A Republican who thought he was a Democrat but now realizes he was a Republican all the while makes it official. Alabama Congressman Parker Griffith switches from dems to reps.
“As most of you know, I was elected by the people of north Alabama as an independent conservative Congressman,” he said in a press conference.
“I have become increasingly concerned that the bills and policies pushed by the current Democratic leadership are not good for north Alabama or our nation and, more importantly, they do not represent my values and convictions,” he said.
Griffith described himself as “pro-business, pro-life and pro-Second Amendment.”
“I am announcing today that I am joining the Republican conference immediately,” he said, saying the GOP is more in line with his beliefs.
So what do conservatives think?
RedState:
Being a Republican should be about more than just the letter next to a person’s name. We can improve that seat.
Club For Growth:
Griffith’s voting record is far from conservative, too. Granted, he voted against the Big 4 – Obama’s first budget, the Stimulus, Cap and Trade, and ObamaCare. However, his vote on the budget is slightly deceptive since he originally voted for 9 of the 12 spending bills that make up the budget. And he voted against all the Stimulus amendments that would reduce its size.
But just a quick perusal of 2009 shows that he voted YES on the 2009 pork-filled Omnibus; YES on Cash for Clunkers, NO on waiving the harmful Davis-Bacon provision, and had a pathetic 0% score on the 2009 RePORK Card.
This party switch signals Griffith’s nervousness, but it doesn’t signal that his incumbency is safe.
Good luck with Griffith passing the Conservative Purity Test. As for Democrats, it’s one less blue dog to be concerned with.

Democratic Florida Congressman Alan Grayson on the right’s mock anger at President Obama’s bowing to the Emperor of Japan.
“I remember Bush Jr. kissing Prince Abdullah on the cheek and then holding his hand for an extended period of time. Maybe if he had let him get to second base then gas would only be a dollar a gallon.”
This is after he basically told Dick Cheney to STFU. Good stuff. Democrats needed a non-politically correct player on their team. Grayson fills the roll nicely.

I love what Howard Dean says here.
Former DNC Chair Howard Dean called on Sen. Joseph Lieberman (I-Conn) to resign as chair of Senate Homeland Security Committee if he can’t bring himself to oppose a Republican filibuster of health care reform legislation.
…Dean stressed that he had no problem with Lieberman opposing the bill on its philosophical merits, or lack thereof. But he insisted that it was irresponsible and unprincipled to not allow the legislation to come to an up-or-down vote.
“I think that [Lieberman] is a very complicated guy,” said Dean. “He does [confuse me] because he says he’s a principled guy but there’s nothing principled about holding up a bill… If he was a principled guy he’d resign his chairmanship.”
“If you are with a caucus you don’t owe the leader any vote on any substance,” Dean added. “I have no problem with him voting against the public option… You owe it to Harry Reid to allow him to run the Senate. And if you’re not willing to do that the proper thing to do is to step aside.”
How can anyone logically argue against Dean’s statement here? Lieberman is free to believe whatever the hell he wants and to vote accordingly, but to hold up an actual vote on the issue (as Reps are planning on doing) is the stuff of dirty, irresponsible politics.
The only thing I’d change from what Dean said would be to not wait for Lieberman to resign his chairmanship. I’d take it away from him immediately.

Democrat Rep. Alan Grayson has made quite an impression in the last couple of weeks. Since his rousing speech in the House, Grayson has stirred up a lot of emotion, both positive and negative. The line that most inflamed Republicans was Grayson’s claim that the GOP’s approach to health care was, “Don’t get sick, and if you do get sick, die quickly.”
His website, CongressmanWithGuts, has raised over $500,000 in three weeks which had his foes starting up their own site, MyCongressmanIsNuts. They’ve raised an amazing $3700 “to show Grayson and Pelosi that an oppressive, overreaching government has not and never will be what makes America great.”
To all of the criticism, Grayson says…
“They call me nuts, they call me stupid, they call me ugly – they might be right about ugly – but that’s not what’s important.”
There.
