NFL – 1 : Rush Limbaugh – 0

Words http://mariopiperni.com/

.

This was inevitable.

Conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh has been dropped from a group seeking to buy the St. Louis Rams. Limbaugh was to be a limited partner in a bid led by St. Louis Blues chairman Dave Checketts, but Checketts said in a statement Wednesday that Limbaugh’s participation had complicated the effort. The group will move forward without him.

[...]

Limbaugh’s bid ran into opposition from within the image-conscious NFL on Tuesday when Colts owner Jim Irsay said he would vote against the radio personality. Commissioner Roger Goodell said the commentator’s “divisive” comments would not be tolerated from any NFL insider.

NFL players didn’t want Limbaugh as an owner. Owners didn’t want Limbaugh involved.  So who does Limbaugh blame for the controversy?

“This is not about the NFL, it’s not about the St. Louis Rams, it’s not about me,” Limbaugh said. “This is about the ongoing effort by the left in this country, wherever you find them, in the media, the Democrat Party, or wherever, to destroy conservatism, to prevent the mainstreaming of anyone who is prominent as a conservative.

“Therefore, this is about the future of the United States of America and what kind of country we’re going to have.”

Of course, what Limbaugh is really saying is that it’s all about him and he takes no responsibility for his racist-laced comments of the last many years.  But then, racists will seldom admit to being racist. For Limbaugh, it’s all the fault of the media. It’s all the fault of liberals.

Yawn.

Only an egotist of the proportions of a Limbaugh would dare say that his rejection by the NFL is really about the future of the United States.  The only truth in that statement comes with the knowledge that any day that Limbaugh fails is a good day for the United States of America.

I’ve been thinking…one can’t really blame Limbaugh for being the bombastic self-centered pile of waste that he is. He is being who he is and making a fortune off it. As long as he remains controversial, the money will keep on flowing in. The really problem with Limbaugh and Beck and Hannity and Malkin and the rest of these right-wing media types is the people who tune in. These sad and pathetic intellectually-challenged fools who believe the drivel they hear from these guys is what drives in the money. And they’re the ones you’ll find at teaparty rallies and townhall meetings screaming nonsense and carrying signs proclaiming “I am an idiot” for the entire country to see.

Unfortunately, there is no way to fix any of this ’cause the sad truth is…stupid can’t be fixed.

  1. Brooke says:

Venn diagram: Circle representing batshit crazy. Circle representing extra problems the NFL wants that don’t score touchdowns. Gee, no intersection.

Not a mathematician, Limbaugh, is he?

  2. Tennessean says:

Limbaugh is correct. You don’t see this as ideological ostracism? Are you going to try and convince anyone that out of all those 70 to 80 year old White, Caucasian owners and partners in NFL Ownership there exists not one Bigot or Racist?

Come on Mario. Step up to the plate. You can agree with it. You can support it. But call it for what it is. Limbaugh is being discriminated against because of his Politics.

And if you approve of that, then what precedent do you advocate?

  3. Brooke says:

Tennessean, I really think he’s being discriminated against because of his notoriety and loud mouth. Which isn’t really an ideological position.

  4. TonyM says:

Isn’t it zany how people like Limbaugh think that their words should have no consequences except when they favor him. He saying that a 4 time all-pro quarterback got credit because he was black might have had something to do with it, Rush. It only makes sense that the NFL which has a history of racial tension would not want a divisive person like Limbaugh involved.

  5. Tennessean says:

I’m sitting here laughing to myself and wondering what you guys would be saying if the objection was, “because of your out spoken opposition to the war.” or “because of your out spoken position in favor of gay rights” or “because of your out spoken opposition to Health Care Reform”.

    Hypocrits.

Let’s see, the media is interested in seeing a Quarterback of color succeed so they go soft on him. The media is invested in seeing the first African American elected President so they go soft on him. And you guys are saying this, while maybe not pretty, is not accurate??

    Here’s a good article:

    http://www.politicsdaily.com/2009/10/14/rush-limbaugh-al-sharpton-jesse-jackson-and-the-rams-should-t/25

And here is a good statement:

“But, still and all, at the end of the day, you are an American citizen, you work, you pay taxes, you earn your paycheck, you have got an opportunity to purchase an NFL team. To say that he doesn’t have a right to own a team because of those remarks, to me, I think is going a bit too far, especially when players themselves have done very, very little to exhibit any kind of political conscience whatsoever up to this point.”

  6. Anomaly100 says:

The Windbag is blaming every liberal & Democrat out there. He has never, not once, take responsiblity for any of his outrageously racist statements. His partners in this backed out & I’m glad. He has made publicly racist statements & for that, he should never be able to own a group of athletes, most of which are black men. The thought makes me sick. Of course, he’ll say, it’s President Obama’s fault, or something about our liberal agenda. Idiot.

  7. Steve says:

Stupid can’t be fixed, but ignorance is a choice.

  8. Hook'em says:

Rush has been Swiftboated and Dixie Chicked! Isn’t irony sweet?
Like all bullies, he can dish it out, but can’t take it!

  9. Lou Natick says:

Tennessean. Brooke’s response was exactly correct. It’s not because of Limbaugh’s politics. It’s because of his irresponsible, lying, hate-provoking big mouth. Also, no one is denying him the right to own a team. He’s being denied THIS chance, and not by the government. He got tossed by a group of white, republican, middle-age wealthy men. His peers so to speak.
All you and Rush can do however is blame the “left wing” media. Jeez, he should take some responsibility for his actions for a change.

  10. mike stone says:

All Rush wants to do is shower with the Ram players.

  11. Limpdick says:

So, what shall I name my new team? The Lawn Jockeys? The Oxy Contins? The Pompous Pricks? The Anal Cysts? The Dominican Adolescents? The Tiny Tennesseans???

  12. Anomaly100 says:

@Limpdick: I kinda like The Oxy Contins. Well, they’re all good ones, but that one speaks volumes.
