The Issue: Vote on a bill that would provide $7.4 billion to cover health care costs for responders who were affected and sickened by the 9/11 attacks.
Scenario: Both parties agreed that the bill was a worthy one. Dems, concerned that Republicans would attempt to append non-related partisan amendments to the bill, suspended the rules and went straight to the vote.
Result:
- The bill, requiring a two-thirds majority, was defeated by 159 United States Representatives who voted against it.
- Republicans argued that they voted ‘NO’ on the bill on grounds that while agreeing with the contents of the bill, they opposed the procedure that did not allow them to offer amendments.
- Responders involved in the rescue and actions of 9/11 are now forced to battle health insurance companies in the courts.
New York Democrat Anthony Weiner reacts.

I found the Youtube link and posted this on Facebook. Then I added a comment to credit you with bringing this to my attention on your blog. When I tried to use the short URL link from your tweet, Facebook popped up a message that this had been reported as “offensive content”. So I used the full URL with no problem. I also mentioned in my comment that the only ones who might find the link offensive were the Republicans in congress because it calls out their hypocrisy.
Anthony Weiner is my hero. The GOP has become the most shameful party in the in history of the country, putting their own lust for power above the needs of the citizenry. It is disgusting they did this at the expense of the 9/11 responders.
Many who may have voted for this bill are undoubtedly being extorted by their party leaders who are withholding additional campaign funds from their leadership PACs.
This practice was started by Newt and it is how they keep their members towing the party line. They also withhold chairmanships for the same reason.
Recommend everyone read “Money in the House” by Marian Currinder for some excellent insight as to why our politics are where they are.
So the Repubs voted no on a bill they agree with because they don’t like the procedure. Brings to mind two responses. One — pot/kettle and two — they are still employing schoolyard bully tactics
Awesome video, glad that someone stood up to the party of “No!”
I think I <3 Representative Weiner.
