It’s clear enough that no matter what the President does or does not do, the right will never be satisfied. Here’s a snippet of Erick Erickson’s post speech analysis. He first quotes Obama.
“Because of the steps we took, there are about two million Americans working right now who would otherwise be unemployed. 200,000 work in construction and clean energy. 300,000 are teachers and other education workers. Tens of thousands are cops, firefighters, correctional officers, and first responders. And we are on track to add another one and a half million jobs to this total by the end of the year.”
And what is wrong with any of that? It’s good news, right? Apparently not. Erickson explains.
Review the list. Every job listed is either a government job or a job so connected to government that it would not exist but for government. The clean energy industry? It would not exist, but for government subsidy. Construction? He is talking about roads and other infrastructure — jobs that will go away once the project is done and the whole way through is dependent on the government.
All of these are government jobs.
What? Two million jobs would not have been there if not for the stimulus package and this hack thinks it’s inadequate because, in part, construction jobs “will go away once the project is done.”
Sheesh. I imagine that it is irrelevant to this wingnut that the construction worker is now able to pay off his mortgage and credit cards, buy food and goods and generally provide for his or her family. All this while helping to rebuild a crumbling infrastructure.
Seriously, what is the point of trying to discuss anything with these dickheads? It’s all so futile. This brand of conservatism is a mental disorder. I’m convinced.

I’m in my happy place right now and intend to stay there for awhile. No wingnuts, no idiots, just a damn good speech that was more than just a speech.
Anyone wonder why during Gov. McDonnell’s rebuttal speech (which might as well have been provided by Rick Berman), everyone’s applause started and ended at the exact same time? Was there a cue card or something? A coach? It was very odd.
And wanna be head dickhead Romney on this morning’s news circuit said the 200,000 job creation number was a fallacy…
Great speech Obama gave, very strong, happy he called out everyone, including the Dems….
I kept noticing the surly Repub demeanor during the speech, could they be any more grade school bullyish. Clearly nothing said last night is going to sway the Repubs to set down their bully sticks, pack up their suitcase full of lies and come to the table. They are bent only on destruction
First all, I didn’t watch the speech so I can’t comment on it. I don’t believe anything said my either party is sincere so why bother.
I define a job as an occupation with potential long term benefits. The projects created by the stimulas bill don’t qualify. The money used to create them was taken out of the private sector, away from companies that could invested it to create real jobs.
@Tommy Pane, you can keep telling yourself that the private sector would have created all kinds of jobs if it weren’t for those pesky taxes they have to pay – if it makes you feel better.
Moneys for jobs didn’t come out from the private sector but borrowed in the same way as TARP money. Banks have started to repay the loans and we are reinvesting that money in other things. If the champion to create new jobs is private enterprise and with the economy stabilizing,why is it that private enterprise hasn’t stepped up to create permanent jobs? Since the private sector won’t do its job,we need government to stimulate the economy until the private sector starts doing what it is suppose to do.
Any money that the government spends comes out of the private sector. Only when both neocons and liberals agree with fiscal conservatives and libetarians on this simple, fundemental fact, will agreement on solutions begin to happen.
The private sector is unwilling to invest in new jobs (betting that consumers will have more money available to buy their products) because they’re not sure what the government has planned. The private sector will begin to expand the job base when the government STOPS trying to stimulate the economy.
This idiot obviously doesn’t know much about construction. What construction job doesn’t go away once the work is finished? That’s the nature of the business.
