Shirley Sherrod, the fired and subsequently vindicated Department of Agriculture employee, said today she will sue the conservative blogger who posted doctored video on the Internet last week that made her appear racist.
The posted video resulted in Sherrod being fired by the Obama administration, which was followed by public apologies from President Obama and Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack for dismissing her without learning the whole story. Even Fox News Host Bill O’Reilly apologized when it became apparent that the video he aired on his show was incomplete and that Sherrod was telling a story of personal growth, not bigotry.
But Andrew Breitbart, the blogger who posted the spliced video of Sherrod in the first place, has remained unapologetic, despite the fact that the full video features Sherrod telling an NAACP meeting how she became a better person and overcame her biases.
My gut feeling tells me that this will lead to neither an apology nor a change in behavior from the Breitbarts of the right-wing blogosphere but I’m glad to see someone willing to say, “Enough!” and try to do something about it.

This has to be stopped. I don’t see it as a right/left situation, meaning I doubt that any of us would sanction this kind of editing no matter who was doing it or for what side of an argument. We all know that it is WRONG. Breitebart is a vile man who cares only for himself and the power that he craves, no matter how he gets it. I would like to see breitbart used as a new term to discribe this kind of nefarious behavior and even more I would like to see a specific law by that name to cover anyone who intentionally does this kind of editing again.
I don’t see even a successful lawsuit doing much good in the long run. If she took Breitfart for everything he had, right wing donors would just set him back up in business again. It amuses me to think about what a bugaboo George Soros is for the right, when they’ve got money coming in from the Coors family, the Bradley Foundation, the Koch brothers, Richard Scaife and a host of others. Surely any or all of them will step in with new seed money for more smears.

Great job Shirley. This guy must be stopped, he and others like him. Perhaps a successful lawsuit will provide a wee bit of a deterrent
