with John McCain and Sarah Palin.

Reid is selling his soul in hope of getting bipartisan approval for a H/C bill…any bill. Why? He either believes in true health care reform or he doesn’t. Time has run out for trying to play nice with Republicans who have no interest in seeing health care reform materialize.  Reid’s bigger concern should be getting conservative Democrats on board and therein lies the problem. To do so takes leadership and conviction, two traits which Reid has convincingly demonstrated he lacks.

Harry Reid’s office came out with a statement which read in part,

Senator Reid is focused on crafting a health care bill that will overcome a Republican filibuster.

Kos…

Republican filibuster? Democrats have 60 votes. There is no Republican filibuster, just a Democratic one. The problem is Reid’s inability to keep his caucus together. His office can’t even be honest about Reid’s leadership failures. Fucking liars.

I’ll take a Chuck Schumer-run Senate with 57 Democrats (bye bye Reid, Lieberman, and Lincoln) than a Harry Reid-run one with 75 Democrats.

I have a message for Harry Reid~DO YOUR JOB~I have bigger balls and I am a woman! How did you ever get this post anyway?…You and Joe Liebermann combined have less testosterone than myself…and AGAIN I Emphasize I am a WOMAN! Grrrrrrrr….Public Option is the only acceptable option!

My younger brother Jeff is the shame of the Degan family. He not only lives in France, he actually likes it there. He has a French wife and two gorgeous little French daughters. Honestly I think the guy is a closet commie. Back in August, in a letter to his fellow countrymen and women regarding health care – or “Hell Care” as he called it (What a card!) – he ended it by saying:

“In short, in the US, you pay more, get less, and die younger than we do in Europe. What part of that don’t you understand?”

Well, hey there! That’s a danged good question! What part of that don’t we understand? Why is it that so many of us have to be dragged, kicking and screaming like half-witted little preschoolers, into the brave new world of change? What the hell is the matter with us anyway? How can it be that such a huge number of Americans cheerfully join movements of mass stupidity and salivate on cue to the sound of Dr. Glenn “Pavlov” Beck’s bell? It kind of makes you wonder, huh?

It’s the Blue Dogs that are being haunted by the masses who listen to idiotic drivel on staying as we are and not embrace change. We may not like France but they have proven to be the best providers of health care to their people as a social democratic regime. Businesses and democracy prosper and we fear what exactly? We fear that the insurance companies will not make profit and get rid of those corporate airplanes with golden utensils? Let’s get real. Not only the rich have the right to live longer. In health, a human life is priceless.

As a great man once said, “You can lead, you can follow or you can get out of the way.” So, listen to the man, Reid and get out of the way. I loves me some Alan Grayson!

  5. Tennessean says:

This trepidation on the part of Democratic leaders should give reasonably intelligent people pause to consider.

Why do you think they don’t act independently, forge ahead and force this on a large group of people that don’t want it?

Could it be simply because when it blows up in their face, they want to be able to diffuse blame?

As cash strapped as we are now, why is the Obama Administration sending seniors a $250.00 supplemental cost of living increase payment for S.S. even though there was no increase in the cost of living this year?

Are you guys blind to an overt bribe simply because it comes from Obama and the Democrats??

  6. janine says:

    @tennessean

you think $250 is a bribe? not much of one

  7. Tennessean says:

janine, you think not?? You have any loved ones living on $600 or $700 a month S.S. payments? I do and believe me, they would view a free $250 as significant.

The Democrats are afraid of losing the Senior support. Obvious to everyone except the blindly biased.

  8. Anomaly100 says:

@Tennessean: So, President Obama is sending extra bucks to senior citizens and it’s all because of our evil liberal agenda? Yeah, we’re gonna force your silly ass to sign PETITIONS!!

  9. Tennesseean says:

anomaly, okay. With his Health Care Initiative hanging in the balance and Seniors worried about the negative implications to medicare and medicaid, why do YOU think they are ponying up $250 for SS recipients?

A note: Don’t be stupid. While it fits you perfectly, it isn’t becoming. ;-)

  10. Anomaly100 says:

@tennessean: How many times have you used the word “stupid” today? This President has raised the amount of food stamps for the ones your party frowns upon. This was before the health care issue that your party lied about to the seniors that you feign sympathy for. If your party gave a damn about seniors they wouldn’t have treated them like misinformed imbeciles. You lack grace & civility in your condesending manner toward others. Your party used seniors. If the Repubs had even a morsel of respect for them, they wouldn’t have made those outrageous lies about “killing grandpa”. I don’t fall for that crap. I am not a member of your crumbling party that is only a shadow of what it was. I thank God for that. I wouldn’t want to look, “stupid”.
